Nipsey Hussle 2020 Grammys Tribute Brings Together Meek Mill, Roddy Ricch, YG, DJ Khaled, John Legend & Kirk Franklin

Given that the Grammys takes place in Nipsey Hussle’s turf, Los Angeles, it should have been no surprise that a slot was carved out to pay tribute to the late West Coast rapper.

Meek Mill, who seemingly has recovered from his near altercation with Nicki Minaj’s husband, opened up the tribute with a heartfelt verse.

John Legend banged on the ivory keys and DJ Khaled hollered like he was MCing the baddest party in heaven.

Nipsey’s presence, as expected, played out on screen and through a recording from the “Higher” music video.

The biggest moment was when YG, who was fresh out of the slammer, was able to make it at all. His presence was a giant question mark leading up to the Grammys so the fact he stepped foot on the stage was a pleasant surprise.

Billboard chart-topper Roddy Rich, another very close friend of Nipsey’s, and Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin also shared to stage to tribute Nip.

At the end of the performance, a photo of Nipsey and Kobe Bryant was shown side-by-side on the giant screen.

“Long live Nip. Long live Kobe. The Marathon continues,” DJ Khaled said as Nipsey’s family, including his girlfriend Lauren London, cheered from the crowd.

Overall, it was a pure, angelic and divinely inspired revival in honor of Nipsey’s legacy. For those who revere Nipsey’s ministry, this was a beautiful sendoff on music’s biggest stage.

Demi Lovato Cries During Emotional Grammys Performance, Her First Since Near-Fatal 2018 Overdose

Demi Lovato is hopefully feeling the love tonight. And she was definitely heard.

The singer gave her first performance since her near-fatal July 2018 overdose and it occurred on the Grammy stage.

Lovato performed her new song “Anyone,” a song she wrote and recorded just four days before the overdose. Getting emotional, she got choked up in the opening line and had to restart.

Tears could be seen rolling down her face and she belted out the tune with just a piano behind her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glo6mbDWLd4

A few lyrics from the powerful song:

“I tried to talk to my piano / I tried to talk to my guitar / I tried to talk to my imagination / Confided in to alcohol / I tried and tried and tried more,” she sang. “Told secrets ’til my voice was sore / Tired of empty conversation / ‘Cause no one hears me anymore.”

In a Beats 1 interview last week, Lovato says she now believes she wrote the song as a “cry for help.”

In July 2018, Lovato was found unconscious in her home and rushed to the hospital after overdosing on oxycodone and fentanyl. She was treated with Narcan.

One month prior to the overdose, she revealed to fans that she had relapsed after being sober for six years.

She will next perform the National Anthem next Sunday (Feb. 2) at the 2020 Super Bowl.

Lil Nas X Performs Global Remix of “Old Town Road,” Swaps Nas for Cardi B on Surprise “Rodeo” Remix at 2020 Grammys

While 2019 definitely belonged to Lil Nas X, his Grammys debut turned out to be a family affair as he opted to make it a Lil Nas X & Friends moment.

As we know, “Old Town Road,” perhaps better known as “Horses in the Back” by your lil’ nieces and nephews, was the song that could not and would not stop streaming last year. Part of the reason for that is because Lil Nas X kept remixing the damn song over and over again.

The original remix featured the iconic Billy Ray Cyrus. After that, he saddled up with Young Thug and Mason Ramsey for another remix, and opting to cash in on the K-Pop wave, he threw RM of BTS on the “Old Town Road (Seoul Town Road Remix).”

In an impressive feat of stage design, Lil Nas X gave us Brandy and Monica “Boy Is Mine” vibes as he walked through different colored rooms, and as he entered each set, a different special guest performed their verse on whichever remix they were featured on. He started with BTS, moved on to Mason Ramsey and then closed out with the Big Kahuna himself, Billy Ray Cyrus.

The spectacle of every remix being performed with all of their guest stars (minus Young Thug, who was apparently not invited to the Old Town Ball) was sufficient enough.

Then Lil Nas X decided to add a lil’ sauce on top by tacking on “Rodeo.” But instead of his official co-star Cardi B, he brought out Big Nas for a brand-new take on the dark, trippy, droning cowboy-inspired track.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drojmpUCC2M

I’m not sure why Cardi B wasn’t invited (or declined an invitation) onstage for the “Rodeo” rendition considering she was in the audience.

Cardi did make some faces after the performance, so hopefully, her exclusion wasn’t shade on Lil Nas X’s part? Who knows. He was, after all, a very dedicated and loyal Barb once upon a time…

Ariana Grande Performs ‘Thank U, Next’ Album Medley at 2020 Grammys After Pulling Out of Last Year’s Show Over Dispute With Producers

Ariana Grande made her victorious return to the Grammy stage during tonight’s ceremony. Nominated for Album of the Year and four other awards, she performed a medley of hits from the album Thank U, Next.

The 26-year-old pop star opened her performance showcasing her vocals with “Imagine” and “7 Rings” with a special rendition of “My Favorite Things.”

She then invited us into her bedroom for a pajama party themed performance of the song, “Thank U, Next,” giving a special shoutout to her father who was in the audience.

Grande finished the song a cappella and taking a ring off her finger and putting it a box. The singer seemed to hold back tears as she received praise from the crowd.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUf78rxxEMo

Grande’s extended performance is notable given that she pulled out of last year’s Grammys just days before the show following a public dispute with the show’s producers who wanted creative input on her performance.

She didn’t even attend the ceremony.

Usher Pays Homage to Prince With Inspired Grammys Tribute Performance Featuring Sheila E. & FKA Twigs

The news and headlines about Usher have been so focused on herpes cases and messy divorces and the like that it’s easy to forget that underneath the drama, there’s a very talented artist.

Usher, thankfully, decided to remind us of his talents and not his genital warts by donning a ruffled suit and booting up a few of Prince’s greatest hits in a tribute to the legendary Purple One.

The performance was effortless as Usher exuded confidence, swagger and libido as he ran through “Little Red Corvette,” “Kiss,” and “When Doves Cry.”

For those who noticed, Prince’s one-time lover and protege Sheila E. also joined Usher for the performance on the drums. FKA Twigs took the stage as well, performing a pole dance routine during “When Doves Cry.”

The only disappointment is that while the performance was solid and serviceable, it was also a bit paint-by-the-numbers for Usher.

But again, given that he actually did a set where he sang and didn’t rap-sing in an attempt to keep up with the Bryson Tillers of the world, we probably should be thankful we got what we got.

Tyler, the Creator Performs “Earfquake” & “New Magic Wand” at 2020 Grammys With Charlie Wilson & Boyz II Men

Tyler, the Creator just made his Grammy performance debut, and let’s just say he made a memorable impression.

The rapper was joined on stage by Charlie Wilson (singing lead vocals) and Boyz II Men harmonizing as Tyler performed “Earfquake” while donning his now-iconic blond bob wig

He then transitioned to “New Magic Wand” and embraced his inner rocker, shrieking into the microphone with erratic movements. Similarly-dressed professionals dancers (also rocking blonde bob wigs) then joined in.

Tyler ended the interesting performance by falling backwards seemingly into the fire behind him.

The rapper is nominated for Best Rap Album for Igor.

Kobe Bryant’s Daughter’s Basketball Teammate & Parent Among 9 Killed in Tragic Helicopter Crash

As the world continues to mourn the tragic loss of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, information regarding the other victims in the fatal helicopter crash is starting to be revealed.

According to reports, Bryant and his daughter, Gianna (Gigi) were headed to her basketball game in Thousand Oaks at Bryant’s Mamba Academy.

Sources say, also on board, was one of Gianna’s teammates, their parent, and the helicopter pilot.

It was originally reported that five people were on Bryant’s private helicopter, however, the L.A. County Sheriff just said that there nine people aboard, and, tragically, all 9 were killed when the copter crashed in Calabasas, California (Jan. 26).

This story is developing, check back for updates…

White MSNBC News Anchor Alison Morris Seemingly Says N-Word While Reporting Kobe Bryant’s Death (VIDEO)

Video footage has surfaced showing MSNBC news anchor Alison Morris appearing to say the N-word while reporting on the death of Kobe Bryant.

Earlier today, it was reported that Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna aka “GiGi” were among several others who were killed in a fiery helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

While covering the story, Morris seemingly said:

“It seems like he was just the kind of athlete, the kind of star that was perfectly cast on the Los Angeles n***ers…

Immediately after saying what sounded very much like the n-word (the one with the HARD R), Morris, a white woman, quickly corrected herself by saying “Los Angeles Lakers,” but it was too late. The damage had already been done. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.

After being dragged across Black Twitter’s internet with the quickness (Let’s be honest, we don’t “own” this shit, but we definitely own this shit), Morris later took to Twitter herself and said she NEVER used the N-word, and actually said “Nakers” by mistake.

“Earlier today, while reporting on the tragic news of Kobe Bryant’s passing, I unfortunately stuttered on air, combining the names of the Knicks and the Lakers to say ‘Nakers.’ Please know I did not & would NEVER use a racist term. I apologize for the confusion this caused.”

For what it’s worth, not many are buying what she’s selling. I mean, she gets points for the effort (Shout out to MSNBC’s PR team, I guess?), but nah, fam. YOU SAID WHAT YOU SAID.

Twitter quickly responded to Morris’ apparent Freudian slip and the overall consensus is that she should be fired immediately and expeditiously:

Kobe Bryant’s 13-Year-Old Daughter Gianna aka “GiGi” Also Killed in Helicopter Crash

In a breaking news update, TMZ is reporting that Kobe Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria Onore aka “GiGi” was also on board Bryant’s private helicopter at the time of the crash that killed everyone on board.

According to Kobe’s representatives, Kobe and his daughter were on their way to the Mamba Academy in Thousand Oaks for a basketball practice when the fatal crash happened.

Bryant’s wife (and Gianna’s mother) Vanessa Bryant was not on board.

Kobe Bryant’s Last Tweet Was Congratulating LeBron James on Breaking His All-Time NBA Scoring Record

Kobe Bryant is dead at the age of 41 after being involved in a fatal helicopter crash that killed all five people on board, multiple sources have confirmed. TMZ broke the sad news first.

Not even 24 hours before Bryant’s tragic and untimely death, it was revealed that LeBron James, now a star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, had broken his all-time NBA scoring record.

Via ESPN:

James entered the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers needing 18 points to eclipse Bryant’s career total of 33,643 points. It was a grind, as Los Angeles struggled to create offense most of the night, but James reached the milestone with a running layup in the third quarter.

The Lakers went on to lose 108-91 at the Wells Fargo Center in the team’s lone trip this season to the city in which Bryant was born.

Philadelphia was prepared for the pomp and circumstance, with a sold-out crowd in attendance — and a national, prime-time television audience — to witness history as two star-laden teams from opposing conferences battled in late January. During a timeout following his big layup, James was saluted with a standing ovation.

After the game, James recalled meeting Bryant in Philadelphia during the 2002 NBA All-Star Weekend. Bryant gifted James with a special red, white and blue colorway of his signature sneakers. Even though Bryant wore a size 14 and James wore a size 15, James donned the sneakers in a matchup against a high school-aged Carmelo Anthony shortly thereafter.

“It’s just too much. It’s too much. The story is too much,” James said of Bryant. “It doesn’t make sense. Just to make a long story short, now I’m here in a Lakers uniform, in Philadelphia, where he’s from. The first time I ever met him, gave me his shoes on All-Star Weekend. It’s surreal. It doesn’t make no sense, but the universe just puts things in your life. And I guess when you live in the right way, when you just give it everything to whatever you’re doing, things happen organically.

“And it’s not supposed to make sense, but it just happens. And I’m happy just to be in any conversation with Kobe Bean Bryant, one of the all-time greatest basketball players to ever play, one of the all-time greatest Lakers. The man has two jerseys hanging up in Staples Center. It’s just crazy.”

In response to the news, Kobe Bryant congratulated his protégé in a post on Twitter.

“Continuing to move the game forward @KingJames,” Bryant wrote. “Much respect my brother … #33644.”

Sadly, this would end up being Kobe Bryant’s final tweet.

Kobe Bryant Dead at 41, Killed in Helicopter Crash in California

UPDATE: Kobe Bryant’s 13-Year-Old Daughter Gianna aka “GiGi” Also Killed in Helicopter Crash

Breaking News from TMZ … Kobe Bryant is dead at the age of 41 after being killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California Sunday morning (Jan. 26).

Missing Arizona Teen Found Dead in Phoenix Office Building, Police Looking for Person of Interest

An Arizona family is seeking justice for the mysterious death of a teenage girl who went missing and was found dead in an office building, and they’re asking for anyone who knows anything to speak out.

18-year-old Jaelynn Alston’s body was found on Thursday, January 16th after she was reported missing by her family the week before.

Though police say they have a person of interest, no one has been arrested in connection with the teen’s killing, and there are a lot of questions surrounding her death.

Here are a few facts about Jaelynn Alston and her tragic death:

Jaelynn Alston had been dead for several days when her body was found inside an office building in Phoenix, Arizona.

Jaelynn Alston’s family reported her missing after they had not been in contact with her since January 9th. A week later, she was found dead.

Police said a cleaning crew found Jaelynn Alston’s body after noticing a “foul odor” coming from a room in an industrial building in West Phoenix.

Officials haven’t revealed an official cause of death, but they said Alston had been dead for several days when her remains were found, and she had extensive injuries to multiple areas of her body.

Police say they have a person of interest, but haven’t revealed their identity.

Police have revealed the room where Jaelynn was found dead is leased to a man who is a person of interest in the investigation, but he has not been located.

Officials also have not revealed the identity of the person of interest.

Jaelynn’s family is asking her killer(s) to turn themselves in.

Jaelynn father’s, Jimmie Alston, told the Arizona Republic he last spoke to his daughter on January 5th and filed a missing person’s report on January 9th after she had not responded to his text messages for days.

Alston said Jaelynn was very independent and would come and go as she pleased, but always made sure she stayed in touch with her family.

Now he is asking his daughter’s killer(s) to come forward and turn themselves in to the police.

“I pray they turn themselves in. Just turn yourself in for what they did. Because you got a lot of people hurting right now. It was senseless,” Mr. Alston said.

Jaelynn father’s is also asking any witnesses or those who may know about the incident to speak up.

“If y’all know who did this to our baby girl, please let the officers know,” he said. “Let someone know, please. We’re asking with all our heart. That was our baby.

Mr. Alston said that although he is extremely hurt, he doesn’t hate his daughter’s killer.

“I’m not hateful toward anybody,” he said. “Even the person that did this. I’m very, very hurt. I love you, but I’m hurt. Real hurt.”

A candlelight vigil was held for Jaelynn by her family and friends.

More than 50 people gathered for a vigil at Life Changers Global Ministries Church to mourn Jaelynn’s death on Friday.

The Arizona Republic reported that Alston’s mother, Kenya Moses, broke down in tears at the beginning of the vigil.

Jaelynn’s father Jimmie Alston spoke during the vigil and thanked the crowd for their support.

“I’m hurting right now, real bad,” he said. “It’s a real big hurt. We hurt. But at the end of the day, I gotta let God do what he do.

“Losing a child is a feeling I can’t explain to you. It’s a hurt you can’t even explain,” Mr. Alston continued.

“I know Jaelynn was no saint,” he added. “But at the end of the day, she had a big heart. She loved big,” he said, adding that she took pride in helping others.

Jimmie said Jaelynn planned on studying to become a nurse at Gateway Community College, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Jimyesha, who recently became a certified nursing assistant.

After hearing from speakers, attendees of Friday’s vigil went outside where they sang together, held candles and balloons, and prayed for Alston’s family.

Speaking to 12 News in a later interview, Jimmie Alston said that his daughter was the star of the family and, overall, a great person.

“She was the entertainment in the family,” he said. “She always had a smile. She wasn’t afraid of nothing. She believed she could do anything. And she was a beautiful young lady.”

A GoFundMe has been established to help Jaelynn’s family lay her to rest.

A family friend started a GoFundMe asking anyone who can to help donate money to help cover Jaelynn’s funeral costs and assist the Alston family during this tough time.

The page reads:

Help us assist the Alston Family in their time of PAIN, HURT, & SORROW!

Jaelynn Alston, 18, was found dead in a West Phoenix Office Building, it was said she had been [deceased] for a couple of days!

We are asking the COMMUNITY to come together NEAR & FAR to assist with blessing the family, not only with burial costs, but just in general BE A BLESSING! Any amount will be a BLESSING!

No MOTHER or FATHER should have to experience such a horrific pain as to burying their young child, with NO EXPLANATION!

We will continue to pray for the family, asking God to release his PEACE & COMFORT in a time such as this!”

Denver Teen Stabbed to Death & Dumped in Trash Can Allegedly By Her Older Brother

A Colorado mother is devastated after finding her teen daughter stabbed to death in a trash can, and police say it was her own son (the girl’s brother) who committed the heinous crime.

17-year-old Marnee Kelley-Mills was pronounced dead by authorities on Thursday (Jan. 23) at her family’s home in Denver.

Marnee’s older brother, 25-year-old Darsean Kelley, has been arrested and charged in connection with her murder.

Here’s what you need to know about Marnee Kelley-Mills and her tragic death:

Marnee’s mother found her dead after her school reported her missing.

Marnee’s mother Vicky Lewis told authorities that she found her daughter’s dead body in a trash can at their Montbello home in the 5000 block of Troy Street in Denver.

Lewis stated that she received a phone call on Thursday from her daughter’s school stating that Marnee had missed her classes.

Lewis says she went home to look for Marnee, but could not find her. Instead, she found stains of blood throughout the driveway of the home and also noticed that the garbage cans moved out of place.

Lewis looked in one of the trash cans and found her daughter Marnee’s dead body in a black trash bag stuffed inside of a duffle bag.

Marnee’s 25-year-old brother Darsean Kelley was quickly identified as her killer and arrested by authorities.

According to police, Darsean killed Marnee by stabbing her in the neck.

Video footage from a doorbell camera obtained by police showed Darsean dragging a black bag outside containing Marnee’s dead body and putting it in the trash can.

As Darsean was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, a detective said he noticed what appeared to be blood on his left big toe.

Marnee’s mother expressed her pain after finding out her daughter was murdered by son.

“He killed my daughter today while I was at work and she was on her way to school,” Lewis said.

Darsean is being held at the Downtown Detention Center without bond.

Marnee’s brother and accused killer, Darsean Kelley, suffers from mental disease, according to their mother.

Marnee’s mother, Vicky Lewis, revealed to Denver’s CBS 4 that her son, Darsean Kelley, suffers from schizophrenia.

Lewis said that Marnee and Darsean would often get into arguments and Darsean would get violent during those encounters.

Lewis also said police were often called to her house about her son Darsean, but they always told her there was nothing they could do.

She explained: “My oldest, son who is 25, has mental health issues and the police are always called to my house and they tell me there’s nothing they can do.”

Lewis also said that she’s tried her best to get her son some help, but was failed by the system.

“I’m poor. I can’t afford to put him in a facility. Poor people are sick too. You can’t lock them up and forget them,” she said.

Just three years ago, Darsean got into an encounter with law enforcement and it ended in him winning a major lawsuit.

Via CBS 4 News:

In 2017, he was confronted by Aurora officers and tased. He was suspected in a crime, but there were no charges and he won $110,000 from Aurora in a settlement.

Another one of Marnee’s brothers was killed last year.

The family of Marnee Kelley-Mills are still coping with the death of her other brother Otis who was killed over a year ago.

Marnee’s 15-year-old brother Otis was shot and killed in their front yard and no one has been arrested for his murder.

“It was my 15-year-old son who got shot in front of me and his sister a year-and-a-half ago … they do know who killed him. I held him for his first and last breaths,” Marnee’s mother Vicky Lewis told the Denver Post.

Lewis is now mourning the loss of all three of her children.

“All three of my children are gone,” she said.

A candlelight vigil was held in memory of Marnee.

Marnee Kelley-Mills was a student at Montbello Career and Technical High School. On Friday night, friends and neighbors gathered outside her home for a candlelight vigil in her honor.

Denver Public Schools officials also released a statement saying that counselors would be available to parents and students following Marnee’s death.

Twitter users are honoring Marnee’s memory and expressing their condolences to her family.

Social media users have tweeted R.I.P. to the young teen and talking about how much she will be missed.

Gabrielle Union Claps Back at Terry Crews After He Threw Her Under the Bus by Saying He Never Witnessed Racism on “AGT” Set

Gabrielle Union is not too happy with Terry Crews at the moment. In fact, she feels her former America’s Got Talent colleague just threw her under the bus.

In a series of tweets on Friday (Jan. 24), the actress seemingly responded to Crews’ recent comments in which he contradicted her allegations of racial insensitivity behind the scenes on the reality competition show.

She wrote in part:

“Truth telling, wanting change & having MULTIPLE witnesses who bravely came forward to let EVERYONE know I didn’t lie or exaggerate, really exposes those who enthusiastically will throw you under the bus, forgetting quickly who stepped up 4 THEIR truth.”

Union’s tweets come one day after Crews defended his experience on AGT in multiple interviews, even going as far as to say that the competition show has the most diversity he’s seen on a set in his career.

“I can’t speak for sexism because I’m not a woman, but I can speak on behalf of any racism comments,” he said on the Today show.

“That was never my experience … in fact, it was the most diverse place I have ever been in my 20 years of entertainment.”

“When they talk about diversity, there was every bit of diversity on set, everywhere. I have never been in a more diverse place in 20 years of entertainment, so what can I say?” Crews added in a separate interview with Us Weekly.

In her indirect response on Friday, Union maintains that the diversity was lacking behind the camera.

Because the initial November 2019 report of a toxic environment on the set of AGT involving racism and sexism had unnamed sources speaking on behalf of Union, Crews also explained his hesitation to offer support.

“When you look at what the allegations were about, it was given by an unnamed source…So I asked my wife what I should do. She was like, first of all, if it’s coming from an unnamed source, because Gabrielle Union has not made any statement to this day about any of these allegations publicly … if she hasn’t made a statement, why would you?” he said on Today.

The report Crews referenced actually had multiple unnamed sources, not just one, which Union made note of in her tweets.

When it was announced that Union and Julianne Hough had not been asked to return as judges on America’s Got Talent, sources revealed that Union had repeatedly expressed concerns of a racist and sexist working environment and that speaking up had contributed to her firing.

Union had been told that her hairstyles were “too black” for audiences, Jay Leno made a racist joke while on set, and Union and Hough received “excessive notes” regarding their appearance.

Union was especially disappointed in Crews’ lack of public support given that she publicly supported him after revealing his own #MeToo experience of being groped by a male agent.

Crews was one of the first men to come forward about being sexually harassed in the entertainment industry and was saddened that many of his peers did not stand by him as he shared his experience and took legal action.

Crews also became a trending topic on Twitter due to his comments contradicting Union and not offering the same support she offered him.

“Terry Crews received so much love and support from Black women. It’s bullshit the way he is tap dancing and throwing Gabrielle Union under the bus,” one user tweeted.

Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta’s Sierra Gates’ Teenage Daughter Jumped by Student & Mom in School Bathroom, Mom Charged With Battery

Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta star Sierra Gates is “heartbroken” and “very upset” after her daughter was viciously jumped by a student and a parent in her high school bathroom.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (Jan. 22) at North Atlanta High School after Sierra’s 14-year-old daughter and a female student had a verbal argument earlier in the day.

A few hours later, the female student had gotten her mother, Treon Ponder, onto school premises, and the two confronted the 14-year-old. It was captured on cellphone video.

The video shows Gates’ daughter being fought by the student and Ponder in a bathroom as other students watched. The fight occurred during the lunch period.

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2379138152398707

“How could this happen,” Sierra told WSB-TV. “I was heartbroken. I’ve been crying all day.”

According to Sierra’s lawyer, Adamma McKinnon, Sierra’s daughter sustained “a black eye, scratches and contusions all around the side of her face and the back of her head.”

“The injuries were caused by the parent,” McKinnon added.

Three misdemeanor arrests warrants were issued for Ponder and she turned herself in to authorities on Thursday night (Jan. 23).

She was charged with battery, disrupting public school and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Ponder was granted a $4,000 bond. However, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that she remained in custody as of late Thursday night.

“We’re not going to sit by and allow people to come into our school and do harm to threaten our students,” police chief Ron Applin said.

“[If] you come into our schools, put your hands on any of our kids, put your hands on any of our faculty staff members, we intend to put you in jail.”

A spokesperson for the school district says Ponder was “inappropriately provided access to the building” by her daughter.

“That’s a severe concern, not only for my client, Ms. Gates, but also other parents of students who attend North Atlanta High School,” Sierra’s lawyer McKinnon said.

“The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority in Atlanta Public Schools,” the school district spokesman added.

Sierra was still mystified and upset that this even happened. She expressed more of her frustration in a lengthy Instagram post, noting that her daughter was not the instigator of the fight.

“#1 an adult should never be able to walk into a school unattended I’m scared for my child and the other children’s safety.

“#2 the school let this lady run off school grounds with a clear get away after attacking my child.

“#3 I had to raise hell just to get a police report and when I finally got the report they didn’t even want to put on the report that it was a battery to a minor.”

“I’m heart broken and very upset as a mother it’s taking everything in me to keep this civil,” she continued.

Sierra has appeared on several seasons of Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta.

#BankingWhileBlack: Detroit Man Sues Bank for Calling Cops After He Tried to Deposit Settlement Checks From Race Discrimination Case

A black Detroit man is suing a Michigan bank for discrimination after the bank refused to cash checks that had just been awarded to him in a separate race discrimination lawsuit settlement from his employer.

Sauntore Thomas is suing TCF Bank after employees labeled his settlement checks fraudulent and called the police on him on Tuesday (Jan. 21).

Four officers arrived on the scene—two talking with Thomas while the other two stood guard outside.

The 44-year-old—who has held an account with the bank for two years—was stunned and humiliated by the way he was treated.

“I didn’t deserve treatment like that when I knew that the check was not fraudulent,” he told the Detroit Free Press.

“I’m a United States veteran. I have an honorable discharge from the Air Force. They discriminated against me because I’m black. None of this would have happened if I were white.”

Thomas even called his lawyer, Deborah Gordon, during the matter hoping she could verify the checks’ authenticity to police and the bank. Unfortunately, even she wasn’t believed.

“I got on the phone with the bank. I sent them my federal court complaint, to see that it matched. I did everything,” Gordon told the newspaper.

Gordon echoes her client’s sentiment that the bank discriminated against him because he had large sums of money.

“Obviously, assumptions were made the minute he walked in based on his race,” she said. “It’s unbelievable that this guy got done with a race discrimination case and he’s not allowed to deposit the checks based on his case? It’s absolutely outrageous.”

“They could have just called the bank that issued the checks, and they apparently didn’t do anything because it would have all been verified immediately,” she added.

Though Thomas did not reveal the amount of his checks due to a confidential agreement with his former employer, Enterprise Leasing Company, TCF says Thomas was attempting to deposit three checks valued at $59,000, $27,000, and $13,000.

Tom Wennerberg, a spokesman for TCF Bank, says the checks were watermarked “VOID” and the bank’s system deemed them fraudulent.

Wennerberg also said that the African-American assistant manager who assisted Thomas was suspicious, not because of his race, but because of his behavior.

The manager felt something was off after Thomas made two unusual requests: to deposit the two larger checks into an account with only 52 cents and cash the third; he then asked for another debit card because his wasn’t working.

Thomas also claims that he manger directly asked him “How did you get this money?” and then misled him by telling him that she was still trying to verify the checks, when she was really calling the cops.

TCF issued an apology to Thomas on Thursday (Jan. 23). It read in part:

“We apologize for the experience Mr. Thomas had at our banking center. Local police should not have been involved. We strongly condemn racism and discrimination of any kind.

“We take extra precautions involving large deposits and requests for cash and in this case, we were unable to validate the checks presented by Mr. Thomas and regret we could not meet his needs.”

“TCF Bank is a diverse business serving a diverse community and we abhor racism in all forms,” the statement continued. “Mr. Thomas’ transaction was handled like any other transactions involving requests for large amounts of cash.”

Thomas was not arrested or charged after the incident at TFC Bank.

He closed his TCF account, took his settlement money to a Chase Bank and cashed the checks with no issue. The money was available in his new Chase account within 12 hours.

Thomas filed the discrimination suit against TCF Bank on Wednesday (Jan. 22).

“I want to be vindicated,” Thomas said.

“I had a very long journey and I feel like I have to go through the same thing again. It’s frustrating…[but] I will be vindicated because I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Wendy Williams & Kevin Hunter Finalize Divorce After 9 Months, Williams Becomes Sole Owner of Her Production Company

Wendy Williams’ divorce from Kevin Hunter has been finalized. Despite the messiness of the situation, it seems the split was not as contentious as feared.

According to court documents, citing irreconcilable differences, a New Jersey judge decreed the divorce on Tuesday (Jan. 21). After a 9-month process, both parties are leaving the marriage satisfied.

In the dissolution of the union, Williams and Hunter have both agreed to forgo alimony, the money in their joint bank account will go to Williams, and Hunter will sign over his shares in Wendy Williams Productions Inc, making Williams the sole owner of the production company.

Hunter received an undisclosed lump sum from Wendy and a severance payment in exchange for his share of Wendy, Inc.

Hunter, 47, will also remain the beneficiary of Willaims’ $1 million life insurance policy if she dies. However, she has the option to reduce the amount on a yearly basis. She also has to cover Hunter’s health insurance under her current policy.

The two will split the proceeds 50/50 of their New Jersey home, which is currently on the market at $1.7 million.

Separately, Hunter will be able to walk away with his Rolls Royce, Ferrari, the proceeds from a second New Jersey home he recently sold, and full ownership of his businesses outside of Wendy Williams Productions, Inc.

Meanwhile, Williams, 55, will keep all the furniture from the marital home as well as a home in Florida, where Williams’ parents currently reside.

They will each cover their own legal expenses.

Williams and Hunter had been married for nearly 22 years and have one child together. Hunter also served as Williams’ manager.

William filed for divorce in April 2019 after Hunter welcomed a baby girl with longtime mistress Sharina Hudson.
