For those of you who thought that once a black man was freed from the clutches of the Kardashian Klan he was never looking back, think again.
In new highlights and excerpts from his upcoming book, Lamar Odom is unabashedly begging for Khloe’s forgiveness and admits that he cheated on her rampantly and abused drugs incessantly, according to People.
In his new memoir, Darkness to Light — exclusively excerpted in PEOPLE — Odom reveals the truth about his marriage to Kardashian, which was chronicled on Keeping up with the Kardashians and on their spinoff series, Khloe? and Lamar.
“I wish I could have been more of a man,” Odom, who admits that he was unfaithful to Kardashian and also hid from her his addiction to cocaine, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “It still bothers me to this day. But regret is something we have to learn to live with.”
[…]
“I could not handle the lethal cocktail of the spotlight, addiction, a diminishing career and infidelity,” he writes. “Oh, did I mention the paranoia, anxiety, depression. … I couldn’t keep my d— in my pants or the coke out of my nose. Drug addicts are incredibly skilled at hiding their habit. I’d get defensive and Khloe would just drop it.”
[…]
Now, Odom is drug-free, but admits he still struggles with his demons.
When it comes to Kardashian, “I hope we can be friends,” Odom says. “I miss the family. And I hope we can all be reacquainted one day.”
Good on Lamar for being honest about his substance abuse problems, but wow at him still wanting to reconnect with the Kardashian Klan.
To be honest, given what Tristan Thompson just put Khloe through, Lamar’s standing with the Kardashian/Jenner crew probably has bumped up a few points.
But if he’s looking for someone in the family to kick it with and hang out and reminisce on the good ole times, I’m fairly sure Caitlyn Jenner’s schedule is wide open.
Mo’Nique, our problematic auntie, is back at it again. Comments the legendary comedian made about monogamy during a stand-up routine made some in the audience feel some type of way.
Vlogger Paris Milan recently went to one of Mo’Nique’s shows and shared her thoughts in a YouTube video.
Off the bat, the 25-year-old knew there was going to be a generational divide with Mo’Nique’s brand of humor. Even so, she was still taken aback by the relationship advice the Queen of Comedy shared to the women in the audience.
According Milan, the comedian was very serious when she said that black women should allow their men to have side chicks because the concept of black men being monogamous was created out of white supremacy and is an unrealistic expectation.
“I’m like, ‘What?!'” Milan said. “What she was saying, to me, was so destructive to black women.”
Milan also took issue with Mo’Nique constantly using the word “bitch” to refer to black women, while calling black men “kings” that need to be catered to, praised and honored.
“Her vulgarity towards black women was something … like she comes across as extremely male-identified to a fault,” Milan said.
“Why is that when you’re talking about black men, you’re like ‘I love my brothas … ‘y’all gotta support my brothas,’ and ‘brothas’ this and ‘love brothas’ and ‘do this for them’ and when you’re talking about black women it’s like ‘You B’s’,” Milan wondered.
Though her talent is undeniable, none of this is really new for Mo’Nique. For most (if not all) of her career, she has made such statements about black men and black women.
She has also made her views about monogamy known and is very public about having an open relationship with her husband, Sidney Hicks.
With that being said, it’s still no surprise that Mo’Nique’s controversial style of stand-up is still making audiences squirm.
Wendy Williams continues to sever ties with Kevin Hunter. And that includes shutting down her philanthropic organization, The Hunter Foundation.
Wendy kicked off today’s broadcast (May 13) of her talk show by officially announcing the dissolution of The Hunter Foundation, which was dedicated to providing resources and support for drug addiction, rehabilitation, education, and prevention.
“Wendy Williams has been, and remains, committed to helping others in the struggles of life,” she read from the official statement. “While accepting her new reality, many things in her life have changed including the dissolution of The Hunter Foundation. Wendy’s giving spirit will continue through her work with other foundations. Thank you.”
Wendy told her studio audience that the written announcement was scheduled to be released later this week, but news outlets called on Monday and Tuesday for a comment regarding the matter. The host decided to share the news live on-air.
Wendy and Hunter founded the organization in 2014. A source tells Page Six Wendy decided to close the foundation because “she no longer wants to be associated with [her] estranged husband.”
While Wendy was living in a sober house for her own substance abuse, in March, The Hunter Foundation launched a 24-hour substance abuse hotline in partnership with T.R.U.S.T., a program for longtime recovery.
“If you’re an addict or a substance abuser don’t be ashamed,” Wendy said in a PSA for the hotline. “Help is here for you, or a family member, or a loved one. Call, don’t be ashamed. There is hope. I’m living proof.”
It’s unclear what will happen with the hotline and the employees of the foundation.
Since announcing her divorce in April, Wendy has also severed business ties with her husband of two decades. She fired him as her manager and also removed him as an executive producer of her talk show.
A Utah mom is suing a former bus driver for his “racial animus” towards mixed-race students. And you’ll never guess why the bus driver says he’s not racist.
Brenda Mayes has filed a civil rights lawsuit against 78-year-old John Naisbitt after Naisbitt closed the school bus doors on her 14-year-old biracial son and proceeded to drag him for approximately 150-175 feet.
The February incident was caught on the bus camera. Mayes’ son—identified as Child Doe in the lawsuit—is seen exiting the school bus and Naisbitt closes the doors on Doe’s backpack. Naisbitt drives off between 7 and 10 miles per hour for 17 seconds as Doe is dangling outside.
“Had the straps on child Does’ backpack broken,” the lawsuit states, “Doe would have dropped to the pavement and could have been run over and killed by the bus or could have sustained serious injuries by the fall onto the concrete.”
“I couldn’t even comprehend how it could happen,” Mayes told FOX13. “I was glad he didn’t kill him. I was glad he didn’t go under the wheel.”
“Not at all. No. Look at my dog. He”s as black as could be.”
“I didn’t see him in there,” Naisbitt continued, even though video footage shows a line of students also waiting to get off the bus. “If I had, I would have stopped.”
Naisbitt says he believes the 14-year-old “staged” the incident after he disciplined the boy’s brother.
However, according to the lawsuit, this is not the first time Naisbitt has been accused of racial bias.
In 2017, Naisbitt failed to stop a white boy from assaulting an Asian girl. Mayes alleges that her son had to “stop the assault.”
And in 2018, Naisbitt “intentionally closed the doors” on a mixed-race boy entering the bus. After releasing the boy, he attempted to do the same thing to another mixed-race boy who was directly behind the first student.
Naisbitt “denied even knowing” the first boy after being confronted by the child’s father. The lawsuit also alleges Naisbitt parked outside of the father’s place of employment to “intimidate” or “retaliate” after the parent reported him.
Mayes says the Davis School District failed to address the previous incidents and did not take proper action after her son was dragged by the bus driver. She is also suing the school district and its transportation director, Dave Roberts.
“Something failed,” Mayes said. “They have a responsibility when I send [my kids] off to school, they have a responsibility to make sure they are safe.”
Davis School District spokeswoman Shauna Lund says the district does not tolerate discrimination. She said in a statement:
“When issues of discrimination are raised at any time, they are investigated thoroughly. The Davis School District takes any claims of racial discrimination seriously and does not tolerate any form of racial discrimination in our schools.”
Mayes is seeking criminal charges against Naisbitt and unspecified damages for her son.
Naisbitt retired three days after the incident involving Child Doe, before being fired or facing any disciplinary action by the school district.
The actor who allegedly choked Paris Jackson last year and accused Seth Green and Steven Spielberg of pedophilia has tragically jumped to his death.
Isaac Kappy died by suicide after jumping off a bridge in Bellemont, Arizona and onto Interstate 40 on May 13th. Upon jumping, he was hit by a Ford pick-up truck. He was 42.
Two teen passersby pulled over and attempted to physically restrain Kappy from jumping, but were unable to do so. No one else was hurt in the incident.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety released Kappy’s name as the jumper on Tuesday (May 14).
“We don’t know why Mr. Kappy took his own life,” Bart Graves, spokesperson for the department, said in a statement.
Just one day before his death, Kappy scrubbed his Instagram account and posted a lengthy ominous note.
“Beware the man that has nothing to lose, for he has nothing to protect,” he captioned the post.
Kappy wrote in part:
“Over the course of the last week, through introspection that should have happened MANY years ago, I have come to some stark revelations about my character. It is a testament to my utter ignorance that these revelations had not come sooner. You see, I believed myself to be a good guy. I HAVE NOT been a good guy. In fact, I have been a pretty bad guy throughout my life.”
He writes that he recently committed a “flippant” act that will be seen as “petty, vile greed and in the end, has cost me everything.” Though he didn’t reveal the act, it may give insight into what pushed him over the edge.
Without naming names, he also apologized to people he felt he had wronged. “To the many people I have acted abusively towards, I am very, very sorry,” he wrote.
“To my former friends I have used and betrayed, I am sorry. To those I have deceived, I am sorry, although I must say, in my sheer arrogance, I did not even realize that I had been the bad actor all along.”
The troubling note continued with Kappy comparing himself to Judas and apologizing to President Trump and Jesus for betraying them.
“I have recently been made to believe that I am the reincarnation of Judas Iscariot, the great betrayer,” he wrote.
Last year, Kappy was accused of choking Paris Jackson during a game party. Jackson increased security following the incident, but initially continued to respond to Kappy’s text messages because she believed he was suicidal at the time.
An Indonesian man who claimed to be 146 years old when he died may have been the longest living person in recorded human history.
According to a report by the BBC, a man named Sodimedjo—who also went by the names Mbah Ghoto and Grandpa Ghoto—passed away at his home in Central Java, Indonesia around May 1st, 2017.
Official paperwork states that Ghoto was born in December 1870, but because Indonesia only started recording births in 1900, his documentation is difficult to verify.
Officials spoke with the BBC, however, saying that they were able to cross-reference some of his documents and conduct interviews with Ghoto, and everything appeared to check out.
Ghoto was reportedly known as a great storyteller in his village, where he lived with his family. Locals would often listen to him tell stories of previous wars against Japan and Dutch colonizers.
Ghoto also reportedly outlived four wives and all of his children, as well as his 10 siblings.
He told the BBC he had “a long life because I have people that love me looking after me.”
Ghoto was hospitalized in April 2017 after his health started deteriorating. Six days later, he reportedly insisted on checking himself out because he wanted to go home.
“Since he came back from the hospital, he only ate spoonfuls of porridge and drank very little,” his grandson Suryanto told the BBC. “It only lasted a couple of days. From that moment on to his death, he refused to eat and drink.”
Ghoto’s grandson said Ghoto was buried in a local cemetery plot he purchased several years ago, and a tombstone that had sat beside his house for a number of years was placed above his grave.
“He didn’t ask much. Before he died, he just wanted us, his family, to let him go,” Suryanto said.
While Ghoto’s age still has yet to be independently verified, his story, so far, hasn’t been completely discounted.
If a third party is able to confirm Ghoto was really 146 years old at the time of his death, he will surpass the current world-record holder, French centenarian Jeanne Calment, who was 122 when she died.
As a number of lawmakers pass bills banning legal abortions in certain states, Alyssa Milano has proposed a sex strike in response to the attack on women’s rights.
Recently, Georgia passed a law restricting abortions in the state called the “heartbeat bill,” sparking a lot of backlash from women in the state and all over the country.
And instead of just talking about it, Alyssa Milano wants women to be about it, and her idea to help change lawmakers’ minds is basically for women to stop having sex with men altogether.
“Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy,” she tweeted on Friday, May 10th. “JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on.”
Our reproductive rights are being erased.
Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy.
JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back.
While some women were down like Charlie Brown with the idea, a lot of them were critical of it, saying that the proposed strike assumed sex is only enjoyed by men and suggested that women’s bodies are commodities that can be denied to men as punishment.
Some people also pointed out that the sex strike ignores LGBTQ people and doesn’t consider the possibility of sexual violence.
Others said that instead of withholding sex from men, women should make sure they are putting officials in office who will fight for their rights.
“A #SexStrike won’t bring back our rights—voting, supporting women candidates, running for office, and fighting like hell will,” wrote Shannon Watts, an author and the founder of Moms Demand Action.
Watts added: “A #SexStrike also gives the impression that the primary function of a woman is as a body for heterosexual men to have sex with.”
Journalist Jessica Valenti wrote: “The idea of a #SexStrike—where sex is something men seek and women withhold—is the same regressive model of sexuality that Republican men use to legislate! No thanks.”
Milano didn’t back down and stuck to her guns, tweeting that she women don’t have boycott ALL forms of sex … just sex with penises.
“We can LOVE sex and fight for our bodily autonomy. There are lots of alternatives to cis men,” she said. “Protect your vaginas, ladies. Men in positions of power are trying to legislate them.”
We can LOVE sex and fight for our bodily autonomy. There are lots of alternatives to cis men.
Georgia is the fourth state to pass a six-week abortion ban this year, and is one of 16 states working to pass similar legislation.
While none of these bans have yet to take effect and will no doubt be challenged in court, they are part of a dangerous trend.
Georgia’s controversial heartbeat bill bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can happen as early as six weeks into a pregnancy and doesn’t give most women time to make a decision because they most likely wouldn’t even know they’re pregnant yet.
The bill also includes a penalty of up to 10 years in prison for those who perform abortions, but doesn’t explicitly exempt women who perform their own abortions via drugs, leading to speculation about whether they’d also face criminal charges.
Some experts have even suggested that it could lead to second-degree murder charges (penalty: 10-30 years in prison) for women who cause their own miscarriage from drinking or drugs, and women who seek out an illegal abortion could be charged as a party to a murder (penalty: life in prison).
The bill would also make it illegal for women to travel out of state for an abortion because that would be considered conspiracy to commit murder, which has a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Thanks to a very strategic deal Beyoncé made with Uber a number of years ago, Mrs. Carter-Knowles is now $300 million richer after the company went public and filed for one of the biggest tech IPOs in several years.
Back in 2015, Beyoncé was offered $6 million to perform for a corporate Uber event in Los Angeles. But instead of taking cash, Queen Bey asked to be paid in equity, and now her Uber stock is worth $300 million.
So, in other words, Beyoncé just made $300 million from a 30-60 minute performance she did four years ago. Now that’s what you call a bag.
The Queen wasn’t playing when she said “Put some respeck on my check … or pay me in equity” on Apesh*t. She really is about that “pay me in equity” life.
Uber officially went public on the New York Stock Exchange last Friday (May 10) with an $8.1 billion IPO, and shares initially went for $45 each, marking one of the biggest tech IPOs in recent history.
Beyoncé wasn’t the only celebrity who was able to get their hands on Uber stock before the general public.
More early investors for Uber include celebs like Ashton Kutcher (who invested way back in 2011), Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z, Bey’s BFF Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn and Leonardo Dicaprio.
Those who have been following Beyoncé closely over the past few years shouldn’t be surprised at her business acumen.
After raking in $8 million from her two Coachella performances in 2018, Beyoncé inked a $60 million Netflix deal in which she will produce three films, the first being the Beychella documentary Homecoming, which was released last month and received rave reviews.
44-year-old Pamela Turner was walking to her apartment when an officer attempted to arrest her for outstanding warrants. The two began to struggle and the officer deployed his Taser. Turner somehow got ahold of the Taser and Tased the officer.
The officer then drew his gun and proceeded to shoot multiple rounds while standing over Turner as she lay on the ground.
In cellphone footage of the incident, just moments before being shot to death, Turner yelled: “I’m pregnant!”
The officer performed CPR on Turner, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.
In an effort to defend the officer’s deadly actions, Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris claimed that the officer—whose name has not been released—feared for his life because Turner Tased him (which was exactly what he was trying to do to her).
“Our officer was tased, and you have to understand what a Taser is. It’s a weapon designed to incapacitate people. The question is: ‘Was the officer in fear for his life?’ I think a logical person would say yes,” Dorris said.
An eyewitness captured the shooting on video and it was shared online, going viral on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Dorris seemed to take more issue with the video going viral than the fact that a 44-year-old mother was just shot and killed.
“It’s unfortunate that somebody takes a tragic incident like this and posts it on social media,” said Dorris. “It’s extremely disrespectful for everybody involved, but that’s the day and age we live in with social media.”
Due to “prior dealings” with Turner, the officer knew there were outstanding arrest warrants against her. Court records show Turner had two warrants for criminal mischief and one for assault resulting in bodily harm.
Turner’s sister Antoinette said that she had a history of mental illness and was currently taking medication for schizophrenia.
However, neighbors told reporters that she was not a threat.
“Sometimes you would see her, you know, get into it with people around the apartments, but nothing too, you know, bad,” Raquel Cuellar said. “It’s just, you know, just typical her. She’s not a bad person. She didn’t hurt nobody.”
Turner was often seen walking her dog.
“She would walk her dog. That’s all she did was walk her dog and pick up trash,” said neighbor Jonathan Little. “She didn’t mess with anybody. It was just her and her dog.”
Antoinette also said that her sister was NOT pregnant as she had claimed just before being shot. Police also said an autopsy confirmed that Turner was not pregnant.
Turner did have two children, both in their 20s. She also had three grandchildren.
Interestingly, Antoinette claims the officer who shot her sister was also one of her neighbors. Turner allegedly had previously claimed the officer/neighbor was harassing her. However, this has yet to be confirmed by other sources.
The officer who shot Turner is an 11-year veteran and has been placed on administrative leave while police investigate the matter.
Police confirmed that he was wearing a body cam during the incident, but that footage is unlikely to be released to the public.
A community activist and spokesperson speaking on behalf of the family of Maleah Davis—the missing 4-year-old girl from Houston, Texas—revealed graphic details about what allegedly happened to the child at the hands of her mother’s fiancé.
“Many people did not know that he had dismembered this beautiful baby,” community activist Quanell X told Houston CBS affiliate KHOU, referring to 26-year-old Derion Vence. “There was blood spatter evidence around the drainage area of the house. Why would human body tissue be in the drain system?”
While police haven’t confirmed whether or not Quanell’s statement holds any truth, Vence, who told police that Maleah was randomly abducted by a group of Hispanic men on May 3rd, was arrested Saturday (May 11) and is currently in jail on $1 million bond on suspicion of tampering with evidence.
The “evidence” in this case is a human corpse, though police have not confirmed whether Maleah’s body has been found. Maleah remains missing and hasn’t been seen in nearly two weeks, though at this point, it is believed that she is deceased.
Houston police said blood evidence found in Vence’s apartment was linked to Maleah, and on top of that, Vence was seen on security cameras leaving his apartment with his 1-year-old son carrying a laundry basket with a black trash bag inside.
Houston police added that the laundry basket was found along with a gas can in the trunk of the vehicle that Vence had reported stolen.
Police said two canine officers trained to sniff out the scent of dead bodies were brought to Vence’s car, and both dogs reacted to Vence’s trunk, indicating that they sense human decomposition inside the vehicle.
“Both of the dogs reacted to the trunk of the silver Nissan that the defendant had driven and that the blue laundry basket was recovered from, indicating that the dogs were responding to the scent of human decomposition in the vehicle,” Harris County prosecutor Pat Stayton said, per the Star Tribune.
Police also said they observed drops of blood in the hallway leading to the bathroom of Vence’s apartment and on various surfaces in the bathroom.
Vence told police that on the night of May 3rd, he was on his way to Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas with Maleah and his 1-year-old son to pick up Maleah’s mother, his fiancée, Brittany Bowens.
Vence said he pulled over on the highway to check his tires after hearing a popping noise while driving.
As Vence was checking his vehicle, he claims three Hispanic men driving a 2010 blue Chevrolet pickup truck pulled up, apparently offering to help.
Police said Vence told them he was ambushed by the men, with one of them hitting him across his head, and he lost consciousness.
Vence said the next thing he knew, he woke up on the side of another highway the next day around 6 p.m. on May 4th. He said his son was with him, but Maleah wasn’t, suggesting that the three Hispanic men had kidnapped the girl.
Vence said he then walked to the hospital to seek treatment for his and his son’s “injuries” and reported Maleah missing, while Bowens had another family member to pick her up from the airport when Vence and the kids didn’t arrive on time.
Doubts about Vence’s story quickly arose after police said he changed key details about what happened during Maleah’s alleged kidnapping multiple times.
“During the initial interview, the man’s story did change several times and some of what he told us just didn’t add up,” Sugar Land police spokesperson Doug Adolph said.
Police also said that security footage showed Vence being dropped off at the hospital, contradicting his story that he walked to the hospital with his toddler son.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Maleah’s mother, Brittany Bowens, believes Vence became angry after a confrontation he had with her the day before she left on a trip to Massachusetts for her father’s funeral.
According to Bowens’ attorney, Bowens asked Vence about nude pictures he allegedly sent to another person and he “snapped.”
Nipsey Hussle’s first baby mama Tanisha Asghedom was reportedly an emotional wreck Tuesday (May 14) when she appeared in court alongside Nipsey’s sister, Samantha Smith, and his brother, Blacc Sam for a hearing on the guardianship of her and Nipsey’s 10-year-old daughter Emani.
According to TMZ, Tanisha broke down crying when she saw her daughter for the FIRST TIME in what she said was MONTHS.
The courtroom was reportedly cleared for 20 minutes while Tanisha and Emani spent some alone time together.
The hearing was pushed back to Friday, which is when a final decision will be made about who will have primary custody of Emani and the financial support they will receive from Hussle’s estate, which is worth millions.
Nipsey’s sister Samantha filed documents requesting legal guardianship last month because, according to sources close to the family, she believes Tanisha is unable to properly care for her. She was denied temporary guardianship until a court hearing.
Nipsey primarily took care of Emani before he died, but Samantha says she helped raise the 10-year-old as well and in seeking legal guardianship “to ensure the continued stability for Emani and ensure that she will be able to maintain her current and ongoing relationship” with her father’s family.
Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, also filed a declaration in support of Samantha receiving guardianship of their niece.
Sam, meanwhile, is involved in another legal fight to take control of Nipsey’s estate, which includes about $2 million worth of assets.
Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed on March 31st outside his Marathon Clothing store in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Eric Holder, Hussle’s suspected killer, pled not guilty to murder charges in April, but he’ll need to find a new lawyer because Chris Darden quit the case after receiving a number of death threats from Hussle’s fans and supporters.
In yet another L for Steve Harvey this week, the man with many jobs has lost yet another paycheck and is being replaced by another white woman on television.
According to People, Melissa McCarthy will be taking over as host of NBC’s “Little Big Shots” when it returns this year, replacing Steve Harvey, who has hosted the show for the past seasons.
“Melissa’s just an incredible performer and incredible comedian,” NBC’s co-chairman of entertainment Paul Telegdy said in a statement, adding that the mother of two, 48, “will bring a completely fresh perspective to it.”
“Melissa is a strong creative force with her own ideas. Changes will be apparent,” Telegdy added.
Although an exact date for the series’ return has not been announced, the show will begin airing again at 8 p.m. on Sunday nights after the end of football season next winter.
The news comes not long after it was reported that Steve Harvey’s daytime talk show Steve had been canceled by NBC after seven years with the network.
In place of Steve’s talk show, NBC will air Kelly Clarkson’s new daytime show The Kelly Clarkson Show.
That makes two white women in a row that have replaced Steve Harvey on television. What’s next? Amy Schumer’s gonna take his Family Feud gig too?
NBA Youngboy and his crew were reportedly involved in a shooting in Miami on Mother’s Day that resulted in at least one injury and one fatality.
Details are unclear at the moment, but online reports state that someone opened fire on NBA Youngboy and his crew outside the Trump Hotel in Sunny Isles, Florida (near Miami).
According to some witnesses on the scene, Youngboy was targeted in a drive-by shooting, while others state that the shots were fired during a road rage altercation.
Video of the aftermath shows a frantic scene as people rush to tend to the alleged victims.
Reports are saying NBA Youngboy was shot at and his girlfriend got hit then his bodyguard may have killed the shooter. Here is police responding to the scene pic.twitter.com/HzofZpN0LX
Though unconfirmed, a teen girl who was with Youngboy said to be the rapper’s girlfriend Kay Marie was reportedly hit in the shooting, and the rapper’s bodyguard reportedly shot and killed someone.
It isn’t clear at the moment if the person the rapper’s bodyguard killed was involved in the shooting or simply an innocent bystander, but police did confirm that at least one person died as a result of the shootout.
Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion is blowing up on the radio right now, and she’s been doing a lot of promo as she prepares for the release of her debut album Fever.
However, while things are going great for Megan career-wise, she’s also dealing with the loss of her mother and manager Holly Thomas, who died this past March after battling brain cancer.
As part of her promo tour, Megan stopped by Birmingham, Alabama radio station 95.7 Jamz Friday (May 10) for a quick interview before hitting the stage at an area nightclub later that night.
While there, one of the radio hosts, Funny Maine, asked Megan where her mom was, making for an incredibly awkward situation for everyone in the room.
“Now I was wondering if you was gonna bring your mom with you today, I know she travels with you a lot, but she’s a manager and all that good stuff for you…” Funny Maine said as Megan stared at him with a look of extreme confusion.
“And your mom was in the game before you, right?” he asked as the room remained painfully silent and Megan continued to look distressed. “No? Don’t wanna talk about that? Okay, we’ll go another way then.”
Maine addressed his mistake during a break, but didn’t immediately apologize.
He said: “I’m all about energy. I wasn’t prepped or don’t wanna make it weird for you or anything. Are we good?” Meghan responded by nodding her head, and Maine continued: “Just wanna make sure you’re comfortable.”
Megan’s Interviews @ 95.7 JamzPSA ?Ladies and gents, please do some REAL research before you interview people?
Needless to say, Funny Maine was dragged all over social media for making such a tragic mistake just two days before Megan Thee Stallion’s first Mother’s Day without her mom.
“Who asked Meg about her mom not traveling with her anymore at 95.7 yesterday?” one fan asked on Twitter. “Isn’t broadcasting a form of journalism? Shouldn’t you do your research before conducting these interviews? Smh.”
Who asked Meg about her mom not traveling with her anymore at 95.7 yesterday? Isn’t broadcasting a form of journalism? Shouldn’t you do your research before conducting these interviews? Smh ?????
Funny Maine addressed the controversy on Instagram over the weekend, saying that what happened was an “honest mistake” and he has since apologized “multiple times” to Megan for the slip-up.
“I know folks want to see a train wreck, but it was an honest mistake and I already apologized multiple times to the one person who deserved it,” he wrote. “Sometimes you can research for hours and still miss important details. And that’s what happened. I wanted to highlight her relationship with her mother for Mothers Day, and just didn’t know what I didn’t know.
“Shout out to her for finishing the interview and being a class act in spite of everything. Apologies again to Meg, her family and her true fans. I’ll take the blame for this one, but my heart was in the right place.”
A bride-to-be who proudly shared her engagement ring on social media was ridiculed over how small her diamond was.
The ring, which is very thin and features one single delicate diamond, is reportedly called the “Minimalist Wedding Band” and costs around $100 on Etsy.
The newly engaged woman posted a photo of the ring in a wedding group on Facebook, explaining how she and her boyfriend had purchased it online and she was “in LOVE with it.”
Not long after sharing the photo, the woman was dragged in the comments over the size of the ring, with some comparing it to a key ring or a paper clip.
One person commented: “Why even bother having a diamond there?”
Another wrote: “So take that keyring off your finger and show us the ring you ordered online.”
A third commenter said “It’s so pitiful, I just can’t. It’s too sad,” while another simply asked: “Why bother?”
“All I can think is paper clip,” another person said, with another adding: “I guess neither of you wants anyone to know you’re engaged huh.”
Christopher Darden will no longer be representing Nipsey Hussle’s alleged killer Eric Holder in Hussle’s murder case after receiving a number of death threats against his life and the lives of his family members, TMZ reports.
Darden, who famously (or infamously, depending on who you ask) was a part of O.J. Simpson’s defense team in Simpson’s 1995 murder trial, said he recently filed a motion with the L.A. Superior Court to withdraw as Eric Holder’s defense attorney because he says the death threats he and his family have been getting are too much.
According to TMZ, Holder had a hearing scheduled for Friday (May 10), and Darden made it clear that would be his last working as Holder’s attorney.
A judge granted Darden’s request to be removed from the case and assigned a public defender, Mearl Lottman, to take on from here, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Darden said that flood of hatred he’s received since taking on Holder’s case reminded him of the O.J. case, but with a twist.
“Just as they were in 1995-Cowards never change,” he said. “These days these cowards don’t send letters instead they sit anonymously behind keyboards threatening a man’s mother and children.”
Darden also made it a point to note that under the United States Constitution, EVERYONE deserves a right to a fair trial, and when he’s defending people like Eric Holder, he’s simply doing his job as an experienced defense attorney.
“After centuries of a history of black men hung from trees without trial, or after the thousands of cases of black men tried, convicted and executed without counsel … I cannot understand why in 2019 some people would deny a black man his 6th Amendment right to counsel of his choice,” he said.
Darden said he’s been defending accused criminals, including alleged gang members, for two decades.
Asked why he took on Holder’s case, he said it was for personal reasons. “I defend poor people — that’s all I do,” Darden said. “And he’s definitely poor.”
Darden also had a message for the people who think it’s OK to threaten not just him, but also his children.
“To those who issued those threats to my children please pay close attention so there is no misunderstanding. Later. F**K YOU!” he said, according to TMZ.
Eric Holder aka “Shitty Cuz” is accused of shooting and killing Nipsey Hussle outside the 33-year-old’s The Marathon Clothing store on March 31st, 2019. He was allegedly seen on surveillance footage opening fire three separate times on Hussle.
The footage showed him shooting Nipsey once and walking away before returning a second time and shooting him again.
After walking away again, he returned a third time, shot Nipsey once again and then kicked him in the head before running toward a back alley and hopping in a getaway vehicle.
Investigators said Hussle and Holder had a tense conversation prior to the shooting, and Holder left the scene and returned later and shot Nipsey because he felt disrespected by the rapper.
Tiffany Haddish has a complicated relationship with Black people.
On the one hand, she is lauded for her “keeping it real” shtick … but on the other, she’s criticized for making Black folks look bad with her allegedly “coonish” ways.
Case in point: When she arrived on the red carpet of the 2019 Met Gala in New York last Monday (May 6) dressed up like a pimp, she revealed that she came extra prepared by hiding fried chicken in her purse because, based on her previous experiences with the annual event, there’s “not enough food” inside.
“Last year I came and it was not enough food and I was hungry,” the 39-year-old said on the red carpet. “And when I’m hungry, my attitude [is] not good … I said I’m [going to] be prepared this year, so, I brought chicken.”
Mainstream (i.e. white) media outlets atethatsh*t allthewayup … but the majority of Black Twitter was like “Nah, sis, this ain’t it” and dragged Haddish for basically feeding into typical Black stereotypes and embarrassing her people in the process.
“Tiffany Haddish is an embarrassment,” on Twitterer shared. “Handing out fried chicken at the Met Gala, a stereotypical disgrace.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Tiffany Haddish does too much. You’ve made it sis. There’s no reason you gotta bring fried chicken for attention. Stop it.”

I really dislike Tiffany Haddish. She always acts like a bush person. Why are you taking fried chicken to the MET GALA?! As if they wont feed you there. Shes very embarrassing
Of course, Tiffany Haddish isn’t one to sit back and watch herself being dragged all over social media without at least speaking up for herself.
So she personally responded to the backlash and defended her actions, saying that she was just participating in the Met Gala’s “camp” theme, and most of the people who had an issue with how she carried herself at the event simply wouldn’t understand anyway because they aren’t on her level.
“Let me just state a few facts,” she tweeted. “I am sure none of y’all ever been to the Met Gala. This was my 2nd time. I Love food. Designers spend big money for a table. There is very small portions of food. There are hungry models everywhere. I am full blown bitch when I am hungry.”
She added: “I like chicken … The fact that fried chicken is a black stereotype is bull to me. Do your research people. How many black chicken farmers in America? Also every culture has their own version of fried chicken. Is there any major corporation that sales fried chicken that is owned by black people?”
She continued: “This is what I think. Black people put stereotypes on themselves that they really should put on [others]. I ain’t never seen a white [person] embarrassed to eat anything because of their race. But black people act like they can’t be seen eating food they like. SMH
“Hey guys you ever think they might have made all that Propaganda back in the day about black people eaten fried chicken and watermelon. So that we feel guilty about eating it. Which makes you buy more and makes them richer? Y’all acting like I brought chitlins, real slave food
“I will stop being me and bringing what I like to eat or drink to functions, when I see white people embarrassed to eat in front of me. Until then This Human will eat what she like, because what you eat don’t make me sh*t! Carry on.”
In response to someone who said her bringing fried chicken to Met Gala set Black people back “two whole decades,” Tiffany said: “If me bringing chicken to a event [with a theme] about being over the top sets all black people back decades sh*t… I must have super powers…Smh…. What I eat don’t make you sh*t remember that. If you stop hating you might get out that barrel, Crab… You just mad you didn’t get to go…lol”

After going back and forth with her haters for two hours, Tiffany said she came to the “realization” as to why she brings food everywhere she goes.
“I bring my own food to everything,” she said. “When I go to the movies I got hamburgers or Chinese food in my bag. When I go to a bar there in candy in my bag. Plays I have fries.
She continued: “I think [since] I have been starved for years because of no money. As soon as I got some I just always make sure I got something to eat. I don’t know about y’all but I hate being hungry it makes me emotional. I call it skinny girl crazy.”
Tiffany concluded: “I think like what if I get trapped somewhere at least I can live off these candy bars, chips, and half a steak in my bag.”
I think sense I have been starved for years because of no money. As soon as I got some I just always make sure I got something to eat. I don’t know about y’all but I hate being hungry it makes me emotional. I call it skinny girl crazy.
Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon Clothing store has reported a massive increase in sales since the rapper’s shooting death in March.
Earlier this week, the South Central Los Angeles-based business announced that it had officially closed its doors for the foreseeable future, however, the online shop has remained up and running and business is booming.
According to XXL, Hussle’s fans and supporters have been buying merchandise in droves via the Marathon Clothing’s website, which has brought in more than $10 million. Hats, hoodies and t-shirts are the store’s biggest sellers, sources close to Nip’s team said.
The tragic irony behind all of this is that Hussle was shot and killed in front of The Marathon on March 31st, which is likely the reason behind the brick and mortar business’ temporary (if not permanent) closing.
“Thank you to everyone who’s placed an order with us these last couple of weeks. We appreciate the unprecedented outpour of support. It means a lot to our team and family,” a message from the store read on Instagram on Monday (May 6).
“We are working around the clock to fulfill every order placed. We ask for your patience as we get everything fulfilled and shipped out to you. Additionally, our flagship store is closed right now, but our online store is open 24/7 to serve you and is the only authorized retailer of our brand. Once again, thank you for your support.”
Kodak Black is in the custody of police after getting arrested Saturday night (May 11) in Miami on state and federal weapons charges.
The rapper was scheduled to perform Saturday at the Rolling Loud music festival at Hard Rock Stadium, which is where he was taken into custody by Miami-Dade police and federal agents.

According to WSVN reporter Brian Entin, the US Marshals, ATF and Miami Dade PD North Side Gang Unit conducted an “extensive investigation” before arresting Kodak (whose real name is Bill Kapri) as he arrived at Rolling Loud.
Kodak will be charged with both state and federal firearms violations and will be booked into the Federal Detention Center in Miami, Entin said, along with a photo of the rapper (below) smiling for the cameras in custody.

A spokesperson for Young Thug issued this statement to XXL: “Young Thug did not get shot at. Somebody took at shot at the car DJ Keyz [Thugger’s DJ] was in. He is fine. It was a minor injury and not serious. Young Thug was long gone and was not involved.”
The shooting occurred on I-95 in Miami-Dade County. Lt. Alex Camacho of the Florida Highway Patrol told Local10.com that a party bus was driving on the highway at around 6:30 a.m. when another car pulled up and sprayed the vehicle with bullets.
One bus passenger, a woman, was hit by a bullet and was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Two other men were also injured and were rushed to North Shore Medical Center. One of the men was later moved to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Both are expected to recover from their injuries.
Police believe the bus left a party establishment in Miami, where an incident inside the venue may have initiated the shooting. No arrests were made. Anyone with further information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
Glad Young Thug is OK and no one was seriously injured.
