Lizzo Lands “V” Magazine Cover, Talks About Embracing Her Size & Loving Her Blackness

Lizzo is one of the hottest new artists on the scene right now and all of the buzz surrounding her major label debut has landed her on the cover of V magazine’s annual music issue.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw2k3L3g4uW/

Part of Lizzo’s V interview was conducted by fellow musician Sam Smith and she took the opportunity to praise her curvy body and promote body positivity.

“I love my body. No matter what angle you shoot it at, no matter the lighting, my body is just so f***king beautiful all the time. I may talk shit about it sometimes, but f**k. She’s still a bad b*tch.”

The 31-year-old says she used to wonder if her size prevented her from being successful. But self-love—which she admits “ebbs and flows”—helped her overcome those pestering thoughts.

“[Part of me was like], are they not posting about me because I am big? I felt this [frustration] with how I was being perceived all through high school, and for much of my life. Until I was like, f**k it. I just need to be undeniable. It’s not about me being big. It’s about me being me. Y’all are going to get this bad b*tch. You are going to get these bops and get this show. And you are going to get your life by receiving it.”

Another part of Lizzo’s identity is her blackness. And she’s most definitely a proud black woman!

“I am really just so honored to be graced with this identity. No shade to any other shade on the planet—I just can’t relate. I just love being a black woman, even in a world where [we] are statistically the least desirable. I am still here, and I still rise.”

And because she’s often felt excluded either because of her size, skin color, or her self-proclaimed nerdiness, Lizzo has made it a priority to use her artistry and newfound platform to break the mold and advocate for marginalized people.

“My movement is for everyone. It’s about inclusion,” she said. “Because f**k boxes; I am too big to be put in one anyway. I am a fat bitch.”

She added: “I want other people who look like me to have opportunities, to be seen and to get jobs.”

Cuz I Love You is Lizzo’s third studio album and first major label debut. The album debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 to universal acclaim.

The album “is a narrative of how to love yourself in a world that doesn’t love you back,” Lizzo explained, a message many probably need to hear right now.

John Singleton Dies at 51 After Suffering Major Stroke & Spending 2 Weeks in ICU

UPDATE: John Singleton has died, the iconic film director’s family announced.

“We are sad to relay that John Singleton has died,” a statement from the Singleton family read Monday (Apr. 29). “John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends.”

He was 51 years old.

Original story: There were a number of conflicting reports earlier regarding John Singleton’s health, but his family just released a statement announcing that they plan to take the legendary film director off life support sometime today (Mon, Apr. 28).

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” the Singleton family said. “This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”

The statement goes on to say that John “quietly struggled with hypertensions. More than 40% of African-American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe.”

The devastating news comes a little over a week after it was revealed Single had suffered a stroke while hospitalized after complaining about pain in his leg following a flight from Costa Rica.

Singleton was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles around two weeks ago and suffered a stroke just days later on April 17th.

Read the family’s lengthy statement in its entirety below:

It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.

John Singleton is a prolific, ground-breaking director who changed the game and opened doors in Hollywood, a world that was just a few miles away, yet worlds away, from the neighborhood in which he grew up.

John grew up in South Central L.A with a love of cinema that showed itself early on. He went on to become one of the most lauded graduates of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Within months of graduating, John returned to South Central to shoot his debut feature, Boyz N the Hood. The movie, which was unusually shot in sequence, masterfully captured a story of friendship, youth and the peril of hard choices in a community marred by gang violence. The film earned special honors at its debut at Cannes and Singleton went onto become the youngest director and first African-American writer-director nominated for the Academy Award. Two decades later, the film was placed in the Library of Congress, a marker of its cultural and historical significance.

John loved nothing more than giving opportunities to new talent and his films came to be known for career -making roles with actors who the industry would come to embrace; talents such as Tupac Shakur, Regina King, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Ice Cube, Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson.

Singleton’s work spanned genres and showcased his curiosity and creativity: the remake of Shaft, was a homage to his mentor, Gordon Parks. He also made historical films such as Rosewood and action films such as 2 Fast 2 Furious. Films like Baby Boy and Four Brothers were prescient in the questions they posed about men and the crisis in American masculinity. As streaming platforms created new opportunities in television, Singleton took his talents to shows such as Billions, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Empire. Most recently, he co-created and executive produced the current FX hit drama series Snowfall, in which he engaged such writing talents as Walter Mosley.

John was such a supernova in his youth that we forget that he was only beginning to fully assert his gifts as a director. Kurosawa was 52 when he directed High Low. Hitchcock was 56 when he directed To Catch a Thief. As much as we will treasure his body of work, we were looking forward to the films John would have made in the years ahead.

In his private life, John is a loving and supporting father, son, brother, and friend who believed in higher education, black culture, old school music and the power of film.

John’s confidence in his place in Hollywood was only matched for his passion for the sea. John kayaked in Marina Del Rey every morning. His greatest joy, when not on set, was sailing his boat, J’s Dream, up and down the Pacific Coast. The American writer Willa Cather once said, “There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in the storm.” We who have grown up with John, made movies with him, sailed with John and laughed with John, know the universe of calm and creativity he created for so many. Now in the wake of his death, we must navigate the storm without him. It is, for us, heartbreaking.

Like many African Americans, Singleton quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40% of African American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe. His family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going toHeart.org

We are grateful to his fans, friends and colleagues for the outpour of love and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We want to thank all the doctors at Cedars Sinai for the impeccable care he received.

John Daniel Singleton will be survived by his extraordinary mother, Sheila Ward, his father, Danny Singleton and his children Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven.

Details about memorial services will be provided at a later date.

Peabo Bryson Hospitalized After Suffering Heart Attack

Singer Peabo Bryson is recovering in the hospital after suffering a heart attack over the weekend.

According to TMZ, the Grammy Award-winning singer was at his home in Georgia early Saturday (Apr. 28) morning when he suffered what was described as a “mild” heart attack.

A rep for Peabo says he’s responsive and doctors believe he’ll make a speedy recovery.

Bryson’s rep said in a statement: “At this time, privacy is requested; however, the thoughts and prayers of friends and fans are welcomed and appreciated.”

Peabo Bryson won two Grammy Awards, one in 1992 for his performance of “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion and another in 1993 for “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle for “Aladdin.”

“A Whole New World” was so big back in the day that it dethroned Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 1993. Both songs also won Oscars for Best Original Song.

It isn’t clear when Peabo will be released from the hospital, but his doctors say he’s in stable condition.

UPDATE: John Singleton Has Died After Suffering Major Stroke

UPDATE: John Singleton Dies at 51 After Suffering Major Stroke & Spending 2 Weeks in ICU

Original story: John Singleton is still alive, but in a coma and nonresponsive. A representative for director gave a medical update on Monday morning (Apr. 29) following reports Singleton had died.

Via TMZ:

John’s publicist tells us the famed director is alive and on life support at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. We’re told John is still in a medically-induced coma and is non-responsive and not getting better.

Several other credible outlets are also reporting Singleton is still alive and fighting for his life.

False reports that Singleton had died apparently began after FOX4 film critic Shawn Edwards reported that the acclaimed director’s family had told him the directed had passed away.

Singleton, 51, has been in a medically induced coma for several days since suffering a massive stroke on April 17th. It’s been reported that he’s not expected to get better and family and friends have been informed to say their goodbyes.

Singleton’s mother, Sheila Ward, has reportedly requested to be his legal conservator.

However, Singleton’s daughter, Cleopatra, stated that her father was only medically sedated, not in a coma, and is “getting better every day.”

She went on to claim that her grandmother (Ward) only wanted to take control of Singleton’s assets and freeze out his four children.

John Singleton is the first African-American to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director.

He is best known for his films Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice, and Baby Boy. His television show Snowfall was just renewed for a third season.

One Person Dead, Six Injured in Mass Shooting Near Baltimore Church

Seven people were shot Sunday (Apr. 28) near a church in Baltimore, Maryland.

Police said one of the seven people shot died, but it wasn’t clear the extent of the injuries of the six people who were wounded, WJZ 13 (a CBS affiliate in Baltimore) reports.

First responders reportedly found the victims on the 2500 block of Edmondson Ave. outside Buster’s Place Barber Shop where the cookout was being held.

Alabama Man Arrested After Viral Video Shows Shootout at Highland Village Apartments in Montgomery

Police in Montgomery, Alabama arrested a man in connection with a shooting that happened Saturday night (Apr. 27) at an apartment complex and was shown in a video that went viral on Facebook.

According to the Alabama News Network, 20-year-old Kennedy Wilson was arrested and charged with first-degree assault for the shooting in the 1000 block of Day Street Road, near Highland Village Apartments in Montgomery.

A video shared on Facebook Sunday morning showing the moment the shooting unfolded quickly went viral on social media.

https://www.facebook.com/georgetta.thomas/videos/10214435727548504/

The 3-minute clip opens with sounds of gunfire as people on opposite sides of the street shoot at each other. Innocent bystanders can be heard screaming as they attempt to run to safety.

A man driving a green van can also be seen trying to flee from police after an officer draws his gun and points it at the vehicle ordering him to stop.

The man eventually gets out of the vehicle and makes a run for it after standstill traffic stops his attempt to drive away. It’s unclear if that man is Kennedy Wilson, the man who was arrested.

The end of the video, which has more than 1 million views, shows a man across the street who was hit in the gunfire being tended to by friends/family members.

The video’s caption reads: “Highland village….It was a war zone out there yesterday Montgomery, Al”

Police said the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. during a party. One man was wounded (as seen in the footage), but his injuries weren’t considered life threatening, police said.

Kennedy Wilson is being held at the Montgomery County Jail on a $30,000 bond, arrest records show.

Montgomery Police Captain Regina Duckett told WSFA 12 News that Wilson was taken into custody at the scene. She said he was booked in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on Sunday (Apr. 28).

John Singleton Not Expected to Recover From Stroke, Family & Friends Told to Say Their Goodbyes

John Singleton’s family and friends have reportedly been informed that the legendary filmmaker is not expected to recover after suffering a stroke while hospitalized earlier this month.

There have been conflicting reports about Singleton’s condition, with his mother and daughter each issuing completely different statements about whether or not he’s in a coma.

PREVIOUSLY: John Singleton’s Daughter Says Her Grandma is Up to No Good, Plus He’s NOT in a Coma & is Getting Better Every Day

Cleopatra Singleton recently filed court documents claiming that, contrary to what her grandmother (Singleton’s mother) said, her father isn’t in a coma and is “getting better every day.”

RELATED: John Singleton’s Mom Asks Judge to Appoint Her His Conservator

Cleopatra said John is breathing on his own, but is currently medically sedated. She said his condition was improving so well that he could be out of the ICU sometime this week.

But LoveBScott.com (who first broke the news about Singleton’s stroke) reports that John is definitely comatose, and his loved ones have been told to “make peace with him” as doctors don’t believe he will pull through.

Sad prognosis aside … miracles do happen. Doctors said the same thing about Lamar Odom and he made a full recovery. So keep praying because it’s not over until God says so.

#TheMarathonContinues: Nipsey Hussle Fans Come Together to Restore Vandalized Mural in Connecticut

A teen girl went viral on social media over the weekend after she defaced a Nipsey Hussle mural in Hartford, Connecticut, and people were understandably pissed about the blatant disrespect.

But less than 24 hours later, Nipsey fans came together to restore the mural honoring the slain rapper.

According to The Shade Room, at least 25 people came together to help fix the vandalized mural in the rain.

Two women in particular, Deja Robertson and her mother, and a man named Joey, reportedly painted over the graffiti and touched up the paint.

Posted by Lee Benton on Sunday, April 28, 2019

“Nipsey didn’t just mean a lot to my community but to all urban communities around America,” said Lee Benton, one of the community members who helped fix the mural. “He preached black excellence, change and he empowered every person around every hood to find their purpose. A person like that should be celebrated forever in my opinion.”

The girl seen on the video vandalizing Nipsey’s mural, who goes by the name “Savage Kay Kay” on Facebook (her profile has since been deactivated) reportedly did so because she was mad at her boyfriend, but fans on social media called her out, saying she did it for clout.

Benton, Robertson and the other people who teamed up to fix the mural said it’s all about spreading love and positivity.

“My mother, Joey and I didn’t do this for clout chasing. It came from the heart,” Robertson said. “Life is too short. I’ve lost all my family and I will continue to stay positive and share my positivity with other people. All I want is for Hartford to come together as one and stop the violence.”

Posted by Deja Robertson on Sunday, April 28, 2019

According to the Hartford Courant, the Nipsey Hussle mural was painted earlier this month by local artist Corey Pane.

“I always respected him more as a person than even his music and I just wanted to honor that,” Pane said after finishing the mural at Heaven skate part in Hartford.

Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed on March 31st outside his The Marathon clothing store in Los Angeles’ Crenshaw neighborhood.

Eric Holder, a 29-year-old man who had confronted Hussle earlier in the day, was arrested and charged with Hussle’s murder on April 2nd, and he pleaded not guilty.

NY Giants Draft Pick Corey Ballentine Injured in Shooting, Friend & Former Teammate Killed

On Saturday afternoon (Apr. 27), Corey Ballentine was selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft—a major accomplishment for a player from a Division II school in Topeka, Kansas.

Early the next morning, Ballentine and a close friend and former teammate on the Washburn University football team were involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Dwane Simmons and a gunshot injury to Ballentine.

Ballentine’s injury was considered to be non-life threatening and he’s expected to make a full recovery.

According to Topeka’s WIBW 13 News, officers responded Sunday around 12:45 a.m. to the 1400 block of 13th Street in Topeka on reports of gunfire. An officer on the scene confirmed that Simmons died in the street from a gunshot wound.

Later, authorities confirmed there was a second shooting victim, Ballentine, 23, who was taken to an area hospital.

The Giants said in a statement: “We are aware of the tragic situation and continue to gather information. We have spoken to Corey, and he is recovering in the hospital. Our thoughts are with Dwane Simmons’ family, friends and teammates and the rest of the Washburn community.”

In light of the shooting, a press conference at Washburn University for Ballentine to discuss getting drafted by the Giants that was scheduled for 3 p.m. was postponed.

Washburn University President Dr. Jerry Farley said in a statement to the campus community: “We come to you this morning with sad and difficult news. Early this morning two of our students were the victims of an off-campus shooting. Dwane Simmons, a junior and a member of the football team, was killed in the incident. In addition, Corey Ballentine, a senior, was injured. Ballentine is expected to make a full recovery.

“Any time we lose a student it is a sad occasion, but it is particularly poignant to lose a student through such a senseless act. Both Dwane and Corey have been great examples and representatives of the football team and of Washburn University in general. This was a terrible way to end a day which should have been a day of celebration and a day to look forward to Dwane’s upcoming year at Washburn and the beginning of Corey’s professional career.”

Corey Ballentine, a cornerback, was the 180th player selected in the NFL draft.

“It was surreal,” he said Saturday after receiving the call from the Giants. “I’m sure you have heard it a lot, but this is something I have always dreamed of. It took me back to the moment when I got recruited to college and I told my coaches this is something I wanted to do, I wanted to go to the NFL.”

He continued: “We were all kind of giggling and here the moment is, I’m getting the call from the New York Giants. It’s just surreal because I didn’t know how I was going to do it, I know I wanted to do it, I just didn’t know how. Now that the moment is here, I’m trying to soak it in, really.”

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman explained why he picked a player from a small school.

“Corey Ballentine, he’s 5’10, he’s 196 pounds, he runs 4.44, plays 4.44. He’s got ball skills, he’s played the nickel, he’s played outside,” Gettleman said. “How do you pass him up?”

Kyler Murray Makes History as First Athlete to Be a First Round Draft Pick in the NFL & MLB

It’s not easy making sports history, and it usually doesn’t happen until athletes are well into their careers. But for Kyler Murray, he’s already making history right out of the gate!

The Oklahoma Sooners quarterback was selected No. 1 overall by the Arizona Cardinals Thursday night (Apr. 25) in the first round of the NFL draft.

And in 2018, he was selected as the No. 9 overall MLB pick by the Oakland Athletics in the first round, which makes him the first athlete EVER to be selected in the first round of both the Major League Baseball and NFL draft.

When Murray was selected ninth in the 2018 MLB draft, he agreed to a deal that would allow him to finish playing college football at Oklahoma.

But after winning the Heisman Trophy back in December for the 2019 season, he decided to pursue an NFL career instead of playing baseball.

With more than 5,000 yards and over 50 touchdowns to his name, the choice may have seemed like an easy one for Kyler, but by choosing to play football, he forfeited a $4.66 million signing bonus offered by the MLB.

“It was definitely one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make,” Murray said of choosing football over baseball. “I believe I’m in the right place.”

Kyler did, however, sign a four-year, fully guaranteed $35 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, so he’s still winning, regardless.

“I can’t put it into words,” Murray said after being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. “It’s a dream come true… It’s surreal. I can’t wait to join my team and become the best ever to play this game.”

Donald Trump Calls Jussie Smollett a “3rd Rate Actor,” Says His Case Was a “Disgrace to Our Nation”

Donald Trump lashed out at “Empire” star Jussie Smollett at a rally Saturday (Apr. 27), calling him a “third-rate actor” and saying his legal trouble—in which he allegedly lied about Trump supporters attacking him in a hate crime—was a “disgrace to our nation.”

“We may have the greatest theme in the history of politics: It’s called Make America Great Again. MAGA. It’s called MAGA country,” Trump told his supporters in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

“You know, I didn’t hear that term until that third-rate actor in Chicago went out and he said, ‘I was beaten up by MAGA Country.’ Can you believe that?” he continued.

“Now, that’s a hate crime, right? He said he was beaten up by MAGA country,” Trump added. “Turned out to be a total lie, but think of it. MAGA. Make America Great Again,” he said.

Jussie’s case received national attention after the “Empire,” who is openly gay and black, said he was attacked on January 31st by masked men who shouted “This is MAGA country!” and poured bleach on him.

In March, Smollett was accused of faking the assault and was indicted by a grand jury on 16 felony charges, but Cook County prosecutors later dropped the case while maintaining that they still believed he lied about the attack.

Text messages later surfaced in which Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx referred to Smollett as a “washed up celeb who lied to cops,” echoing Trump’s sentiments.

The City of Chicago later sued Smollett after he refused to reimburse them $130K to cover the costs of their investigation into his alleged attack.

Smollett’s alleged assailants, brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo, also filed a defamation suit against Smollett’s lawyers for continuing to accuse them of perpetuating a homophobic and racist attack.

Trump made it a point to note that he wasn’t pleased with how the City of Chicago handled Jussie’s case.

“And by the way, I have to tell you that case in Chicago was a disgrace to our nation,” he said. “A disgrace.”

R. Kelly Says He Lost His Sexual Abuse Case Because He Can’t Read & He Wants a Retrial

R. Kelly took an L in court this week, and he’s asking the judge to dismiss the case because he can’t read and therefore did not understand what was going on when he was served in jail.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the singer’s attorneys claim that even though he was served in his civil sexual assault case with Heather Williams, he was in Cook County Jail at the time for failing to pay child support, and he shouldn’t have been served there in the first place.

Kelly’s lawyers claim that the papers could have, and should have, been delivered to Kelly’s criminal lawyer in Trump Tower in Chicago where he lives.

Williams’ lawyer said security at Kelly’s residence made that difficult, however, Kelly’s attorneys say that’s not true.

The paperwork also claims that Kelly “suffers from a learning disability that adversely affects his ability to read,” adding … “in essence he cannot.”

In other words, Kelly was clueless about what was going on at the time he was served (because he couldn’t read the paperwork), so he failed to take appropriate action to properly defend himself against the allegations.

Heather Williams filed the civil suit back in February. She admitted she was “starstruck” when she met R. Kelly in May 1998 when she was 16 years old, and said Kelly asked her to come to his studio and appear in one of his videos.

Williams said the in June, Kelly started sexually abusing her. Without going into explicit details about what happened, she did say that she and the singer had sexual intercourse and oral sex.

Heather said the alleged sexual abuse continued until she became an adult.

She said she’s suffered shame, guilt, self-blame and depression as a result of the alleged abuse, and she was seeking $50,000 in her lawsuit, which she won by default because Kelly simply didn’t show up to court.

Now Kelly’s legal team is asking the court to vacate the default judgment so that they can properly build a defense.

Too Far? Chris Rock Slammed for “Cheap” & “Tasteless” Joke About Whitney Houston Smoking Crack

Chris Rock pissed a lot of people off on social media today after he made a joke about Whitney Houston’s alleged drug abuse.

Rock took to Instagram Saturday (Apr. 27) and shared a meme featuring Houston wearing sunglasses and looking to be completely over it during a sit-down interview.

The meme itself isn’t what sparked the backlash though … it was what he put in the caption.

“Hurry up I got crack to smoke,” he wrote.

Fans bombarded his comments saying that the joke was tasteless and asking him to take it down. After 9 hours, the photo still remains on his Instagram. (Update: Rock has since deleted the post.)

“Tasteless and cheap joke. You should know better,” one person wrote. “This is how you speak on the dead? Make better content,” quipped another.

Another person wrote: “That was too low my brother. Take this down. I am extremely offended. Respect the legend.”

Someone else commented: “I was cracking up at the meme till I read your crack comment… I f**k with you but that was some lame sh*t. Seriously bro, you are a comedic genius. But you’re also a husband, a father, a brother, and a son. Most importantly, you’re a black MAN that a lot of people look up to. The sister Whitney Houston and those that love her don’t deserve that.”

Others called Rock’s post “bogus,” “terrible,” and “trash.”

Of course, there were people who rushed to Rock’s defense, saying that he’s just doing what comedians do.

“Comedy has no filter. Go cry elsewhere people,” one fan wrote. “F**k y’all. This. Is. Hilarious,” shared another.

The comedian has yet to comment on the backlash.

California Synagogue Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 3 Injured; 19-Year-Old Suspect Taken Into Custody

A shooting at a Southern California synagogue Saturday (Apr. 27) left at least one person dead and several others injuries, police said.

The incident, believed to be a hate crime, took place at the Chabad Poway synagogue around 11:30 a.m. local time, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s Poway station said on Twitter.

One woman died from her injuries, the sheriff’s dept. said in a news conference, and at least three others—two men and a female juvenile —were injured, but they are all in stable condition.

Authorities said the shooting suspect, a 19-year-old white male, has been taken into custody for questioning.

Police said the shooter was armed with an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle.

An armed off-duty Border Patrol agent who was inside the synagogue returned fire and injured the suspect, who then retreated in a vehicle before surrendering to police without incident, police said.

The suspect’s identity was not released, and authorities did not discuss a possible motive for the shooting.

During a news conference Saturday afternoon, investigators referenced social media posts from the suspect and an open letter attributed to him, but they didn’t elaborate on their contents.

Speaking to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House, President Donald Trump said the shooting “looks like a hate crime” and he promised to “get to the bottom of it.”

Saturday marked the last day of Passover, and according to an event announcement, Chabad of Poway was celebrating a “Passover Holiday Celebration” at the time of the shooting. The event was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and end at 7 p.m. after a final Passover meal.

Chabad of Poway said about the celebration on Facebook: “Experience the Priestly blessing during the prayer service.” The flyer also said there would be a “Yizkor Memorial Service” and a “Final Holiday Meal with Matzah, Wine and Appetizers.”

The Chabad of Poway added: “The Seder celebrates our past redemption, while the final meal is celebrated in anticipation of Moshiach and the coming redemption.”

Happy Last Days of Passover!

“It’s a very important celebration for us. There’s lots of people inside, they’re praying,’ Minoo Anvari a member of the congregation told NBC 7. “Everybody was crying and screaming.”

Anvari said her husband was inside during the shooting, and he told her someone came in, started cursing and then opened fire. It’s believed the man fired between 12 and 14 shots.

Local authorities said the synagogue’s rabbi, Yisroel Goldstein, who founded the Chabad center in 1986, is one of the injured victims. He reportedly lost three fingers as a result of the shooting.

Witnesses said that even after being shot, Rabbi Goldstein tried to calm the shooter and called for unity and prayer among the congregation.

“Rabbi said, ‘We are united,'” said Anvari, who is a refugee from Iran. “This is something bad (that) is happening all over. And we have to believe that this bad thing is real and we don’t have to ignore it. We have to open our eyes. He prayed for peace. I respect him—even in spite of being injured he refused to go to the hospital and he spoke. And he finished his speech and he then left the synagogue.”

According to its website, “Chabad of Poway has become a popular center for Jews of all backgrounds who want to learn more about their Jewish roots. Chabad offers a wide variety of educational and spiritual opportunities, including Torah classes and lectures, Shabbaton dinners, and an array of family and social activities. Traditional Jewish values are brought to life in a joyous, non-judgmental atmosphere.”

The website adds: “Chabad serves all segments of the Jewish community. Everyone is welcome regardless of their personal level of religious observance. The philosophy is in keeping with the Chabad-Lubavitch approach of joy, scholarship and unconditional acceptance and love for every Jew. The services are traditional and are conducted in a joyous, casual atmosphere. Children are included and most welcome. Many of those who attend cannot read Hebrew, yet everyone feels at home.”

Saturday’s shooting occurred exactly six months to the day a gunman opened fire at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, killing 11 worshippers and wounding several others, including police officers.

The accused shooter in that massing shooting, who investigators said was motivated by his anti-Semitic views (he shouted “All Jews need to die!” before opening fire), was arrested.

“Boyz N the Hood” Actor Jessie Lawrence Ferguson Dead at 76

Jessie Lawrence Ferguson, the actor who played the dirty cop in “Boyz n the Hood,” has died at the age of 76.

TMZ reports:

Jessie’s son, Jace, tells us … he died Friday night at their home in Palmdale, California. Jace says he found his dad next to his bed with the TV on, and it comes as a shock because he was spry and seemed healthy in the days leading up to his death.

Jace says, “He was a strong, beautiful intelligent black man and he wanted the best for his son and all people.”

Law enforcement tells us it was a natural death, nothing suspicious. We do not know the cause of death.

Jessie Ferguson appeared in a number of movies, including “The Chosen One,” “The Presidio” and “Prince of Darkness,” but he’s best known for his role as the racist black cop in “Boyz N the Hood.”

In this scene, Jessie’s character, Officer Coffey, puts a gun to Cuba Gooding Jr.’s character’s throat and says to him: “You think you’re tough? I could blow your head off right now. That’s why I took this job.”

Ferguson’s passing coincidentally comes as John Singleton, the famed director of “Boyz N the Hood,” is reportedly in a medically-induced coma at Cedars-Sinai Medical center in Los Angeles after suffering a stroke last week. He’s been in the ICU for ten days so far.

Man Badly Beaten Outside Movie Theater After Shouting “Avengers: Endgame” Spoilers to Fans Waiting in Line

A man was reportedly left bloodied after getting badly beaten outside a movie theater after he loudly revealed the surprise ending to “Avengers: Endgame.”

According to reports, the incident happened outside a cinema in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

A photo of a man sitting on the ground bloodied and receiving medical attention has gone viral online.

“Avengers: Endgame”—which is the sequel to “Avengers: Infinity War” and is the culmination of 21 feature films and 11 years of production—officially opened in theaters worldwide this weekend, but was screened early on April 24th in countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.

Taiwanese media reports (via Asia One) that a man who seemed to have just exited the cinema after watching the three-hour movie started shouting out spoilers to fans lined up outside who were waiting their turn to see the final Avengers film for themselves.

The moviegoers, enraged that what is believed to be the last movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was spoiled for them, then reportedly brutally assaulted the man to teach him a lesson about leaking spoilers, leaving him bloodied on the ground as medics came to his aid.

Those who commented on the now viral photo reportedly said things like “He got what he deserved” and that they were “Happy to see this.”

Of course, there were people who questioned the authenticity of the incident and the photo, but commenters on social media claimed that they were there when it happened, and they heard someone spoiling the plot of the film at the entrance to the movie theater.

After five minutes of “Endgame” was reportedly leaked online earlier this week, The Russo Brothers, who directed the highly anticipated film, penned an open letter to fans asking them not to spoil the movie for others.

“This is it. This is the end. The end of an unprecedented narrative mosaic spanning eleven years and eleven franchises,” Anthony and Joseph Russo wrote. “when you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it spoiled for you.”

The pair signed off the letter and wrote a hashtag at the bottom: #DontSpoilTheEndGame.
