In the words of Lizzo … “it’s about damn time.”

The Florida woman accused of shooting and killing an unarmed Black mother of four last week has finally been arrested.

58-year-old Susan Louise Lorincz was arrested early Wednesday morning (Jun. 7) on charges of manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery and two counts of assault in the shooting death of Ajike “AJ” Owens, Sheriff Billy Woods of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

This comes after Lorincz initially tried to hide behind Florida’s “stand your ground” law by claiming that she was acting in self-defense when she shot Owens through her front door Friday night (Jun. 2) because Owens had “come after her in the past” and had previously attacked her.

However, following an investigation, “detectives were able to establish that Susan Lorincz’s actions were not justified under Florida law,” which is why she was arrested.

Sheriff Woods said this case was NOT a stand-your-ground case but “simply a killing.”

Lorincz will make her first court appearance Thursday (Jun. 8).
