Maryland Mom Who Contracted COVID-19 Right Before Due Date Dies After Giving Birth to Son She Never Met

A Maryland mother-of-four who contracted coronavirus as she was nearing the end of her pregnancy has died just three weeks after giving birth to a baby boy she never even got to meet.

43-year-old Wogene Debele, an Ethiopian immigrant, was nine months pregnant with her fourth child when she tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to the hospital.

Doctors were able to successfully deliver Debele’s baby boy three weeks ago, but she had to be separated from him immediately due to the virus.

She lost her battle with the novel coronavirus Tuesday (Apr. 21) before ever getting the chance to hold her newborn baby, who was named Levi.

Doctors have said that most pregnant women don’t appear to be at higher risk from the virus, and many show no symptoms at all, however, that was tragically not the case for Debele.

Mayor Kate Stewart of Takoma Park, Maryland, where Debele was a prominent member of the Ethiopian community, began the city’s virtual council meeting Wednesday (Apr. 22) with a moment of silence for the mother and her family.

“This evening, I’d like to start us off with a moment of silence,” she said while displaying a photo of Debele with her husband and three older children.

“Over the last few weeks, talking to family and friends, and especially today, one of the things that I learned is that her name means ‘my community, my people.’

“And you could tell by her smile in this picture. She meant so much to our community, our broader city… among the Ethiopian community in our city, and in her family. She meant a great deal and it is a tragic loss for all of us right now.”

Mayor Stewart’s daughter and Debele’s 17-year-old daughter attend the same high school. Stewart said she’d spoken with Debele’s daughter, who thanked everyone for their support.

“We will get through this health crisis—it will come to an end,” Stewart said. “Right now, there’s a lot of uncertainty. And we need to also look at what happens when we get through this.

“We need to remember all the support and love we’re giving now. Because this family is going to need us in the future. They’re going to need our support and our assistance, like so many families in our community.”

Friends of Debele’s family have started a GoFundMe to support Debele’s husband and children, and in less than 24 hours, the page raised more than $130,000 for the grieving family from more than 2,000 donors.

“Wogene was kind, joyful, and a source of strength to her family and to all who knew her,” the page reads.

“She leaves behind her husband Yilma Asfaw Tadesse, and her beloved children Mihret (17 years old), Naod (10 years old), Asher (4 years old), and the newborn Levi, whom she did not even have the chance to see.

“Wogene’s family needs our support now more than ever. Your generous donations will help her husband in his role as a single parent.”

Mayor Stewart remarked at how quickly the donations started to pour in.

“The thing that is really amazing, is if you look at the number of people who have donated,” she said.

“So there are donations of $5, $10, upwards of a few hundred dollars. It just shows that we need to be in this together and support each other.”

As of Friday, the GoFundMe has so far raised nearly $200K of its $250K goal.

Tebabu Assefa says he first met Wogene Debele last June when he invited her 17-year-old daughter to speak at an immigration solidarity rally.

“She was delighted,” he said of Debele. “And she was very grateful. And every time I ran into Wogene after that, she always gave me a profound smile.”

Assefa also talked about how the coronavirus pandemic will affect the way in which Debele’s family grieves.

“In the Ethiopian culture, people mourn for three, four, five weeks. And friends and family from near and far would come and live with you for several weeks and cook and pray and mourn with you. And they’ll be denied that,” he said. “That in itself is another issue. They can’t do that right now.”

Assefa said he’s now working with the City of Takoma Park to plan a virtual candlelight vigil for Debele’s family.

“To show them the love and support that they need,” he said. “I mean, on so many levels this thing is heartbreaking.”

Trump Says He Was Being “Sarcastic” About Injecting People With Disinfectant to Cure Coronavirus & Wanted to “See What Would Happen”

After facing backlash for insanely suggesting that scientists should look into injecting actual human beings with disinfectant as a possible treatment for COVID-19, President Donald Trump now says that he was being “sarcastic” and wanted to “see what would happen.”

During a live briefing Thursday (Apr. 23) on the coronavirus, Trump proposed using “powerful” UV rays and injections of cleaning agents as possible treatments for COVID-19 patients.

PREVIOUSLY: President Trump Suggests Using Bleach Injections & “Powerful” UV Rays to Cure Coronavirus Patients

He made the bizarre comments after Bill Bryan, the Science Director for the Dept. of Homeland Security, gave a presentation about how recent tests have shown that increased levels of sunlight, ultraviolet (UV) rays, and even humidity caused the coronavirus to die off quickly, potentially reducing its potency in the upcoming summer months.

“Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light? And I think you said, that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it,” Trump said before adding: “And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting.”

He continued: “And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that? By injection inside or almost a cleaning. As you see it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that … You’re going to have to use medical doctors. But it sounds interesting to me.”

But on Friday (Apr. 24), Trump said he was just joking … on live television … in front of the world … during a global pandemic.

“I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen,” the President said early Friday afternoon, just as the coronavirus death toll in the U.S. surpassed 50,000.

Trump’s explanation drew skepticism among those who watched the briefing, including Fox News anchor Bret Baier.

“It didn’t seem like it was coming off as sarcastic when he was talking and turning to Dr. Birx on the side,” Baier said on-air Friday after Trump’s walk-back was reported.

Trump’s batshit crazy comments during the briefing were enough to warrant responses from doctors and the makers of Clorox and Lysol, who all were forced to warn people not to consume bleach or disinfectants as suggested by the President.

“Due to recent speculation and social media activity, RB (the makers of Lysol and Dettol) has been asked whether internal administration of disinfectants may be appropriate for investigation or use as a treatment for coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2),”

As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route),” Reckitt Benckiser, the company that makes Lysol and Dettol, said in a statement.

“As with all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Please read the label and safety information.”

A Clorox spokesperson said in a statement: “Bleach and other disinfectants are not suitable for consumption or injection under any circumstances. People should always read the label for proper usage instructions.”

The statement from Clorox added that disinfecting surfaces with bleach and other disinfecting products is one of the ways to help stop the spread of COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Andy Cohen Slams “Antiquated & Discriminatory” FDA Rules Preventing Gay Men From Donating Blood to Help COVID-19 Patients

Bravo’s Andy Cohen is speaking out about the “antiquated and discriminatory” rules from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that prevent him and other gay men from donating blood to help patients suffering from coronavirus.

Testing is currently underway to determine if antibodies in the plasma of COVID-19 survivors can be used to treat patients currently battling the disease.

But Cohen, who recently recovered from the novel coronavirus after contracting it last month, says there’s a huge problem with the current rules for donating.

“I’ve got a bit of a rant so please indulge me,” Cohen said Thursday night (Apr. 24) as he was wrapping an episode of Watch What Happens Live.

“After recovering from the coronavirus, I wanted to see if there was something that I could do to help people who were infected. I signed up for a program for COVID-19 survivors where you could donate plasma, which is rich in antibodies, to those still battling the virus.

“I was told that due to antiquated and discriminatory guidelines by the FDA to prevent HIV, that I am ineligible to donate blood because I’m a gay man.”

To deal with the need for blood due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FDA recently eased up on their guidelines requiring gay and bisexual men to abstain from sex for a year before being eligible to donate blood to just 90 days.

The yearlong requirement was set back in 2015, and before that, men who had sex with men were banned from donating blood completely.

Cohen said the new rules are still too restrictive.

“Even the new relaxed rules require gay men to abstain from sex for three months, whether they’re in a monogamous relationship or not, before giving blood, though no such blanket restrictions exist for people of other sexual orientations,” Cohen pointed out.

He continued: “Here’s the thing: This virus is ravaging our planet and the FDA says there is an urgent need for plasma from survivors. All donated blood is screened for HIV and a rapid HIV test can be done in 20 minutes or less. So why the three-month rule?

“Why are members from my community being excluded from helping out when so many people are sick and dying? Maybe because we’re valuing stigma over science, I don’t know. My blood could save a life but instead it’s over here boiling.

“This pandemic has forced us to adapt in many ways. We’re quarantining, we’re social distancing, we’re wearing masks. Why can’t we adapt when it comes to this rule? … It’s crazy they said, ‘No, you can’t.’ Insane.

“It is bad enough that quarantine has us wondering what day it is, I’m sitting here wondering what year it is.”

Cohen’s sentiments echo those of GLAAD, which launched a formal petition back in March calling for an end to the ban following U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams’ urgent call for donations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The petition has so far received more than 23,500 signatures … just 1,500 shy of their goal of 25,000 signatures.

WATCH: Isaiah Wilson’s Mom Snatches His Girlfriend Up From His Lap on Live TV After He’s Drafted by the NFL

The 2020 NFL draft was broadcast remotely Thursday (Apr. 23).

While there were many heartwarming moments between prospects and their families, Isaiah Wilson’s mom apparently had a different agenda.

The offensive tackle from Georgia was the 29th overall pick and selected by the Tennessee Titans.

He was visibly emotional when ESPN went live to his Brooklyn home and his girlfriend attempted to console him … until Mama Wilson entered the frame.

In a viral moment, Mama Wilson is seen forcibly removing the girlfriend from her son’s lap and out of the way.

Though only the ESPN commentators and music were audible during the moment, we can only imagine what the mom was saying.

Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott’s Older Brother Jace Died Suddenly at 31 Years Old

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescot’s older brother, Jace Prescott, died suddenly on Thursday (Apr. 24) at the age of 31.

The Cowboys announced the sad news Thursday evening just minutes after making their first-round selection in the NFL draft.

“It is with great sadness and support that we share the news of the passing of Jace Prescott today,” the Cowboys said in a statement. “The loss of Tad and Dak’s brother is devastating. At this incredibly difficult time, the Prescott family asks only for prayers and respect for their privacy.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones added in his own statement: “We are so saddened that Dak has lost his brother. We want him to help him get through this time. Whatever we can do to help him…

“When you’re young, and Dak is young, death is really hard to understand to think about or live with. I have a particular sensitivity to players when they have a tragedy.”

Dak and his brother Jace were very close and even filmed a national Campbell’s Chunky Soup commercial in 2019.

Dak said at the time that Jace and his other older brother Tad meant the world to him, especially after tragically losing his mom to colon cancer in 2013.

“My brothers have always been champions,” Dak said, per TMZ. “Them along with my mom … So now, not having my mom and just having them two, they mean even more.”

Dak added: “Family is everything. It’s what keeps me grounded when everything else is changing around me I know that’s one thing that’s always consistent and certain. I’m thankful for them.”

Jace, who was the middle of three brothers between Dak and Tad, played offensive line for Northwestern State in Louisiana between 2008 and 2010, starting in 11 games in his last season.

The Prescott brothers also have a sister, Natalie Prescott-Smith and an older, half-brother, Elliott Prescott, from their father’s previous marriage.

A cause of death for Jace was not given.

Mugshot Madness: 30 Pedophiles Trying to Meet Up With Kids for Sex Arrested in Operation “COVID Crackdown”

Police in Virginia said they arrested 30 pedophiles earlier this month who were seeking to meet up with children for sex as part of Operation “COVID Crackdown.”

The online sting operation was created by authorities to catch predators red-handed as they preyed on kids forced to spend more time online and do schoolwork on the internet amid the coronavirus pandemic, hence the name “COVID Crackdown.”

Police claim each offender used online platforms to initiate sexually explicit conversations in an attempt to solicit sex from a child, not realizing that the “child” they were talking to was actually a police officer posing as one.

The pedophiles would then unwittingly arrange to meet up with the officers—who they thought were young children—and they would arrive at the agreed-upon location only to find a team of detectives instead, waiting to take them into custody.

The men, who were all from Fairfax County and ranged in age from 20 to 74, were charged with a combined 68 felonies. The arrests happened throughout the month of April.

Police said school closures and distance learning have increased children’s online presence, which now places them at an even higher risk of exploitation than usual.

“Our detectives have remained vigilant and they recognized the increased threat posed by online predators in recent weeks,” said Major Ed O’Carroll, Bureau Commander with Major Crimes.

“I commend their ability to adapt during this unprecedented public health pandemic and to do so in the interest of protecting our children and bringing justice to those who commit these repugnant crimes.”

O’Carroll advised parents to monitor their children’s online activities and make use of parental control and security settings to stop them from using sites and platforms that aren’t appropriate for their age.

He said parents should also encourage their kids to report people they find engaging in inappropriate conversations or trying to talk them into sending sexually explicit photos and videos of themselves.

People with information regarding other cases involving the exploitation of children or human trafficking have been asked to contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, Option 6.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477) or by text: Type “FCCS” plus the tip to 847411.

If an anonymous tipster’s information leads to an arrest, they could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

President Trump Suggests Using Bleach Injections & “Powerful” UV Rays to Cure Coronavirus Patients

Donald Trump has some very “interesting” ideas about possible treatments for COVID-19 patients.

During a live briefing today on the coronavirus, Trump, who often brags about his gut instincts regarding medical and scientific issues, proposed using ultraviolet rays and injections of cleaning agents into patients suffering from the disease.

Trump made the absurd remark after Bill Bryan, the Science Director for the Dept. of Homeland Security, gave a presentation about how recent tests have shown that increased levels of sunlight, ultraviolet (UV) rays, and even humidity caused the coronavirus to die off quickly, potentially reducing its potency in the upcoming summer months.

“The virus dies quickest in sunlight,” Bryan said, adding that it can also be killed with bleach and isopropyl alcohol instantly or within minutes.

At that point, a lightbulb went off in Trump’s head, and he asked Bryan, out loud, in front of a room full of people (and also the world, mind you): “Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light? And I think you said, that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it.”

Trump added: “And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting.”

He then presented another possible treatment.

“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that? By injection inside or almost a cleaning. As you see it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that … You’re going to have to use medical doctors. But it sounds interesting to me.”

Though Trump didn’t specify the “disinfectant” he would consider using to kill coronavirus, the stuff that’s commonly used to do the job, bleach and isopropyl alcohol, are both toxic to the human body when ingested.

And as for the UV rays, has he ever heard of skin cancer? Y’alls president done last his damn mind.

After Trump’s statements, Bryan told reporters that federal laboratories are not considering such ridiculous treatment options. He also made it a point to note that heat and humidity alone wouldn’t kill the virus and said people should continue to social distance.

When Bryan was asked to clarify, he said that’s not the kind of work he does in his lab, before Trump jumped in and added: “Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn’t work.”

At one point Trump turned to task force coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx and said to her: “I would like you to speak to the medical doctors to see if there’s any way that you can apply light and heat to cure. You know, if you could … Maybe you can, maybe you can’t”

“I’m not a doctor,” he added. “But I’m like a person that has a good, you know what…” he said as he pointed to his head.

Trump also went off on Washington Post’s White House Bureau Chief Philip Rucker when Rucker said that people are looking at these briefings for guidance, not “rumors.”

“Respectfully sir, you’re the President and people tuning in to these briefings want to get information and guidance, and want to know what to do,” Rucker told him. “They’re not looking for rumors.”

“Hey Phil, I’m the President and you’re fake news,” Trump responded. “And you know what else I’ll say to you? I’ll say very nicely, I know you well. Because I know the guy, I see what he writes. He’s a total faker.”

He said of Bill Bryan: “I’m just here to present talent. I’m here to present ideas because we want ideas to get rid of this thing. And if heat is good, and if sunlight is good, that’s a great thing as far as I’m concerned.”

Trump also scoffed at a question about whether it could be a potential health risk if people were to take this information and decide to no longer follow social distancing guidelines.

“Here we go. The new headline is Trump asks people to go outside … that’s dangerous,” the president fumed. “I hope people enjoy the sun and if it has an impact, that’s great.”

Atlanta Teen Shot & Killed by Stepfather for Not Following Shelter-in-Place Guidelines

A major concern of the stay-at-home orders implemented across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic is the stress it would put on families locked in the house together.

Those fears became a reality for one Atlanta family when the stepfather shot and killed his 16-year-old stepson.

42-year-old Bernie Hargrove was booked into the Fulton County jail on charges of felony murder after shooting his stepson De’onte Roberts multiple times, according to reports.

The victim’s mother told police that the shooting took place when an altercation between the two escalated after Roberts refused to follow his stepdad’s request for him to stay at home per statewide orders.

“There had been a dispute earlier in the day when the 16-year-old refused his parents’ orders to remain in the home and comply with recent shelter in place directives,” a police statement said.

“Later, the victim returned to the home and kicked in the door to the house where a physical fight began between the suspect and the victim. During that altercation, the victim was shot.”

Roberts was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for multiple gunshots to the chest. He was later pronounced dead.

As the quarantine recommendations continue, many people are finding it difficult to maintain a stress-free living environment, but Atlanta Police are asking for everyone to remain calm.

“Tensions get high because you’re in the same space, day in and day out,” Atlanta Police Captain D’’Andrea Price said. “However, when the pressure gets high, you just have to take a deep breath and you have to separate.”

Detroit Man With Coronavirus Symptoms Dies After Being Turned Away From 3 Different Hospitals

A Detroit-area man who was exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 passed away on a recliner in his home after being turned away by three different local hospitals while looking for treatment, according to reports.

56-year-old Gary Fowler was experiencing symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing, and a fever, so he tried to get tested for the virus that has caused a worldwide pandemic.

Keith Gambrell, Fowler’s stepson, said the man was turned down by emergency room personnel at Beaumont, Detroit Receiving, and Henry Ford hospitals.

“He was begging for his life, but no one would help him at all. Like they just kept sending him away,” Gambrell told reporters.

The loss was especially traumatic for the family, because Gary Fowler’s death came just six hours after his father, 76-year-old David Fowler, also died from COVID-19 related symptoms.

With so many people in the family being exposed to the virus, Gambrell said that he was worried for the safety of other members of his family, and he even reached out to his cousin who is State Representative Karen Whitsett, he told reporters.

Whitsett was able to secure testing for members of the family, and it was revealed that Gambrell’s two brothers tested positive, and his mother is currently in the hospital with complications from COVID-19 and pneumonia.

When asked for his thoughts on why Fowler was turned away by emergency rooms, Gambrell told CBS This Morning that he believed it was race-related.

“I honestly believe it was because my father was black. They didn’t honestly take his symptoms serious enough to give him a test,” he told the news organization.

The virus has been tougher for minority communities in many parts of the country.

Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, the chief medical executive for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, said in a Facebook Live interview that about 33% of COVID-19 cases and 40% of the deaths in Michigan are from African Americans.

Detroit Receiving Hospital said they have no records of Fowler at their hospital, but Henry Ford Hospital did release a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fowler’s and all families devastated by the effects of COVID-19,” the statement said. “We’re not able to share details due to patient privacy, but we don’t take lightly any concerns of biased care given our dedication to putting patients first … no one is denied care.”

A$AP Rocky Said He’s the Reason Why Everybody Wears Air Force 1’s, As If Nelly Never Existed

A$AP Rocky and Nelly were both trending on Twitter Thursday morning (Apr. 23) after an old interview resurfaced in which the former took credit for making Nike Air Force 1’s popular.

Back in 2015, Rocky did an Oxford Union Q&A, and during the hour-long interview, the rapper claimed he’s the reason why everyone was wearing Air Force 1’s after 2011.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vSvDgQ_734

“Coming out with the Air Force 1 thing, man I lie to you not. You can ask my manager it was all premeditated. I said, listen, I’m gonna wear these wack sneakers: it was 2011,” Rocky said. “I said Imma wear these wack sneakers just to test the scene…

He added: “You name it, we brought it back. It was nostalgic to us because we’re hip-hoppers, and I wanted to purposely be able to identify when I did certain things. It was almost like I put a trademark out there. So when people started wearing Air Force 1’s again, I stopped wearing it, and I just said I did my job, and I was right all along. I haven’t worn Air Force 1s since 2013.

Twitter responded to A$AP’s rocky claim, saying that the Harlem rapper is most certainly not responsible for the popularity of Air Force 1’s, and it’s actually Nelly’s “Air Force Ones” song, released in 2002, that sparked the trend.

“The Clark Sisters” Star Raven Goodwin Gives Birth to Baby Girl

Congratulations are in order for actress Raven Goodwin, who just officially became a first-time mommy!

Goodwin, who is known for starring on Being Mary Jane and recently starred as Denise Clark Bradford in the Lifetime biopic The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, welcomed a baby girl—Riley’Rosa Bell Battle—on April 15th, however, she waited a full week to announce the news on social media.

“I’ve been a mommy for a week. Wow,” the 27-year-old actress wrote on Instagram on April 22nd.

“Her soul is sooo beautiful. She was born on a Wednesday as was I. She has a head full of hair & she is sooooo stunning. She loves music, the sound of her daddy’s voice, and her mamas touch.”

She continued: “My daughter you lack nothing, you were born WHOLE, I will make sure you always feel liberated by liberating myself. I’ll always be here … Thank you to the Staff at Northside & [Dr. Jackie from ‘Married to Medicine’] for getting her here safe and sound.”

Goodwin is engaged to finance executive Wiley Battle. The couple announced their engagement last November.

Back in March, she shared maternity photos, with some showing her fiancée cradling her baby bump at their baby shower.

Lifetime previously announced that their Clark Sisters biopic—which was executive produced by Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott—had 2.7 million viewers during its April 11th debut, making it the network’s highest-rated movie original since 2016.

A press release also stated that the biopic’s ratings made it “the strongest original movie on all of television for 2020 across key demos,” and the film was a top social trend during its initial airing.

Congrats all around to Raven Goodwin!

Rep. Maxine Waters Says Her Sister is Dying of Coronavirus

Rep. Maxine Waters, a California Democrat and chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, said that her sister is dying of coronavirus in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

“I’m going to take a moment to dedicate this legislation to my dear sister who is dying in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri right now, infected by the coronavirus,” Waters said Thursday (Apr. 23) on the House floor ahead of a vote on a $480 billion COVID-19 relief package.

Waters, who was one of multiple lawmakers seen wearing masks on the House floor, was speaking in support of the already passed Paycheck Protection Program and the pending Health Care Enhancement Act, which is expected to pass a House vote on Thursday.

President Donald Trump has publicly supported the bill, indicating that he will sign it when it reaches the White House.

The legislation will provide $370 billion in funding for small business loans as well as an additional $100 billion for hospitals and coronavirus testing.

Some of the funding for the business loans will be targeted to small businesses, particularly mom-and-pop and minority-owned businesses, after criticism that the first round of loans went to large, publicly-owned businesses and retail and restaurant chains.

“We need to do much more to help renters, homeowners, people experiencing homelessness and mom-and-pop landlords,” Waters said.

Rapper Fred the Godson Dead at 35 After 2-Week Battle With Coronavirus

Fred the Godson has died after battling coronavirus, reps for the rapper confirmed to Complex.

The New York rapper revealed he was in the hospital after testing positive for the disease and had been placed on a ventilator on April 6th.

“I’m in here with this Covid-19 sh**! Please keep me in y’all prayers!!! #GodIsGreat,” he wrote on Instagram with a ventilator attached to his face.

His wife said that doctors had told her he might not survive, but provided fans with an update days later saying that his condition was improving.

“Fred is currently in the ICU,” LeeAnn Jemmott told XXL. “He is Cov-19 positive on a ventilator. However, he is progressing! He went in having difficulty breathing on Monday evening (April 6). Tuesday morning (April 7), I received a call he was not going to make it because his lungs were not working.

“He was then put on a ventilator, and as of today (24 hours later), the doctors already weaned him down from 100 percent support to 40 percent support of ventilation. He is fighting and he is winning. He has no sign of infection. His heart is strong and working well. “Real Housewives of Potomac” Season 5 Premiere Pushed Back Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

Real Housewives of Potomac fans eagerly awaiting the fifth season set to premiere next month, will have to wait even longer.

According to People, Bravo execs have made the decision to postpone season five of RHOP until the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

RHOP was expected to premiere on May 5th, but Bravo has decided to push back the season because production of many of the network’s programming has been halted due to social distancing and stay-at-home orders.

In order to ensure Bravo has enough new shows to air during the summer months, Bravo has decided to save the popular series until then.

RHOP had a breakout season last year, making season five highly-anticipated.

Bravo dropped the explosive trailer earlier this month, which includes an epic fight between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard.

The postponed premiere date has not been announced.

On a somewhat positive note, The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast is scheduled to remotely film their reunion today (Apr. 23). The reunion will air in two parts in the coming weeks. A third reunion episode may be added, if needed.

Beyoncé Donates $6 Million to Provide Mental Health Services for Essential Workers Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Beyoncé is giving back during the coronavirus pandemic.

The singer announced via her official website Thursday morning (Apr. 23) that her BeyGOOD foundation has partnered with Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall charity to provide $6 million in funding to various organizations providing mental health services with help from UCLA.

According to Beyoncé’s site, they’re partnering with the National Alliance in Mental Illness (NAMI) to help organizations like United Memorial Medical Center, Bread of Life, and Mathew 25 provide wellness support to essential workers in cities like Houston, New York, Detroit and New Orleans.

“Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD recognizes the immense mental and personal health burdens being placed on essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads an official statement from Beyoncé.com.

“In our major cities, African-Americans comprise a disproportionate number of workers in these indispensable occupations, and they will need mental health support and personal wellness care, included testing and medical services, food supplies and food deliveries, both during and after the crisis.”

The novel coronavirus has disproportionately affected Black Americans, with most cases and deaths coming from cities with higher black populations, and during Global Citizen’s “One World: Together AT Home” special, Beyoncé addressed the virus’ impact on the Black community.

“Black Americans disproportionately belong to these essential parts of the workforce that do not have the luxury of working from home. African-American communities at large have been severely affected in this crisis,” she said. “Those with pre-existing conditions are at an even higher risk. This virus is killing black people at an alarmingly high rate here in America.”

Beyoncé also honored the “true heroes” who are “making the ultimate sacrifice to keep us all safe, fed, and healthy.”

She said in part: “We are one family, and we need you. We need your voices, your abilities, and your strength all over this world. I know it’s very hard, but please be patient, stay encouraged, keep the faith, stay positive, and continue to pray for our heroes.”

Beyonceé’s mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson, also recently revealed on Instagram that one of her close friends, Sheila Campbell Christian, died from COVID-19. Christian was a nurse and Beyoncé was the flower girl at her wedding.

“Losing our healthcare workers who are fighting for our families and us is the saddest thing. These are real people with real families,” Lawson said. “These healthcare workers are dying of this disease. Please take it seriously and stay home if you can.”

In addition to Beyoncé, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation teamed up with Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation and Jack Dorsey’s #startsmall initiative to fund over $6 million in grants aimed at supporting COVID-19 rapid response efforts all over the world, including vulnerable populations in New York, New Orleans, and Puerto Rico.

Here’s Why Drake’s Mattress Costs Almost $400,000

Drake wasn’t kidding when he said he only loves his bed and his mama … his bed costs more than most people’s houses!

The rapper has been giving the world quick glances at his massive, $100 million, 50,000 square-foot-mansion in his hometown of Toronto in music videos like “When to Say When & Chicago Freestyle” and, more recently, “Toosie Slide.”

However, his cover story for Architectural Digest details the home, dubbed “The Embassy,” in its entirety, showing off lavish amenities and features like the 20,000-piece Swarovski crystal chandelier, his NBA-sized basketball court with a pyramidal skylight, a full recording studio, indoor swimming pool and more.

But Drake’s favorite room is his bedroom, and that’s probably because it has a $395,000 bed in it.

“The bedroom is where I come to decompress from the world at the end of the night and where I open my eyes to seize the day,” Drake told Architectural Digest. “The bed lets you float…”

According to Complex, Drake’s bed even has a name—the “Grand Vividus”—and it was made by Hästens, a fifth-generation, family-owned Swedish bed-maker with more than 350 locations all over the world.

Linus Adolfsson, the co-founder of VRt Ventures and owner of Hästens Los Angeles, said each Hästen mattress is built to last between 50 and 100 years and is made out of natural material like horsehair, wool, cotton, and flax.

Adolfsson also pointed out the height of Hästens’ mattress springs, which feature more coils than your average bed for extra support and comfort.

“So, how many springs, how many turns, and the last thing is layers of horse hair,” Adolfsson told Complex when asked why Drake’s mattress is so damn expensive.

“The more horsehair allows for the bed to conform more, and allows for the bed to breathe more. That is the general things. If we look at the beds from $10,000 and up to $390,000, it’s a very big difference in the amount of materials in the beds.”

Adolfsson also revealed a major perk in purchasing a Hästens mattress. Someone from the company is sent to a customer’s house at least three to five times a year to flip and massage the mattress at no cost … because obviously.

Drake’s bed was made in collaboration with interior/architectural designer Ferris Rafauli, who built Drake’s home.

“So the relationship was actually with his designer, with an amazing designer Ferris Rafauli,” Adolfsson added. “He was the one who has been using Hästens beds for all of his projects the last 10 plus years. He is known for all his luxury design. He was the one who, together with Hastens, created this specific masterpiece called the Grand Vividus.”

Adolfsson said the Grand Vividus weighs nearly half a ton took around 600 hours to make by hand.

Though the mattress features the same material used in all of Hästens’ designs, what makes Drake’s bed particularly special is the way it was decorated.

Adolfsson said the Grand Vividus’ design is a nod to Hästens’ origins as an 18th-century saddle-maker, as it features leather details in the straps and gold hardware “that kind of resembles the bits for what you have in the horse’s mouth.”

“This is the first time when a mattress truly became a design object,” Adolfsson said. “What design means is functional art. So, seeing a mattress with just the most beautiful designed objects in the world, to truly be a masterpiece, is going to make this launch so crazy and so interesting … I believe that your mattress, which you share only with yourself, and you absolutely love, people you love the most in your life. To make that piece of furniture into something so beautiful change the whole perception of the bedroom.”

If you would like to purchase a Grand Vividus bed, there’s time for you to save up your coins because Adolfsson said there’s a waiting list, with 10 beds currently on reserve at t Hästens Los Angeles and Hästens on Madison Avenue in New York City.

You can learn more about the bed and join the waiting list here.

Former “The Chi” Star Jason Mitchell Arrested in Mississippi for Ecstasy, Marijuana & Gun Possession

Actor Jason Mitchell was arrested in Mississippi on felony weapons and drug charges.

Online arrest records show that the former The Chi star was booked into Harrison County Jail Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 23).

He’s facing a total of four felony charges—two for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (ecstasy and marijuana) plus two for possession of a weapon by a felon.

Jail records show that Jason was caught with two guns: a Glock 19 pistol and a mini Draco AK-47 semi-automatic pistol.

He was released Wednesday evening on a $150,000 surety bond. Details about the arrest weren’t immediately available.

The past year has been particularly rough for Mitchell.

Last May, he was accused of sexual harassment on the set of The Chi when his co-star Tiffany Boone complained to producers about him making her feel uncomfortable on set.

Mitchell was subsequently fired from his starring role as Brandon Johnson in the popular Showtime series and also lost a lead role in the Netflix film Desperados after an actress complained of similar behavior on the set of that project.

He was also dropped from both his talent agency and management company and also lost an MTV award nomination over the accusations.

A few months later in October, it was reported that the Straight Outta Compton actor had recently completed a mental health course in connection to the sexual harassment allegations and worked on his issues with anger management, self-awareness, acceptance of responsibility and purpose.

Mitchell was also hit with a lawsuit in February 2020 over a $60,000 loan after Comerica Bank said he defaulted on the payments weeks after losing his job on The Chi.

Woman Accidentally Gave Handyman $21,000 Check, He “Thanked the Lord” & Deposited the Money

A 67-year-old handyman in St. George, Utah was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly deposited a check that was accidentally written for $21,000 into his bank account.

According to the police report, a woman hired Berklee Holm to complete a concrete job in her yard.

Holm originally quoted the woman a price of $4,200 and said that he would need $2,100 upfront to purchase materials.

The woman told police she accidentally wrote Holm a check for $21,000 (instead of $2,100) and hand-delivered it to the man on March 13th.

Police said Holm didn’t waste any time and deposited the check into his bank account that same day.

The woman said she tried to call Holm several times, but after Holm did not return her calls and also failed to return to the job site on the agreed-upon day, the woman involved the police.

Hurricane Police Officer Darren Richmond was eventually able to make contact with Holm on April 1st, and Holm allegedly said he knew the check was far more than agreed when he went to the bank to cash it, but thought that it was a blessing from God.

Holm also reportedly confirmed that he did not make any attempts to return the money.

“He advised that once he saw the amount he basically ‘thanked the Lord and put it in (his) account,'” Richmond wrote in the report.

Holm was arrested on April 3rd and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility for theft of mistakenly delivered property and was later released on a $10,000 cash bail.

Minneapolis Man Charged With Murder After Fatally Shooting Girlfriend’s Baby Daddy As He Dropped Kids Off

A Minneapolis man is facing a murder charge after police say he shot and killed the father of his girlfriend’s children while the victim was dropping the kids off to visit their mother.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called Sunday night (Apr. 19) to an apartment building in Maple Grove, where they found a 31-year-old adult male dead on the kitchen floor with three gunshot wounds—two to the chest and one to the abdomen.

The children’s mother told police prior to the victim arriving, she and her boyfriend, 44-year-old Rodney D. Velho, had been celebrating her birthday, and at some point during the evening, she told Velho that her ex would be stopping by to drop their two kids off.

KSTP News reported that surveillance footage captured the victim arriving with the children just before 6 p.m.

Another witness told police the kids’ mom introduced Velho to the victim and they shook hands, and everything seemed fine.

However, not even an hour later, the two men got into an argument in the bathroom, and Velho allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim, who stumbled out of the bathroom and fell to the kitchen floor.

The criminal complaint states that Velho then shot the unarmed man two more times and fled the scene after police were called, as seen on surveillance footage showing him running out of the apartment building around 7:10 p.m.

Velho was arrested in the parking lot and police said he smelled of alcohol.

He admitted to shooting the other man and told the officers he regretted not walking away when the two started arguing.

Police later recovered the murder weapon on top of fire sprinkler pipes in the apartment building’s stairwell.

Velho was charged in Hennepin County District Court with second-degree intentional murder in connection with the killing and remains in jail.

If convicted as charged, he could face up to 40 years in prison, CBS Minnesota reported.

The 31-year-old victim’s identity wasn’t revealed.

DNA Tests Reveal 3 Newborns Abandoned Years Apart at Florida Apartment Complex Are All Siblings

Back in 2016, a newborn baby was abandoned at the Willow Key Apartments in Orlando, Florida.

A year later, another baby was left alone at the same apartment complex. Then, a third baby was discovered last year.

Now, police know that all three children are siblings from the same mother and father, according to reports.

Police were looking into the case when the third baby was found last July by a resident enjoying her breakfast.

The woman said she heard the baby crying, and when she went outside, she found the infant wrapped in a T-shirt with a note.

“Born @ 5:45 p.m. yesterday July 19, 2019,” the note read. “I had him in the bathroom alone. His dad tried to kill us. Please keep him secret and take him to the hospital. Dad [is] a very dangerous man. I’m so sorry. I tried to clean him and feed him as much as I could.”

The detective assigned to this case knew of the other two abandoned children, and asked that all three receive DNA testing on a hunch that the cases might be related.

The police department approved a $2,500 genealogy analysis, local news outlets reported, and when the results came back, it confirmed the detective’s hunch that the three are siblings.

“We can confirm that all three infants in this case are siblings but can’t comment any further, at this time, to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation,” authorities said in a statement.

“If we are able to identify the mother, her safety is our top priority, as well as the safety of any other potential children.”

The police have declined to reveal the babies’ genders or where they’ve been living since being found for their protection, but the investigation continues as they look for the mother and father.

They’ve asked for $5,000 to partner with United Data Connect which is a company that uses genetic genealogists and has a vast database of DNA profiles in hopes that they’ll be able to find the parents, says the Orlando Police Department.

When asked whether or not the parents would face criminal charges for child abandonment, a department spokeswoman told reporters: “It’s tricky … it varies on a case-by-case basis.”
