Tulsa Police Officers Arrest Black Teen for Jaywalking, Say Cops Are Shooting Black People “Less Than We Probably Ought To”

Newly surfaced bodycam footage shows two white Tulsa police officers placing two black teens in handcuffs for jaywalking.

The incident, which occurred last week and is now under internal investigation, comes as protests against police brutality continue across the country following the murder of George Floyd by a police officer.

In the video, the two officers exit their patrol car as the teens pass by walking down the middle of the road.

One of the officers says something to the teens, then quickly grabs one of the teens and takes him to the ground before placing him in handcuffs.

“You want to see me in jail or dead,” the teen asked the officers before accusing them of targeting him because of his race.

The officers claim that they were simply trying to ask the teens questions, yet they are seen grabbing the young man’s arm early on in the conversation. They said the teen was being “aggressive,” according to reports.

News outlets are reporting that about 15 minutes into the video, an adult Black man approaches and asks the officers what they are doing.

“You don’t have to do all that,” he says. “I’m watching you assault that little boy right there.”

One of the officers responds by threatening to arrest the innocent bystander. Though both teens were handcuffed, one was eventually let go and the other was placed under arrest.

The video prompted Tulsa’s mayor, G.T. Bynum, to post a message on Facebook.

“I want every kid in Tulsa to feel safe to walk down the street in their neighborhood,” the message read. “The goal of that work should be that families feel safe in their neighborhood. This instance accomplished the opposite.”

This is just one of many instances of racial injustice in the city of Tulsa.

Reports recently emerged that a high ranking Tulsa Police Department member went on a podcast to say that he believed that officers are shooting Black people “less than we probably ought to.”

The problem goes much further back, though. In 1921, Tulsa was home to one of the largest displays of blatant racism in the country when white citizens attacked a highly popular and wealthy black neighborhood called Black Wall Street.

The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre has not been taught widely in public schools, but HBO’s Watchmen recently highlighted the injustice with the series’ premiere episode. Warning: Graphic Footage.

“His Skull Was Actually Showing”: Man Critically Injured After Toppled Confederate Statue Hit Him in the Head

A Virginia man is fighting for his life in the hospital after he was critically injured when he was hit in the head by a Confederate statue at a monument that was toppled by demonstrators.

A witness identified as a Black Lives Matter activist told WAVY that the injured man, who has since been identified as Chris Green, was at the front of the statue when he was struck in the head as it was pulled down by demonstrators in Portsmouth Wednesday night (Jun. 10).

Video footage of the incident showed the exact moment the toppled statue slammed into Green and knocked him to the ground.

“It came and fully hit him in the head, and we could see that his skull was actually showing,” the BLM activist said. “He was convulsing on the ground.”

“He lost a great amount of blood,” the witness added. “And we ask that everybody pray for that man right now.”

Green’s wife said he was a protest at the Confederate monument in Olde Towne Portsmouth when people starting rioting. At one point, some of the people pulled down a statue, which landed directly on top of Green.

Portsmouth police were on the scene, but they did not stop in to stop the protesters until the statue came down on Green just after 9 p.m.

Green’s wife of 13 years, who wasn’t with him at the demonstration, told 13News Now his heart stopped twice while he was in the ambulance being rushed to the hospital. She said they share two children together and she was upset that protesters “didn’t think” when they pulled the statue down.

The crowd was reportedly frustrated by Portsmouth City Council’s indecision on the future of the Confederate monument, and hours before the protest, officials had debated moving the monument and how to handle protests at the site.

Virginia State Police said they were investigating the incident and said that Green is still alive, but his injuries are life-threatening. He’s been placed into a medically induced coma by doctors at Santara Norfolk General Hospital.

VSP said no arrests have been made and the Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney will determine if any charges will be filed.

On Thursday morning, Black Lives Matter 757, the group that organized Wednesday night’s demonstration, shared a GoFundMe page that’s been authorized by Green’s family to help with his medical expenses.

The group said they’ll provide updates on his condition when it becomes available. As of 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the page had raised more than $17,000 from over 500 donors.

The statue toppling in Portsmouth is part of a wave of Confederate and Christopher Columbus monuments being forcefully brought down in the wake of outrage over police brutality and systemic racism following the killing of George Floyd in police custody.

100 miles away from Portsmouth in Richmond (the former capital of the Confederacy), protesters tore down a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis along the city’s famed Monument Avenue.

Elderly Karen Goes Off on Asian Woman Exercising in the Park: “Go Back to Whatever Country You Belong In!”

Another day, another racist Karen spewing hateful things at people who aren’t white.

In this instance, Karen is an old white lady who was pissed off at a young Asian woman for exercising on the stairs at Charles H. Wilson Park in Torrance, California.

According to the young woman, after Elderly Karen walked through her workout on purpose, she said “Jesus!” which clearly set elderly Karen all the way off.

“Next time you ever talk to me like that, you’re gonna get your ass kicked by my family. They’re gonna f**k you up!” Elderly Karen shouted before suggesting that the woman do her exercises at a gym instead because “this is not just for you!”

Elderly Karen went on: “Get the f**k out of this world, get the f**k out of this state, go back to whatever f**king Asian country you belong in. You little f**king bitch! This is not your place. This is not your home. We do not want you here!”

Elderly Karen then dared the young woman to post the video on Facebook and threatened more violence before calling her an “idiot” for wearing black clothes in the hot California sun.

It’s worth noting that Elderly Karen and the young woman appeared to be the ONLY two people in the ENTIRE park at the time … and there were plenty of other places for Elderly Karen to walk, so her anger is hella confusing.

The young woman, who asked her name to be withheld, told KTLA she couldn’t believe what happened.

“I was in shock, I was like, ‘I don’t even know how to respond to this. Is this really happening to me?'” she said, adding that the encounter left her shaken and afraid to return to the park.

The Torrance Police Department is reportedly investigating the incident.

Thomas Lane, Fired Cop Charged in Murder of George Floyd, Released From Jail After Posting $750k Bail

Thomas Lane, one of the fired police officers who was charged in the killing of George Floyd, was released from jail on Wednesday (Jun. 10) after posting his $750K bail.

When asked how Lane was able to post bond so quickly, his lawyer simply told TMZ that it was “pretty good news.”

Lane’s family was previously seeking donations online to help get him out of jail and to raise money for his defense fund, TMZ reported, however, it wasn’t confirmed whether or not that was how he raised the money. (FYI: The website has since been taken offline.)

Lane is one of four former Minneapolis police officers who was charged in the murder of George Floyd, who died in police custody on May 25th while he was pinned to the ground by his neck under Derek Chauvin’s knee for nearly nine minutes, as seen in a shocking video that quickly went viral.

Chauvin was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, while Lane and the other three cops involved in Floyd’s fatal arrest—J. Alexander Kueng and Chauvin’s partner, Tou Thao—were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Lane’s attorney has argued that he was not complicit in Floyd’s murder, claiming the ex-cop did everything he could to help Floyd, including suggesting rolling Floyd on his side, which Chauvin refused to do, prosecutors said.

According to Lane’s family, he was also the one who called the ambulance and even accompanied Floyd in the emergency vehicle and tried to perform CPR on him to save his life.

However, Lane was also involved in pinning down Floyd, as seen in an alternate angle from the scene showing him on top of one of Floyd’s legs, while Kueng was on his back.

Lane’s family the chain of command prohibited him from intervening more, as he was a rookie officer undergoing training and was only on his fourth day of patrol.

It seems as though Lane’s defense strategy will involve citing his lack of experience as a factor in why he didn’t do more to save Floyd’s life.

Chauvin, a 19-year veteran of the Minneapolis police force, had 18 citations on his record at the time of Floyd’s killing, which came after police were called to a suspected forgery in progress after Floyd was accused of using a fake $20 bill at a deli.

Floyd’s death sparked global outrage and protests all over the world for the past two weeks.

All four of the officers involved in Floyd’s fatal arrest face 40 years in prison if convicted as charged.

Entertainment Journalist & “This Is Us” Writer Jas Waters aka Jas Fly Dead at 39

Jasmine “Jas” Waters, an entertainment journalist and writer for popular TV shows like NBC’s This Is Us and Showtime’s Kidding, has died at the age of 39.

The passing of Waters, who also went by the moniker “Jas Fly,” was first confirmed by her friend and fellow writer, Sade Sellers, on Twitter Wednesday afternoon (Jun. 10).

The official This Is Us writers’ Twitter account also confirmed the sad news Wednesday.

“The entire #ThisIsUs family was devastated to learn of Jas Waters passing,” the statement read.

“In our time together, Jas left her mark on us and ALL over the show. She was a brilliant storyteller and a force of nature. We send our deepest sympathies to her loved ones. She was one of us. RIP @JasFly.”

Jas Waters was born in Illinois and later graduated from Columbia College Chicago.

At the time of her passing, she was living in Los Angeles where she worked as a freelance writer and wrote TV shows for various networks, including NBC, VH1, Comedy Central and Showtime.

Waters also starred on VH1’s short-lived reality show Gossip Game, and worked on the production of TV shows like ER and MTV’s The Real World, as well as movies such as Spiderman, Barbershop and Save the Last Dance.

Waters’ journalism contributions were also notable, as she created and ran her own entertainment blog for several years and quickly became one of the most recognizable hip-hop journalists, even landing her own column in VIBE magazine back in 2012.

In an interview with Shadow and Act last year, Waters talked about her experience as a Black woman working in the entertainment industry.

“We as people of color want to see ourselves; we deserve to see ourselves,” she said. “So the fight first is to see ourselves—and that is a very rightful fight—but it’s a fight that I also fight.

“The shows that I create from now until the foreseeable future will probably feature people of color first, because I’m itching to tell our story. But that does not mean that you don’t have people of color working in the field, who are doing great work still telling the stories that are being told.”

Her last tweet, dated May 8th, 2020, read: “Some sh** just changes you.”

Waters’ cause of death has yet to be revealed, the Los Angeles Times reported, however, social media was flooded with tributes and condolences after her passing was announced.

Necole Kane, former entertainment blogger (NecoleBitchie.com) and CEO of the women’s lifestyle brand xoNecole wrote on Twitter: “I’m at a loss for words. @JasFly has been on my heart and spirit for some time now.

“I would always tell her when I saw her, how much I admired her work. Her storytelling. Her authenticity. Her gift to the world. Sometimes I wish I could have said more. I’m saddened.”

‘Live PD’ Destroyed Video of Javier Ambler Saying “I Can’t Breathe” Before Dying in Police Custody, Sheriff Asked to Resign

On March 28th, 2019, Javier Ambler, a 40-year-old father of two, died while being arrested by Williamson County, Texas sheriff’s deputies.

The incident was captured by the film crew of the popular television show Live PD, but recent reports discovered that the unaired footage has been destroyed.

Live PD, which follows police officers around the country and broadcasts their activities live on A&E, became wildly popular when it came out in 2016.

However, with recent protests against police brutality happening across the country, it has gone on temporary hiatus.

Now, news has emerged that the team behind the show destroyed a video that could’ve been used in the investigation of Ambler’s death while in custody.

Officers tried to pull Ambler over when he didn’t dim his SUV’s headlights for oncoming traffic before he led them on a 20-minute chase.

When he did pull over, the unarmed man allegedly resisted arrest, prompting officers to taze him four times.

Footage from the officers’ dashcams and bodycams captured Ambler saying that he has “congestive heart failure.”

Before the final shock, he was heard saying, “save me,” according to reports. He became unresponsive shortly after and was later pronounced dead.

According to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Ambler’s cause of death was partially attributed to “forcible restraint,” CNN reported.

A&E released a statement confirming that “video of the tragic death of Javier Ambler was captured by body cams worn on the officers involved as well by the producers of Live PD who were riding with certain officers involved.”

When no one asked for the footage, they deleted it as they do all unaired footage.

Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore, whose office is taking the case to a grand jury, accused Sheriff Robert Chody of stonewalling the investigation, and three Williamson County commissioners are calling for his resignation, claiming the sheriff was withholding evidence that could’ve been used in the investigation.

“I, like you, am outraged over the circumstance of his death, shocked at Sheriff Chody’s failure to cooperate with the investigation into Mr. Ambler’s death, and heartbroken for his family and loved ones,” said Commissioner Cynthia Long. “Sheriff Chody must resign.”

NJ Corrections Officer Suspended, FedEx Employee Fired for Mocking George Floyd Killing During Protest

Two more white men have lost their jobs for mocking the tragic death of George Floyd, who was murdered by police officers in an incident that has sparked protests across the nation.

One of those protests occurred in Franklin Township, New Jersey. As the group of Black Lives Matter activists marched peacefully through the small town, they passed by a demonstration from counter-protestors.

Video from the march shows one white man resting with his knee on the neck of another white man. It’s the same manner in which Floyd was killed by a police officer. The two stood in front of pickup trucks adorned with flags supporting Donald Trump and the Blue Lives Matter movement.

“This is what happens when you don’t comply with the cops,” the man yelled at the passing protestors, according to the video released. “Comply with the cops and this wouldn’t have happened! He didn’t comply!”

“It’s his fault he’s dead, not the cop,” he added.

The incident was disturbing for the peaceful protestors who are advocating against police brutality that has left many African Americans dead from excessive police force.

“It automatically brought me to tears,” Daryan Fennal, a local organizer of the protest, told reporters. “The display yesterday showed me that racism is real, racism is alive, it’s right next door to you.”

Once the video went viral, the identities of the two men were discovered by their employers.

One, Joseph Demarco, worked with the New Jersey Department of Corrections as a senior corrections officer at Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, and once they found out about the act, they quickly put the man on leave.

“The individual has been suspended from their post and banned from NJDOC facilities pending a thorough and expedited investigation,” their statement said.

https://www.facebook.com/NJDepartmentofCorrections/posts/620867261862800

The other man, who worked for FedEx and was identified as James Demarco (Joseph’s brother?), was outright fired over the incident.

“FedEx holds its team members to a high standard of personal conduct and we do not tolerate the kind of appalling and offensive behavior depicted in the video,” the company said. “We stand with those who support justice and equality.”

This isn’t the first case of people losing their jobs for mocking the death of Floyd. Back in May, a wrestling coach in Washington was let go after posting similar messages online.

Officer Involved in Murder of Breonna Taylor Linked to Multiple Sexual Assault Cases, Called “A Predator of the Worst Kind”

Brett Hankison, one of the three Louisville Metro Police Department responsible for the unwarranted murder of Breonna Taylor, is under investigation for sexual misconduct after multiple women say he assaulted them.

According to news reports, Hankison, 44 years old, was placed on administrative leave after he and officers Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove fired more than 22 rounds into Taylor’s apartment, killing the 26-year-old paramedic.

While many are calling for the officers to be fired and charged for the killing, the local police department has yet to take action despite increased pressure from Black Lives Matter protests across the country.

Now, however, officials are facing even more scrutiny after recent social media posts highlighting a history of misconduct by the officer.

Margo Borders took to Facebook to chronicle an experience she had with Hankison back in April of 2018.

In the post, Borders claims that she went out to some bars with her friends, and afterward, she was offered a ride by Hankison.

https://www.facebook.com/margo.borders/posts/3280842855280375

“He drove me home in uniform, in his marked car, invited himself into my apartment and sexually assaulted me while I was unconscious,” the post reads. “I never reported him out of fear of retaliation. I had no proof of what happened and he had the upper hand because he was a police officer.”

“Who do you call when the person who assaulted you is a police officer?” she asked her followers.

In a statement released through her attorney, Borders said that “Brett Hankison is a predator of the worst kind.”

Borders wasn’t the only one to call out Hankison online, though. Another woman, Emily Terry, shared her experience with the officer on Instagram.

“In early fall, I began walking home from a bar intoxicated. A police officer pulled up next to me and offered me a ride home,” the post reads. “I thought to myself, ‘Wow. That is so nice of him’’ And willingly got in.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBBRL6QlFBW/

She then goes on to describe how Hankison rubbed her thighs, kissed her forehead, and called her “baby,” despite her refusing his advances.

According to other reports, Hankison has been under scrutiny for sexual misconduct as far back as 2008 when he was accused of receiving oral sex in exchange for not arresting a woman.

In 2015, a parole officer told investigators that a parolee had informed her that the officer told her he wanted to “date her,” and said a ticket could be taken care of if she had sex with him.

Despite all of this, Hankison remains on administrative leave, with the police department only releasing the following statement:

“We encourage anyone with direct information about this situation to contact us and share that information with an investigator at (502) 574-7144.”

Ramsey Orta, Man Who Filmed Eric Garner’s Fatal Police Chokehold Arrest, Released From Prison

Ramsey Orta—the man who recorded the video of Eric Garner’s 2014 arrest that led to his death by police chokehold—has been released from prison after four years, Rolling Stone reports.

Orta’s fiancée, Deja Richardson, confirmed the news to Rolling Stone via e-mail. A spokesperson with the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision also confirmed Orta’s May 28th prison release.

Back in 2016, Orta was sentenced to four years in prison for weapon possession as well as drug charges.

Two years before that, Orta, then 22, filmed cops as they approached Eric Garner near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and accused him of selling loose cigarettes.

Officer Daniel Pantaleo put his arm around Garner’s neck and threw him to the ground. Garner repeatedly told officers that he was having trouble breathing and died.

Orta’s video not only sparked outrage and national protests, but it also started discussions about police brutality and inspired the phrase “I Can’t Breathe,” which is what Garner told cops several times before he died in their custody.

Orta, who was arrested several times for criminal possession of a weapon and various drug-related incidents since 2014, believes he was targeted by New York police after the video went viral.

A year after filming Garner’s fatal arrest, Orta told Time magazine he regretted being involved because the public attention was, at times, too much for him to handle. “It just put me in a messed-up predicament,” he said.

Orta also claimed that he’d been targeted by correctional officers while he was in jail at Rikers Island. He reportedly filed a lawsuit in 2015 claiming that rat poison was put in his food at Rikers.

After being found guilty at a disciplinary trial, Officer Pantaleo was fired in August 2019 without pension for using a chokehold on Garner.

Earlier this week, New York lawmakers passed a bill named for Eric Garner called the “Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Act.”

The use of chokeholds by NYPD had already been banned since 1993, however, the Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Act now criminalizes the use of chokeholds that results in injury or death.

The bill ensures that any police officer who injures or kills someone through the use of a “chokehold or similar restraint” would be charged with a Class C felony, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

As for Orta, his name has recently resurfaced in the media as people protest all over the country due to the police killing of George Floyd, whose death was also filmed and sparked global outrage.

There’s currently a GoFundMe campaign raising money for Orta following his release from jail that has so far raised over $300,000, surpassing its initial $200,000 goal.

Private Investigation Shows Tamla Horsford May Have Been Murdered During “Adult Slumber Party,” Family Attorney Says

Amid the recent Black Lives Matter movement and protests following the recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others, there has been renewed interest in a number of cases where people feel as though justice hasn’t been served for Black victims of apparent violence.

Among those cases is the mysterious death of Georgia mom Tamla Horsford.

For the uninitiated, Horsford—a Forsyth County, Georgia mother of five—was found dead in the backyard of a home back in November 2018, the morning after she attended an “adult slumber party” with other football moms.

Authorities claimed Tamla’s death was the result of her “accidentally falling” from a balcony, while many others have strongly suspected foul play.

It is important to note that the other women were white, while Horsford was the only Black woman at the party.

In February 2019, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office announced that they were closing the case because investigators hadn’t found any evidence of foul play in Horsford’s death.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office wrote in a press release dated February 20th:

On February 6th, 2019, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office received the final Medical Examiner’s report regarding Mrs. Horsford. The State of Georgia Medical Examiner has ruled the death accidental and consistent with a fall.

Detectives have spent the following weeks reviewing the medical findings with those found at the scene by the Major Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

No evidence or injury patterns indicative of an assault or foul play were noted by Forsyth County Sheriff’s Detectives or in the Forsyth County Coroner’s Office or GBI [Georgia Bureau of Investigation] Medical Examiner’s reports.

During the course of this investigation, Detectives have conducted approximately 30 interviews, and spent well over 300-man hours conducting this investigation.

With a finding of an accidental death resulting from a fall as recorded by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, along with the extensive findings from the investigation of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s office has closed this death investigation.

However, Atlanta’s WSB-TV is now reporting that an attorney hired by Horsford’s family says his own independent investigation has led him to believe that Tamla may have been murdered.

Attorney Ralph Fernandez wrote in a letter to Horsford’s family: “It appears Tamla was involved in a struggle. There were abrasions consistent with that scenario. There were parallel scratches to one arm. Since they were fresh, photos would not have proven recent use of defensive force. There was one x-ray, yet the injury noted as the cause of death appears nowhere.”

Fernandez also went into detail regarding a number of issues he had with how investigators initially handled the case.

“Witness statements are in conflict. A potential subject handled the body as well as the evidence prior to law enforcement arriving. Evidence was disposed of and no inquiry followed. The scene was not preserved,” his letter stated.

“A remarkable fact is that there were no photographs taken during the autopsy of Tamla’s body. This had to have been done at someone’s directive because such a practice is unheard of.”

Fernandez also referenced the Ahmaud Arbery case in an effort to highlight what he feels are longstanding issues when it comes to law enforcement investigating the deaths of Black Americans.

“Here we are fighting an uphill battle because those who wear the badges were entrusted with the investigatory task, failed you. But this is not over,” Fernandez wrote.

For what it’s worth, a friend of Horsford’s, Michelle Graves, has never believed that her friend’s death was an accident.

“They’re totally lying,” Graves told WSB-TV of the officials who investigated Horsford’s death. “They’re not out of the woods, because this was not an accident.”

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement:

“The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the death of Tamla Horsford. Evidence from the incident along with the findings from the Georgia Medical Examiner’s Office was utilized to come to the conclusion of the case.

“At the request of the family, we took another look into the evidence and also had an independent agency, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, look over the findings. No additional information was found.

“In a continued effort to remain transparent, we welcome any new information from the Attorney’s Office handling the case for the family. To date, we have received none. We’re prepared to have an independent Investigative authority such as, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, to reopen the investigation if new information is provided.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a separate statement:

“The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Tamla Horsford. As part of the autopsy, photographs were taken, in addition to review of scene photographs. As was done in this case, the GBI documents autopsies in various ways that include photos. We stand behind our original findings which are available upon request through GBI’s Open Records Unit.”

Former Ohio Teacher Who Molested 28 First-Graders Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

A former teacher out of Springboro, Ohio was sentenced to just eight years in prison after he was found guilty of molesting dozens of first-grade students.

WKRC reports:

A jury found John Hopkins guilty of 34 of the 36 charges against him in March.

Hopkins molested 28 first grade girls at Clearcreek Elementary School. His actions were caught on surveillance video. He would nuzzle and kiss the girls. He put his hands on their thighs and other body parts and inside of their shirts.

Hopkins had told police he only gave side hugs and high fives. During his trial, prosecutors noted he didn’t treat the first-grade boys the same way.

His defense attorneys said he was on the autism spectrum at the time of his trial.

Parents who’d seen the videos testified how they felt “appalled” and “disgusted” by Hopkins’ behavior. “[Hopkins] put her on his lap, spread her legs, tickle her, nuzzling and all while gym class was going on,” a father said in his testimony.

Hopkins could have received a maximum sentence of 170 years in prison.

This man molested TWENTY. EIGHT. FIRST-GRADE. STUDENTS … and he could have been sentenced to up to 170 years in prison, but the judge chose to give him only EIGHT?!?

EIGHT. YEARS. FOR. MOLESTING. TWENTY. WEIGHT. FIRST-GRADE. STUDENTS.

There are people in prison RIGHT NOW who were sentenced to more than 8 years for selling weed. WEED! Something that is now legal in the majority of states.

The American justice system is a joke, has been a joke and will continue to be a joke for the foreseeable future until there’s a serious overhaul.

Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters Dead at 69

After Bonnie went solo, they continued to rack up accolades and hits with the remaining members.

She got hitched to Motown exec Jeffrey Bowen and remained married for several years until they called it quits in the early 2000s.

Another one of the sisters, June, died in 2006 from cancer.

Bonnie is survived by 2 sisters.

Travis McMichael Stood Over Ahmaud Arbery & Called Him a “F**king N***er” After Shooting & Killing Him

Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan Jr.—the three men charged with Ahmaud Arbery’s murder —faced a judge in a preliminary hearing Thursday morning (Jun. 4) to determine whether there’s enough evidence to move forward with the case.

During the hearing, a detective with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took the stand and testified that he found no evidence that Ahmaud took anything from the home construction site he was walking through shortly before he was shot and killed by Travis McMichael.

The detective explained the extent the McMichaels and Bryan went to chase down Ahmaud, including boxing him in and hitting him with their pickup trucks, before they started recording him.

Agent Richard Dial said Travis eventually got out of his truck and shot Arbery in the chest, the first of three shots with a pump-action shotgun that caused Arbery to stumble and fall to the ground, mortally wounding him.

Dial added that the driver of the second pickup truck, William “Roddie” Bryan Jr., said he heard Travis call Arbery a “f**king n***er” as he stood over his body after the shooting before police arrived on the scene.

Special prosecutor Jesse Evans said Arbery “was chased, hunted down and ultimately executed.”

The evidence presented in court was to support murder charges against the McMichaels and Bryan and challenges the McMichaels’ self-defense claims.

The evidence could also factor into a federal investigation into whether or not the McMichaels should be charged with a hate crime.

Arbery was murdered on February 23rd after Gregory and Travis McMichael, who are father and son, armed themselves and chased the 25-year-old black man after they spotted him running in their neighborhood just outside Brunswick, Georgia.

William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. said he spotted the McMichaels driving by and joined the chase, Agent Dial said.

It took until May 7th—over two months after the shooting—for Gregory McMichael, 64, and Travis McMichael, 34, to be arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault after cellphone video of the shooting leaked online and sparked a national outcry.

Bryan, 50, who recorded the video, was also arrested and charged with felony murder and illegally using a vehicle to try to confine and detain Arbery.

According to Georgia law, felony murder is defined as a killing caused by the commission of an underlying felony and does not require intent to kill. The minimum penalty is life in prison with a chance of parole.

All three defendants remain in Glynn County Jail and a judge will later determine whether or not to release them in bond.

Manuel Ellis: Death of Tacoma Man Who Said “I Can’t Breathe” While in Police Custody Ruled a Homicide, 4 Cops Placed on Leave

Before there was George Floyd, there were countless others, including Manuel Ellis.

Manuel Ellis, 33, died in police custody on March 3rd after stating he couldn’t breathe during an altercation with Tacoma, Washington police officers. His death was just ruled a homicide.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office determined on Wednesday (Jun. 3) that Ellis died of respiratory arrest due to hypoxia due to physical restraint and officially ruled his death a homicide.

The report also shows that methamphetamine intoxication and an enlarged heart were contributing factors.

According to a 12-minute police recording of the incident, Ellis had a physical altercation with cops before he was restrained and handcuffed on the ground.

Ellis is heard saying, “I can’t breathe,” and police called for an ambulance within minutes.

Before paramedics arrived, Ellis had stopped breathing and lost consciousness. Though they performed CPR for 40 minutes, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The four officers involved in the incident have been identified as Christopher Burbank, Matthew Collins, Masyih Ford and Timothy Rankine.

All four were initially placed on paid administrative leave, but had recently returned to duty.

However, they were, again, placed on administrative leave following the medical examiner’s ruling and pending an investigation by the county’s prosecutor’s office.

Two of the officers are white, one is black, and one is Asian.

In addition to the murder of Floyd, Tacoma citizens have also been holding vigils for Ellis and protesting police brutality in his honor.

According to the cops’ story:

At 11:22 p.m. on March 3, police stopped Ellis for allegedly harassing a woman while walking home. Police say Ellis became belligerent, striking a patrol car and grabbing an officer by his vest and pushing him to the ground.

Police had got Ellis to the ground and handcuffed him when he said he couldn’t breathe. Paramedics were called at 11:25 p.m.

At the time, officials claimed Ellis was suffering from “excited delirium” in an attempt to explain his alleged violence and extra strength.

Openly Gay South Carolina Student Banned From Graduation for Wearing Pants Instead of a Dress

A South Carolina teen and Class of 2020 graduate says she was banned from walking at her high school graduation because she wore pants instead of a dress

On Tuesday (Jun. 2), Dynasia Clark, a senior from Lamar High School School in Darlington County, was preparing to walk the stage and become an official high school graduate.

But just before the ceremony, which was held outside to adhere to social distancing standards amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Clark was told she would not be allowed to walk with her classmates because she was wearing pants instead of a dress as required by the school’s dress code.

“I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal, because we’re already here, we’re already fixing to walk but now I can’t go because of a dress code,” Clark told ABC 15 News.

Being openly gay, Clark wanted to feel comfortable in her skin while experiencing this once in a lifetime moment.

“They already know how I am, so they already know that I’m not gonna wear a dress, so I didn’t think they would be like, ‘Oh well, you can’t walk’ because they already know me. I’ve been going to school here for four years.”

After realizing that school officials weren’t going to change their minds, Clark walked off the field and was forced to watch her classmates graduate from the other side of a fence.

“I was okay standing outside the gate watching them graduate because they’re my classmates,” she said. “I wouldn’t want to just go home because I can’t walk.”

During the ceremony, as names were being called, Clark said she was ready to hear her name to acknowledge the hard work she put in over the past 12 years … but she was omitted from the program.

“That was the part that made me more mad than anything because I was there, you could have still called my name,” she said. “It seems crazy to me. It seems stupid, like petty because it was just an outfit to me.”

Clark said she’s still in disbelief about not being able to walk at her own graduation because she had on pants instead of a dress.

“It shouldn’t have stopped me from doing something that I have been waiting on for 12 years. I went to school. Everybody be happy for their graduation day and I couldn’t even experience that,” she said.

Darlington County School District officials released the following statement:

“The Lamar High School dress code for graduation has been in place for more than 20 years. We welcome students or parents who have concerns with any policy or procedure to meet with administration and discuss those concerns.

“In the past, when a student raised concern with the administration about the dress code prior to graduation day, the issue was addressed.”

Clark went on to say that people should be judged by who they are and their personality … not by their looks or what they’re wearing.

George Floyd Autopsy Report Reveals He Tested Positive for Coronavirus

George Floyd’s full autopsy report was released Wednesday (Jun. 3) and it provides several new details, including the fact that Floyd previously tested for COVID-19.

The 20-page report was released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Officer with permission from Floyd’s family and comes after the coroner’s office released findings Monday (Jun. 1) that Floyd suffered a heart attack while being violently restrained by officers. His May 25th death was classified as a homicide.

Video footage went viral last Tuesday (May 26) showing now-former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on the back of Floyd’s neck and ignoring his “I can’t breathe” cries until he died. The incident has sparked global outrage and protests.

The autopsy report released Wednesday reveals that Floyd tested positive for coronavirus on April 3rd, but was asymptomatic. The report also noted that Floyd had healthy lungs, however, he did have some narrowing of arteries in the heart.

An earlier report from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner also revealed that Floyd had fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system when he died, however, those weren’t contributing factors in his death, the report noted.

A private autopsy at the request of Floyd’s family said his cause of death was asphyxia due to neck and back compression.

Chauvin and the other three officers involved in Floyd’s fatal arrest—Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane—were immediately fired from the Minneapolis Police Department the day the footage surfaced, with Chauvin being arrested and charged the next day.

Chauvin’s original charges—third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter—were upgraded to second-degree murder on Wednesday, and the other three officers were arrested and charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

All four officers involved face up to 40 years in prison if convicted as charged.

Mugshots Released of 4 Officers Charged With George Floyd’s Murder, All 4 Facing Up to 40 Years in Prison

The mugshots of the four former Minneapolis police officers responsible for George Floyd’s death have been released following their arrests, and they all face up to 40 years in prison if convicted as charged.

Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao were all present when Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into the back of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis for nearly nine minutes.

On Wednesday afternoon (Jun. 3), Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison charged Lane, Kueng and Thao with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Chauvin was originally charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, which carries a maximum 25-year prison sentence, but he now faces 40 years behind bars like his comrades his charges were upgraded to second-degree murder.

Chauvin was already in custody and the other three cops were taken into custody to be booked and processed on Wednesday.

The updated criminal complaint against Derek Chauvin stated that the officer’s actions were a “substantial causal factor” in Floyd’s death.

“Officer Chauvin’s restraint of Mr. Floyd in this manner for a prolonged period was a substantial causal factor in Mr. Floyd losing consciousness, constituting substantial bodily harm, and Mr. Floyd’s death as well,” the criminal complaint said.

The charges come after a week of global outrage and civil unrest across America in which millions called for the former MPD officers to be brought to justice.

Ellison said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon: “I strongly believe these developments are in the interest of justice for Mr. Floyd, his family, this community and this state.”

Ellison also thanked the public for giving him time to bring the charges.

“I asked for time for to review all the evidence. The investigation is ongoing at this time. I know it’s asking a lot of people to give us time and yet we did get that time,” he said.

“Together, a very strong experienced team, we reviewed the evidence and we have something to announce today. Thank you for the patience of the people they’ve shown me in pursuit of justice.”

Ellison added that the case remained under investigation and said the road ahead will not be easy while asking anyone with evidence to come forward with it.

“We are investigating as quickly as we can and as thoroughly as we can. Every single link in the prosecutorial chain must be strong. Trying this case will not be an easy thing.

“I say this not because we doubt our resources or our ability but history does show there are clear challenges here and we are going to be working very hard to support that endeavor.

“To the Floyd family, I say: ‘George Floyd mattered. His life had value and we will seek justice for him and for you and we will find it. The very fact that we have filed these charges means that we believe in it.'”

Ellison warned that the investigation would take “months” because he wants to build a “solid case” and not rush a trial.

“It will take a while and I can’t set a deadline on that,” he said.

Ellison added the charges brought against the officers shouldn’t bring an end to the global outrage over injustice sparked by Floyd’s killing.

“A protest can shake a tree and make the fruit fall down but after that fruit is in reach, collecting it and making the jam must follow,” he said.

“The demonstrations and protests are dramatic and necessary but building just institutions is more of a slow grind. We have to begin that work now.”

Floyd’s family called the charges a “bittersweet moment.” While they are happy all four cops have been charged, they wanted Chauvin to be hit with first-degree murder charges, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

All four cops were immediately fired from the Minnesota Police Department after the video showing Floyd’s death went viral Tuesday (May 28), but it took until the next day for Chauvin to be charged, and the other officers were charged a week later.

The case was taken from the hands of Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman and handed over to Minnesota AG Keith Ellison earlier this week following outrage over how the case was being handled.

Derek Chauvin was previously investigated over three police shootings and a fatal car chase.

44-year-old Chauvin was one of six officers connected to the death of Wayne Reyes in 2006. Reyes, 42, was killed by police after allegedly pulling a shotgun on the six cops.

Two years later, Chauvin was investigated for his role in the 2008 shooting of Ira Latrell Toles during a domestic assault call. Toles was wounded after police said he went for an officer’s gun and Chauvin shot him in the stomach.

In 2011, 23-year-old Leroy Martinez was injured in a shooting during a chase given by officers, including Chauvin.

Tou Thao was part of a $25,000 out-of-court settlement after he was sued for using excessive force in 2017 during an arrest in which he was accused of punching and kicking a handcuffed suspect “until his teeth broke.”

The other two officers, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng, were reportedly rookie cops who were still in their probationary periods.

Drew Brees Says He Doesn’t Support NFL Players Kneeling During National Anthem to Protest Racism Because It’s Disrespectful to the Flag

Drew Brees says he does NOT agree with NFL players taking a knee during the United States National Anthem because he says it’s disrespectful to the flag.

The New Orleans Saints Quarterback recently sat down for an interview with Yahoo! Finance’s “On the Move” and was asked about Colin Kaepernick’s form of protesting police brutality and racial injustice making a return when the NFL season starts back up in the fall.

Brees said he’s 100% against kneeling during the National Anthem.

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America,” he said.

The 41-year-old went on to explain that the National Anthem is especially important to him because both of his grandfathers served in the military and he gets emotional when thinking about the sacrifices they made to serve our country.

Brees also said he thinks about “the civil rights movements of the ’60s and everyone and all that has been endured by so many people up until this point” before addressing the current civil unrest in the U.S. following the police killing of George Floyd.

“Is everything right with our country right now? No, it’s not. We still have a long away to go. But, I think what you do by standing there and showing respect for the flag with your hand over your heart, is it shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together. We can all do better and that we are all part of the solution.”

Derek Chauvin Charged With 2nd Degree Murder for Killing George Floyd, Other 3 Cops Charged With “Aiding & Abetting Murder”

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison will increase the charges against Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd to second-degree murder, multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the case revealed to the Star Tribune.

Additionally, the other three officers involved in Floyd’s fatal arrest—Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane—will be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

Chauvin was arrested last Friday (May 29) and originally faced charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for kneeling on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes, which caused his death.

The Star Tribune reports:

Ellison is expected to provide an update this afternoon on the state’s investigation into Floyd’s death. According to sources, former officer Derek Chauvin, recorded on video kneeling on Floyd’s neck as he begged for air on May 25, will now be charged with second-degree murder.

The other three officers at the scene—Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane—will also be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, according to the sources, who spoke on conditions of anonymity. Chauvin was arrested last Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Thao was recorded watching as Chauvin continued to press on Floyd’s neck with his knee. Kueng was one of the first officers on the scene and helped pin Floyd down.

Lane was detailed in earlier charges as pointing a gun at Floyd before handcuffing, and later asked whether officers should roll Floyd on his side as he was restrained.

The charges come just days after Gov. Tim Walz asked Ellison to take over the prosecution, which until Sunday had been led by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

One of the attorneys representing George Floyd’s family, Benjamin Crump, released a statement shortly after 1:15 p.m. Wednesday praising the arrest and charging of the other three officers and the upgrading of murder charges against Chauvin.

Crump’s statement came before Ellison’s office made any official announcements.

“This is a bittersweet moment for the family of George Floyd,” said the joint statement by Floyd’s family, Crump and the legal team.

“We are deeply gratified that Attorney General Keith Ellison took decisive action in this case, arresting and charging all the officers involved in George Floyd’s death and upgrading the charge against Derek Chauvin to felony second-degree murder.”

Attorneys for the officers declined to comment or could not be immediately reached Wednesday.

“This is a significant step forward on the road to justice, and we are gratified that this important action was brought before George Floyd’s body was laid to rest,” the family’s and Crump’s statement said.

“That is a source of peace for George’s family in this painful time.”

The statement urged Ellison to continue the investigation and upgrade the charges to first-degree murder, which carries a life sentence.

First-degree murder requires proof of planning out the crime.

“These officers knew they could act with impunity, given the Minneapolis Police Department’s widespread and prolonged pattern and practice of violating people’s constitutional rights,” the statement said.

“Therefore, we also demand permanent transparent police accountability at all levels and at all times.”

The family and Crump thanked the “outpouring” of support they’ve received, which manifested in days of huge protests across the country and world.

“Our message to them: Find constructive and positive ways to keep the focus and pressure on,” they said. “Don’t let up on your demand for change.”

Amanda Seales Was Too Real for “The Real,” Quits Talk Show After 6 Months Because Her Strong Black Voice Wasn’t Respected

Amanda Seales gave it a good try, but ultimately, The Real just wasn’t the place for her.

The comedian/actress has chosen to quit the Emmy-winning talk show after joining as a co-host six months ago.

Seales made the announcement Tuesday (Jun. 2) during an Instagram Live conversation with actor Brandon Victor Dixon.

Seales revealed that she decided not to renew her contract because she felt her strong, black voice was not respected and that the working environment was not a good space for her. She also took issue with the lack of black voices in leadership roles.

“I didn’t renew it, because it doesn’t feel good to my soul to be at a place where I cannot speak to my people the way they need to be spoken to. And where the people that are speaking to me in disparaging ways are not being handled.

“I’m not at a space where as a full black woman I can have my voice and my co-workers also have their voices and where the people at the top are not respecting the necessity for black voices to be at the top too.”

During her chat with Dixon, Seales—who is unapologetically pro-black—also hinted that the network had been censoring what she could say on-air regarding the recent Black Lives Matter protests and uprisings.

“You’ve seen in me transform into a way where I just can’t function at this place the same way,” she continued. “They’re planting white beans in my soil.”

Seales joined The Real in January, replacing Tamar Braxton who was fired in 2016 and her seat was left empty for several seasons.

Seales’ gripe seems to be with behind-the-scenes management and not her co-host’s Loni Love, Tamera Mowry, Adrienne Bailon, and Jeannie Mai.

However, it has been rumored that there was some friction between Seales and Mai. Both denied there was an issue and agreed there’s room for all perspectives at the Real table.

The Insecure actress says that she’s not worried about money and finding future employment once she officially exits The Real.
