Tyrese Claims He Didn’t Go to Abu Dhabi to Do Hosting After Telling the Internet He Was Going to UAE to Do Hosting

I know that pointing out that Tyrese’s behavior on social media is erratic is a bit like saying Sammy Sosa’s skin seems to have gotten a little lighter these days. But still, I can’t help but chuckle at the foolery that Tyrese displays to the world in the name of….I guess therapy?

After emerging somewhat victorious in the contentious custody battle over his daughter Shayla, Tyrese decided to retreat to the UAE for some MUCH needed rest and relaxation. But although he made it clear that he was eager to get away from it all, he also spelled out explicitly that he was traveling to conduct business meetings and “to host.”

Hosting is how a lot of your favorite reality stars and up-and-coming rappers really pay their bills, because the TV checks ain’t all they’re cracked up to be and very few reality TV stars cross over as actual music successes (minus Cardi B) so getting paid to “host” club parties is a reliable, profitable revenue stream for MANY celebrities.

The fact that Tyrese, a multimillion-dollar-earning actor and musician who shouldn’t have to be hosting club parties at this stage in his career, is out here hustling for coins in clubs or private parties shows how much damage his tirades on social media have done to his career. But hey, take that humble pie cause those $5 million he said Jada and Will were wiring into his account ain’t never comin’, so he might as well get busy.

Now imagine my surprise when 6 days after he posted an IG video with a caption SAYING he was going to the UAE “to host,” he posts a different video in which he scolds and corrects an airline employee who says they didn’t realize he was coming to town to host. Tyrese immediately insisted to the young man that he wasn’t there “to host” any parties.

Say what?!

Tyrese’s medication needs to be revisited because this man is incapable of keeping up with the lies he told within the same week.

Of course, Tyrese lying about not going to Abu Dhabi to host isn’t the craziest thing to come out of his trip. No, that would be the bizarre videos where he forces his wife to participate in his social media broadcasts. Her face is perpetually in a tight grimace and she looks like she’s starring in a hostage video and would rather be anywhere in the world than next to Tyrese.

I don’t think Samantha Gibson is gonna make it through the rest of 2017 as Tyrese’s wife, y’all.

Mugshot Madness: Naya Rivera Charged With Domestic Battery After Hitting Husband, Big Sean Says “I Told Ya’ll!”

More details have emerged regarding Naya Rivera’s arrest. The former Glee actress was charged with domestic battery over the weekend after hitting her husband in the head.

Rivera, her husband Ryan Dorsey and their 2-year-old son, Josey, were on a walk in Dorsey’s hometown Chesapeake, West Virginia on Saturday (Nov. 25). An argument over the couple’s son turned physical when Rivera allegedly hit Dorsey.

According to a criminal complaint document, police arrived on the scene at 9:33 pm and Dorsey told the officer Rivera “had struck him in the head and the bottom lip.” Though Dorsey had “minor injuries,” he did not need medical attention.

“Ryan provided me with a cell phone video recording of Ryan being struck by Naya. Then I detained Naya and charged her with domestic battery,” the arresting officer wrote in the report. It was also noted that Rivera was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Rivera was released on $1,000 PR bond and was picked up at the station by her father-in-law.

Rivera filed for divorce in November 2016, only 2 years after tying the knot in July 2014. However, the couple called off the divorce just a month ago. “It is what it is, but I’m glad that my family is together,” she told People in October, adding that it was “a personal decision.”

The couple first dated in 2010, but reunited in 2014 after Rivera and rapper Big Sean ended their engagement. They share one child together, 2-year-old, Josey.

Big Sean seemingly responded to news of Rivera’s arrest with a video of Boosie Badazz’s daughter repeatedly exclaiming, “I told y’all n**gas. Y’all thought I was playing.”

Sean has previously accused Rivera of being controlling having “violent fits of anger.”

Ray J Confirms He and Princess Love Are Having A Baby

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Ray J and Princess with the baby carriage.

Ray J has confirmed that Princess Love is pregnant with their first child. Ray announced the big news during an appearance on The Real Monday morning (Nov. 27).

“Princess and I, we’re expecting,” Ray revealed exclusively on The Real as the co-hosts and audience members cheered and congratulated them.

Princess followed up Ray’s announcement on live TV with a close-up Instagram photo of her growing baby bump. “It’s such a blessing from God to be able to carry our child,” she captioned the pic. “We kept this ourself [sic] until after the first trimester because it’s bad luck to announce too early. But we’re so proud to share this journey with you guys. Thank you for all of the love and prayers.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BcAfL00Ff0H/

As for the baby’s gender, Ray J says he wants a girl. “I want to have a little girl first,” he said. “It’s like daddy’s little girl. Well I want to be able to have some peace first.”

Ray J and Princess have been open about their desire to have a baby amid fertility issues on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood (Season 4). Ray even made light of the situation by participating in a “sperm count competition” with LHHH castmates A1 and Safaree.

Ray came in 3rd place with the lowest sperm count and the doctor advised him to make some lifestyle changes, like quitting smoking, for instance, to help increase the odds of he and Princess conceiving.

“It was special because we were trying for a while,” Ray said on The Real. “It’s not as easy as people think. It’s not just. For some people, they just go on tour and get everybody pregnant. For me it was love. We took our time. And then as we were taking our time, it just took a little while.”

Ray and Princess wed in August 2016 in a beautiful ceremony that was documented on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood. It was first rumored in September 2016 that the then newlyweds were expecting, but that turned out to be not true. The following year, in August 2017, Ray hinted on Instagram that he and Princess were having a baby.

This will be the first child for both reality stars, and you can bet the entire pregnancy will be documenting next year on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood.

Leave Malia Alone! Twitter Defends Malia Obama After Conservatives Attack Her for Blowing Smoke Rings in Leaked Video

Malia Obama can’t seem to get a break. And the only thing she’s doing is living her teenage life (at Harvard). The 19-year had the nation talking after a video of her blowing smoke rings went viral.

Conservatives lost their minds Friday (Nov. 24) after right-wing site The Daily Caller posted a video of Malia attempting to blow smoke rings while in a bathroom. Since I’m on the “Leave Malia alone” team, I’m not going to include the video, but click here to view it for yourself.

For the record, it’s also unknown exactly what Malia was smoking.

The video was seemingly recorded on Snapchat and captioned: “F**king get your camera right now.” Barstool Sports first posted it on Instagram but later deleted it. Daily Caller then picked it up and the vid went viral on Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms.

Trump supporters/Barack Obama haters used the video as just another chance to criticize Malia and the former president. However, most of Twitter – especially Black Twitter – was not here for the games and Malia Obama quickly became a trending topic.

Some mocked the haters, while many suggested we leave Malia alone since she’s now a private citizen and just doing what college students do. Others also advised the 19-year-old to get new friends, assuming a friend is the one who released the vid into cyberspace.

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and current first daughter Ivanka Trump even defended Malia on Twitter.

Malia also made headlines earlier this week when she was caught kissing a boy and smoking a cigarette while tailgating before a football game between Harvard and Yale. Internet detectives identified the boy as Rory Farquharson, a Brit who attended the prestigious Rugby School and is rumored to be Malia’s Harvard boyfriend.

Malia is 19 and just started her first year at Harvard earlier this year. She’s living her carefree life and doing the things that most kids her age do. After spending eight years in the public spotlight, can we please just let her be?

Gabby Douglas Reveals Sexual Abuse Experience Days After Making Victim Blaming Comments, Ex-USA Gymnastics Doctor Pleads Guilty

Gabby Douglas continues to clarify previous victim shaming statements by also revealing she has experienced sexual abuse. Douglas joins over 100 other women accusing former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar of sexual misconduct.

Days after facing heavy backlash for suggesting it was a woman’s responsibility to “dress modestly and be classy” in response to teammate Aly Raisman’s allegations against Nassar, Douglas spoke out about her own experience with Nassar in a written statement on Tuesday (Nov. 21).

She wrote in part:

“I didn’t view my comments as victim shaming because I know that no matter what you wear, it NEVER gives anyone the right to harass or abuse you. It would be like saying that because of the leotards we wore, it was our fault that we were abused by Larry Nassar.

“I didn’t publicly share my experiences as well as many other things because for years we were conditioned to stay silent and honestly some things were extremely painful. I wholeheartedly support my teammates for coming forward with what happened to them.”

The three-time Olympic gold medalist again apologized for previous comments and also explained that she was trying to be a role model for young girls with her word choices. “I admit there are times that I fall short,” she admitted.

“I understand that many of you didn’t know what I was dealing with, but it is important to me that you at least know this. I do not advocate victim shaming/blaming in any way, shape or form! I will also never support attacking or bullying anyone on social media or anywhere else.

“…I will never stop promoting unity, positivity, strength, being courageous and doing good instead of evil. I have learned from this and I’m determined to be even better.”

Though Raisman never commented on Douglas’ victim shaming comments, she did support her teammate for sharing her experience with Nassar.

On Wednesday (Nov. 22), Larry Nassar, 54, pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual assault in a Michigan court. He is expected to serve a minimum of 25 years in prison. Sentencing will take place January 12th and his victims will be able to speak.

More than 130 women, including Douglas, Raisman, and their 2012 Olympic teammate McKayla Maroney, have accused Nassar of sexual assault which occurred during his three-decade tenure with USA Gymnastics.

In July, Nassar was charged with 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and 11 counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He also pleaded guilty to child pornography charges and that hearing is scheduled for next week.

USA Gymnastics stands behind Douglas, Raisman, and every other gymnast who has accused Nassar.

Lil Peep Took a Nap Before His Concert and Never Woke Up, Police Report Reveals

Lil Peep, the 21-year-old New York-based rapper who died as the result of an apparent drug overdose, took a nap right before his concert last Wednesday (Nov. 15) in Tucson, Arizona, and never woke up out of his sleep, a police report has revealed.

According to TMZ, Peep’s manager said she saw him early Wednesday on his tour bus and he looked fine. She said Peep took a nap around 5:45 PM PST and when she checked on him a little while later, he was snoring and breathing normally. After she was unable to wake him out of his deep slumber, she decided to just let him sleep.

When another manager went to check on Peep a third time, at around 8:50 PM, the rapper was no longer breathing and was “completely unresponsive,” TMZ reported, at which point Peep’s team began to administer CPR, which, obviously, was unsuccessful.

A medical examiner for the Arizona county of Pima has ruled Peep’s death as a suspected overdose. Law enforcement sources told TMZ there was drug paraphernalia around him and he had likely taken Xanax, though a full toxicology report, which would reveal exactly what was in his system when he died, won’t be released for another several weeks.

A video showing Peep right before he was found dead on his tour has been heavily circulated online. The footage was recorded by his best friend, fellow rapper and tourmate, Bexey. The clip was initially shared on Bexey’s Instagram story, but was deleted after he found out his friend, who he considered a brother, had died.

“My brother just died in my arms, man,” Bexey said in a subsequent video posted on his Instagram page. “I’m done with this sh*t, man, forever. F**k this sh*t.”

After receiving backlash from fans for showing his friend’s final moments, Bexey wrote in a profanity-laced post on Instagram that he had no idea he was recording Peep’s final moments alive.

“THAT VIDEO I POSTED.. I WOULD SEE PEEP WITH HIS MOUTH OPEN AND HEAD BACK ASLEEP LIKE THAT NEARLY EVERYDAY.. I WAS RECORDING HIM ASLEEP. IF YOU SERIOUSLY THINK I WOULD RECORD MY BROTHERS DEAD BODY AND MAKE A JOKE ABOUT IT YOU ARE SICK IN THE MIND.. F**K YOU.”

From Housewife to Supermodel: Phaedra Parks Signs Contract With Wilhelmina Models

The woman with “several jobs” shamefully lost one earlier this year, but it seems Phaedra Parks has quickly snatched another and it’s a bit of an odd career path. Phaedra is ready to walk in Naomi Campbell’s shoes and become a supermodel.

The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star announced today (Nov. 21) that she has signed with Wilhelmina Models. The 44-year-old, standing at 5’1, said she has partnered with the agency to inspire women of all ages to follow their dreams.

“I think I’m the face of ‘yes you can.’ I’m a small-town girl who has followed her dreams,” she tells Us magazine. “Yes, you can be a mom, yes you can be a lawyer and yes you can be a model.”

Phaedra says she jumped at the chance to try her hand at modeling.

“When the opportunity presented itself, some people asked me ‘Why?’ and I said ‘Why not?’ A supermodel started this company and she wanted to give power back to the women and I think I stand for the same things. I have the opportunity to show people that beauty can come in every size, shade, color and age. It’s exciting and an adventure!”

Phaedra says that supermodel Naomi Campbell is one of her inspirations. “She is everything, so fierce.” She also name-dropped Nicki Minaj, who is also signed to Wilhelmina and is a “big supporter” of Phaedra’s, so she claims.

However, don’t expect Phaedra to be walking the runways in Paris or Milan anytime soon. She hopes to promote skin care products, not apparel. “I would love to be the face of a skincare brand. I have great skin,” she says. “I love makeup, but I love to be able to take off the makeup and have beautiful skin.”

I’m not one to knock someone’s dreams, so good luck with that, Phaedra!

The lawyer/former reality star/model hopeful also gave Us an update on her mortuary side hustle. She’s very excited for the “peak season” which ironically follows Halloween.

“Being a mortician is a passion of mine and everything I’m passionate about I just dive right in. This is our peak season actually, the peak season from deaths is from Halloween to around Valentine’s Day, so we’re very busy — people are going to glory pretty regularly. I’m directing a few funerals this weekend. I know it’s morbid, but I love being the final party planner.”

Ray Allen Admitting to Being Catfished by Man Pretending to Be “Attractive Women” Had Twitter in Shambles

Twitter went crazy over reports that former NBA player Ray Allen is a victim of a catfishing scheme in the year 2017. Like… how though?! You never FaceTimed “her,” bro?!

On Monday (Nov. 20), a man named Bryant Coleman told a Florida court that he was being stalked by Ray Allen, and today (Tues, Nov. 21), Allen responded with an emergency motion saying that he was the one being stalked by Coleman.

Allen admitted that he’d unwittingly exchanged a bunch of flirty and sometimes explicit text messages with Coleman, who he believed was a woman. Turns out, Ray Allen (who has been married for almost 10 years, btw) was being Catfished by a man pretending to be “a number of attractive women,” he said.

Allen’s court motion states:

When Ray realized he was the victim of this impersonation, he terminated these communications. Mr. Coleman, who had become obsessed with Ray even though they had never met in person and even though Ray wanted nothing to do with him, refused to accept an end to their communications.

Coleman continued to post about Ray using various online accounts. Coleman did not limit these posts to Ray. He posted about Ray’s wife, Ray’s children, Ray’s dog, Ray’s homes, Ray’s wife’s restaurant, and numerous other personal items. Coleman not only posted about these things, he would actually post while physically located inside Ray’s wife’s restaurant in Orlando. And he would make sure they knew it, tagging Ray and his wife on those posts.

Allen claimed in the court documents that Coleman threatened to expose their online interactions, the Associated Press reported, and the two eventually “struck a deal to keep everything private.”

However, Allen said that Coleman has reneged on their deal by continuing to harass him and his family via social media in what the 10-time NBA All-Star’s motion described as “cyber-stalking.”

“Ray has not made any contact with Coleman, and most assuredly is not stalking him either in person or online … Ray wants nothing to do with Coleman and merely wishes to be left alone,” the motion read.

“Ray regrets ever engaging with this person online and is thankful they never met in person,” Allen’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, said. “This experience has negatively impacted Ray, and he hopes that others might use his mistake to learn the dangers of communicating online with strangers.”

When Ray Allen’s catfishing scandal hit the internet, people flocked to Twitter to collectively ask “WTF?!” with a bunch of jokes and memes.

“RHOA” Star Eva Marcille Reveals She’s Pregnant With Her Second Child

Model Eva Marcille certainly has something to extra thankful for this Thanksgiving. The new Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed she is expecting baby No. 2!

Marcille exclusively revealed to People magazine that she is five months pregnant with a baby boy. This is her second child, but her first with her boyfriend, Atlanta mayoral candidate Michael Sterling.

Eva’s first baby daddy is singer/songwriter Kevin McCall, who was dragged on social media earlier this year for threatening Sterling, saying, “I hope you are ready to meet me face to face. It won’t be much talking… U will be dealt with quick and brief.

The America’s Next Top Model winner admits her new bundle of joy was a surprise for her and Michael.

“My body felt super weird. I didn’t know what was going on. I went to the doctor and because of my symptoms, he decided to do an ultrasound to see if I had any cysts or tumors or fibroids or things of that nature.

“He did an ultrasound and lo and behold, we were seven and a half weeks pregnant, I was like, ‘What?!’ I was expecting the worst only to find out I was carrying a life. It was crazy. I was shocked and terrified all at the same time.”

She also candidly revealed that it took Sterling a few days to adjust to the news given that he was in the middle of a political campaign and an unexpected pregnancy was “not part of the agenda,” she said.

“When I initially told him, he was like, ‘Oh, okay,’ and I could tell he was surprised and didn’t want to overreact or react in a way that he would regret or that would scare me.”

“A few days later, like the lawyer he is, he took an opportunity to assess the situation and think it through and analyze. We talked about it again, and he was excited. Which was a huge relief to me — excitement is what we want.”

The couple already has a name picked out: Michael Todd Sterling Jr. “We have a junior, which is kind of terrifying to me because Michael is the most ambitious person I’ve ever met,” Marcille noted.

“So, for our son to now have to live up to his dad, it lets me know that there is a great promise on his life, but it’s also terrifying because he has so much to live up to,” she added.

It’s also a good thing that she’s having a boy because Marcille’s 3-year-old daughter, Marley, was not feeling a baby sister. “Make it a brother,” the little girl told her mother when she was told she was going to have a new sibling.

“I thought that was adorable, but at the time, I had no idea what I was having, so my fear [about] this extremely expressive and outgoing young girl [was] if this baby came out to be a little girl, that might not be a great situation for Marley. However, I found out soon after that I was having a boy, and I felt like she willed it in her favor.”

Eva Marcille joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta for its 10th season, though she has yet to make her debut. It’s unknown if her pregnancy will also be revealed on the show. RHOA airs Sundays on Bravo.

Cyntoia Brown: Fast Facts About Former Child Sex Slave Serving Life Prison Sentence for Killing Her Abuser

A number of celebrities and social justice activists are rallying around a former child sex slave who is currently serving a life prison sentence at the Tennessee Prison for Women for shooting and killing her abuser in 2004 when she was just 16 years old.

When she was a teen, Cyntoia Brown ran away from home and met a young nicknamed “Kutthroat,” who forced her into drugs and prostitution. Kutthroat introduced Brown to a 43-year-old real estate agent named Johnny Allen. She said she was afraid of Allen, and he was acting weird before she fatally shot him in 2004 in Nashville, according to the Associated Press.

In 2011, Brown and her case were extensively covered in a documentary by Filmmaker Dan Birman, who documented the case for seven years. In the film, Brown explained her abuse and how it made her paranoid. “She was picked up by a 43-year-old man,” Birman said. “Cyntoia was 16 years old.”

Brown’s case, which was tried in adult court, has recently been highlighted in an investigation by Nashville’s Fox 17 and, as a result, has garnered a ton of publicity and national media attention. The now 29-year-old is being called a sex trafficking victim and many say that due to changes in the way cases like hers are prosecuted these days, she wouldn’t be sentenced to life behind bars.

Here’s what you need to know about Cyntoia Brown and her case:

Cyntoia Brown said she was frightened by Allen’s “strange behavior,” and she shot him to escape.

Cyntoia Brown was living with a man nicknamed “Cut-throat” who she said forced her prostitution. Cut-throat was physically and verbally abusive to Cyntoia and threatened to find her if she ever tried to leave him.

In August 2004 Cut-throat told Brown to go out and make some money. A man named Johnny Mitchell Allen picked her up on the street, bought her some food and asked her to go back to his house.

According to AP, this is what happened that day:

He drove her back to his house where his strange behavior frightened her and made her want to escape. When she couldn’t sneak away, she said she wanted to nap. He lay down with her but didn’t fall asleep. He kept getting up and standing over her. She became more panicked, convinced something was going to happen to her. Finally, she shrugged off his advances and, as he rolled over, she took a gun from her purse and shot him once in the head.

According to Fox 17 Nashville, in her court testimony, she said Allen “was a sharpshooter in the Army.” She said, “I’m sitting here thinking if he does something, what am I going to do?”

Brown has never denied her crime and admitted that she shot and killed Allen. “I shot him,” she said shortly after the crime. “I executed him.”

She said she was used to being beaten, choked and having a gun pointed at her, and that affected her judgment. Even though what Brown did could be considered self-defense, a jury convicted her of first-degree murder and she was sentenced to life in prison in 2006.

Her case has since brought attention to child sex and prostitution. In 2011, laws in Tennessee were changed, prohibiting anyone aged 18 or younger to be charged with prostitution.

“She was being sex trafficked. The pimp’s name was Kutthroat,” Davidson County Juvenile Court Administrator Kathryn Sinback told Fox 17.

“She did kill someone, she deeply regrets it, but she was a child and she was being exploited,” End of Slavery TN founder Derri Smith told Fox 17. “[There’s] no such thing as a child prostitute or a teen prostitute, I think we’ve had to have a cultural mind shift.”

Brown has since appealed her guilty verdict, but so far, unfortunately, those appeals haven’t been successful.

Read official court documents from Brown’s case below:

A documentary called “Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story” has helped bring attention to Brown’s case.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM-qX2JUYjU

In 2011, PBS’s Independent Lens series released a documentary highlighting Cyntoia Brown’s case called “Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story,” which was produced and directed by Daniel Birman.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w52MVsUGNkY

In 2004, Cyntoia Brown was arrested for murder. There was no question that a 43-year-old man is dead and that she killed him. What mystified filmmaker Daniel Birman was just how common violence among youth is, and just how rarely we stop to question our assumptions about it. He wondered in this case what led a girl — who grew up in a reasonable home environment — to this tragic end?

Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story explores Cyntoia’s history and her future. Without attempting to excuse her crime as youthful indiscretion nor to vilify her as an example of a generation gone off the rails, Birman simply follows Cyntoia through six years of her life after the crime, and searches for answers to persistent questions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4OZoW8GA_c

Birman told Fox 17 Nashville that Brown came from a family of women who were victims of sexual violence. Both her grandmother and mother were raped. “We started the conversation, this is a young girl who’s at the tail end of three generations of violence against women,” Birman said. “She had no chance.”

Adding to the tragedy of the case, Brown, who was given up for adoption by her biological mother Georgina Mitchell when she was two years old, is also a victim of fetal alcohol syndrome. Georgina admitted to abusing alcohol while she was pregnant with Brown.

Effects of fetal alcohol syndrome include intellectual disabilities that affect a person’s ability to think rationally and understand the consequences of her actions, as well as neurological, emotional, and behavioral issues.

According to AP, Richard Adler, a clinical and forensic psychologist, testified in 2012 that despite Brown’s high IQ, she was functioning at the age of a 13 or 14-year-old when she killed her rapist.

In addition to abusing alcohol while pregnant, Brown’s mother also started using crack cocaine when Cyntoia was eight months old and she gave Cyntoia up for adoption to a woman named Ellenette Brown.

The film shows that even though Ellenette Brown provided a generally stable home for Cyntoia, she hadn’t had sufficient stability in her life for proper emotional development, and as a young teenager, she began abusing alcohol and drugs.

Brown had become a runaway by 2004, and by the time she met Cut-throat, she had already been the victim of several rapes and physical abuse.

Brown earned an Associate’s Degree from Lipscomb University while she was in prison and has worked in the juvenile justice system mentoring women.

While she was in prison, Cyntoia Brown worked towards obtaining a degree from Lipscomb University. Brown graduated from the school in December 2015 with an associate’s degree she earned while in prison, and she’s currently working towards completing her bachelor’s degree.

Preston Shipp, a former prosecutor turned criminal justice advocate who taught Brown, told Nashville Scene that she was his star student and said that he thinks she would make a good litigator herself. Last year, Shipp wrote in an op-ed for The Huffington Post that Brown is a victim who shouldn’t have been convicted of murder:

Cyntoia’s story is tragic, but it is by no means unique. Numbers are hard to estimate, given the hidden nature of human trafficking, but as many as 300,000 children are trafficked for commercial sex each year in the United States. The crisis is immense and complex. There are no easy answers or quick fixes. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that the victims of trafficking are, in fact, victims.

Cyntoia, a child, was a victim of cruel exploitation before she pulled the trigger, and she did not cease to be a victim thereafter. Recent scientific data has confirmed what common sense has always taught us: children are different from adults. Children, even children who are sixteen and seventeen years old, are not yet physiologically and psychologically formed. Cyntoia is not the same person that she was when she was sixteen. She has overcome her awful past, is compassionate and caring, has a quick wit, and is a straight-A college student. Imprisoning her for the rest of her life constitutes a failure on the part of society to treat children as children and victims as victims.

As we commemorate Human Trafficking Awareness month, we should be especially concerned with healing victims of the kind of trauma caused by being trafficked for sex, even if those victims have acted out violently.

We must invest in programs that bring about lasting change because we know that people, especially young people like Cyntoia, have great potential to grow and transform into something profound and wholesome and altogether different from their traumatic past. Toward that end, I am grateful that my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, recently announced the creation of a Human Trafficking Court, the goals of which are to identify victims of human trafficking and assist them by providing drug or mental health treatment, job and life skills training, or access to housing. Nashville will be just the fifth city in the country to implement such a court. In so doing, the city implicitly recognizes that people who are forced into sex should be treated as victims, not as criminal defendants.

In spite of everything that has happened to her, Cyntoia has managed to persevere. Had she been a recipient of intervention, counseling, drug treatment, and not merely decades of punishment, there is no telling what she could have achieved.

During her time behind bars, in addition to earning her degree, Brown has mentored women while working as an unpaid consultant for the juvenile justice system. “I myself can create opportunities to help people [behind bars],” Brown said.

Kathryn Sinback, Davidson County’s Juvenile Court administrator, told Fox 17, “She has used her experience to be able to make things better, juvenile justice, human trafficking and safety and security for youth and so I think what she has to offer is invaluable.”

Sinback, who was Brown’s public defender, told The Tennessean, “We are still working collaboratively to try and work towards changing the laws for juveniles sentenced to life and life without true parole.”

Kim Kardashian tweeted about Cyntoia’s case and said she’s contacted her attorneys to try to help her. Rihanna and LeBron James have also spoken out about the case and slammed the U.S. justice system.

Kim Kardashian tweeted about Cyntoia Brown’s case Tuesday (Nov. 21) to her 57 million+ followers and asked for her case to be reviewed. Kim also said she has reached out to her personal attorneys to see if they can help Cyntoia get a new trial and reverse her conviction.

“The system has failed,” she tweeted. “It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right. I’ve called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this. #FreeCyntoiaBrown”

Other celebs have also joined the effort, including Rihanna, who wrote on Instagram, “did we somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way?? cause….. Something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life! To each of you responsible for this child’s sentence I hope to God you don’t have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already! #FREECYNTOIABROWN #HowManyMore”

LeBron James has also spoken out against Cyntoia’s case, writing on Instagram, “What’s really going on here man!?!? Like seriously though. Guess she didn’t have the RIGHT to finally defend herself huh?!? GTFOH. Cyntoia should be getting a award, medal of courage of sort instead of being locked up. But not only locked up, convicted as an adult and won’t be eligible for parole til 69 years of age!! She’s 29 now!”

The posts have led to the hashtag #FreeCyntoniaBrown to be a global trend across various social media platforms, including Twitter.

A petition on MoveOn.org has been set up to help bring awareness to Cyntoia Brown’s case. The petition, which has so far collected more than 100,000 signatures, asks for “love and compassion.”

Please view and share this with everyone you know and if you have a heart of mercy and compassion; please sign the petition. Misguided and lost children is an epidemic that we as adults should be responsible for; not the child. Although murder was committed in this case; adults have committed murder and received a lesser than a life sentence. This woman (who is now 25) was only a child at 16 years of age at the time of the incident when her 42 year old victim (a grown man who had lived his life) solicited sex with this child; He had the upper-hand being the adult and should have made the decision to help her seek a better way instead of co-signing on her destruction by soliciting sex. She received life in prison for her victims murder. As of today; she has already served 9 years in prison.

Recent U.S. Supreme court rulings on life sentences for teens have had no impact on Brown’s case, and she won’t be eligible for parole until she’s 67 years old.

In recent years, the United States Supreme Court has issued rulings that require states to review life without parole jail sentences. According to The Tennessean, since 2014, at least 24 states have passed laws that require an automatic review of life sentences for teenagers after they have served a certain number of years.

But the decision has no effect on Brown’s case and others like it because it applies only to life sentences where there is no possibility of parole or automatic review of a sentence after a period of time.

Nearly 200 people are serving life sentences in Tennessee for crimes they committed when they were teens, and The Supreme Court’s rulings have had no impact because state law already includes a mandatory review after 51 years, which social justice advocates call a “virtual life sentence.”

“A life sentence in Tennessee is basically life without parole,” Kathy Sinback said.

Along with pushing reform that led to the change in Tennessee law banning prostitution charges against people under the age of 18, Brown’s case has also been cited by legislators who hope to pass a bill that will give teens serving life sentences a second chance. Such a law would require a review of teen lifers’ sentences after 15 or 20 years, which would give 29-year-old Brown a second chance at life when she reaches 31 or 36 years old.

In 2006, Sinback was appointed to represent Brown and has since helped lead efforts in Tennessee to change the law.

“You are basically taking a kid at age 14 or 15 or 16 and making a decision about the rest of their life based on who they are at that age, and they’re not developed human beings at that time,” Sinback said. “You have kids at their peak of poor judgment, impulsivity and lack of development and we’re taking that one thing that they do and locking them into sentences that are going to last for the rest of their lives.”

The bill has been introduced by Tennessee lawmakers and advocates twice, including an attempt in 2016, but they have been unsuccessful getting it passed.

Twitter Is Freaking Out Over Unconfirmed Reports Aretha Franklin Is Dying of Cancer

With icons like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Prince gone, we have to protect our remaining living legends at all costs, which is why Twitter is going crazy over rumors that Aretha Franklin has died (or is dying) of cancer.

Well, the good news is that those rumors are 100% false. Aretha Franklin is NOT dead, nor is she dying, contrary to the latest death hoax that has hit social media.

It all started with a tweet from this fake azz account (which has less than 50 followers):

https://twitter.com/ArethaFrankIinn/status/932871460808310784

At first glance, the tweet appears to be believable, but if you look closely, you can clearly tell that it is from a fake account. While the name on the account reads “Aretha Franklin,” the username says “@ArethaFranklinn” (with two n’s). Aretha Franklin’s real twitter account is here, and hasn’t been updated in well over two years.

Making matters worse, Fameolous, a somewhat credible Instagram blog, seems to be perpetuating the rumors with this post:

Aretha Franklin not doing good and may pass soon. Celebrities are at the hospital saying goodbye. Aretha has been battling cancer for a while now we are told. We have a source inside the hospital where Ms. Franklin is currently being held & will keep you guys updated.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BbvvKmXlxWI/

And now, Twitter is freaking out over the possibility of 2017 taking Aretha Franklin away from us, and as a result, her name is currently a top trending topic on Twitter.

The rumors come just one day after the death of the iconic actress and singer Della Reese.

While there has been ZERO confirmation of Aretha Franklin’s rumored death by any reputable news outlets, that hasn’t stopped the internet from voicing their concerns via Twitter:

According to NewsOne, Aretha Franklin, 75, has been a victim of declining health rumors for the past several years. It seems that every few months, there’s a new story about Franklin having cancer.

The 75-year-old legendary soul singer has been dogged by rumors of cancer since at least 2011, which is likely fueling what seems to be resuscitated rumor and innuendo.

Rumors of the diva’s health problems resurfaced in May, when she announced to an audience that she was battling an “upper respiratory viral infection.” Still, she managed to sing at the event honoring Clive Davis, the New York Post reported at the time.

That same month, the National Enquirer published reports of Franklin having lost more than 100 pounds because of a “cancer relapse,” an anonymous source told the news outlet known for gossip. “She was due to have radical chemotherapy treatments, and was told by doctors she needed to lose weight if she wanted to survive.”

The following month, she canceled a concert in Toronto scheduled for July because of “doctors orders,” according to the Daily Mail.

However, Franklin seems to be doing fine these days. The Detroit News reported that she made an appearance at Elton John’s gala in New York City on November 8th. According to the report, Franklin “closed the event with a collection of songs,” and the gala was successful in raising over $4 million for AIDS research. Additionally, the report didn’t mention anything about any apparent health concerns.

On top of that, entertainment reporter Shaun Robinson has taken to Twitter to quell any concerns regarding Franklin’s health.

“Good Morning, Everyone. I just spoke to one of Ms. Franklin’s family friends in my hometown of Detroit,” Robinson tweeted Tuesday morning (Nov. 21). “They spoke to Aretha moments ago and asked me to tell you please don’t believe this news that was trending. Have a good day.”

In 2011, when stories surfaced that she was battling pancreatic cancer, Franklin told Robinson in an interview, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from. I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody.”

Nonetheless, she did acknowledge that she was experiencing some health issues. The month prior, she released a statement via the Associated Press commenting on a surgery she underwent that was “highly successful,” though she did not say what she was being treated for. “God is still in control,” she said. “I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country.”

Aretha Franklin has had an illustrious career in the music industry, which has spanned over a period of nearly six decades. In February 2017, she shocked fans by announcing that she was retiring after this year. She later clarified, however, that she still planned to record music, but she would no longer be touring, which, at her age, is completely understandable.

Franklin also revealed that she plans to open up an intimate club called Aretha’s, which would be located in downtown Detroit (her hometown). “From time to time I would sing,” she explained to the Detroit Free Press, “and of course, I would have special artists come in to perform for the city that people in Detroit like — Detroit favorites.”

Della Reese Cause of Death: How Did the Iconic Actress & Singer Die?

Della Reese, the iconic actress and music icon best known for her starring roles in movies like Harlem Nights and dozens of TV series such as Touched By An Angel, has died. She was 86 years old.

How did Della Reese die? What was her cause of death?

While her official cause of death hasn’t been revealed, the beloved singer and actress had reportedly battled diabetes for years, and her family said she passed away Sunday (Nov. 19) in her California home.

Her Angel co-star and longtime friend Roma Downey released the following statement exclusively to People:

“On behalf of her husband, Franklin Lett, and all her friends and family, I share with you the news that our beloved Della Reese has passed away peacefully at her California home last evening surrounded by love. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and pastor, as well as an award-winning actress and singer. Through her life and work she touched and inspired the lives of millions of people.

“She was a mother to me and I had the privilege of working with her side by side for so many years on Touched By an Angel. I know heaven has a brand new angel this day. Della Reese will be forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, sweet angel. We love you.”

Della Reese (born: Delloreese Patricia Early) co-starred alongside Roma Downey on “Touched by An Angel,” playing the role of the angel supervisor Tess. Reese had other TV roles in shows like The Mod Squad, Police Woman, Sanford and Son, The Love Boat, Crazy Like a Fox, 227, MacGyver, Designing Women, Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven, The Young and the Restless and many more.

Reese also appeared as a panelist on several episodes of the popular TV game show Match Game, and was the first black woman to guest host The Tonight Show in 1970.

In addition to her co-starring role alongside Eddie Murphy as brothel club owner madam Vera in Harlem Nights, Reese also appeared in the films A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and Beauty Shop, among others. She also played the voice of the wise, elderly dinosaur Eema in Walt Disney’s CGI film Dinosaur.

Della Reese was also an accomplished gospel singer, having been discovered by Mahalia Jackson when she was just 13 years old, and went on to become an ordained minister in the 1980s.

Della Reese was preceded in death by her daughter, Deloreese, and leaves behind children James, Franklin, and Dominique, as well as her husband, Franklin Lett.

Gabby Douglas Slammed by Simone Biles for Victim-Blaming Comments Regarding Teammate Aly Raisman

Gabby Douglas, once again, accidentally finds herself in the middle of controversy. The Olympic gymnast was dragged on Twitter and even by teammate Simone Biles for victim blaming women who have been sexually assaulted, including fellow teammate Aly Raisman.

Aly Raisman bravely came forward to accuse former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar of sexual abuse during their treatment sessions. Over 100 women have already accused the doctor of abuse, who is now in jail facing 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual assault.

Following a 60 Minutes interview detailing the abuse, Raisman faced some backlash for speaking out, with the haters using Raisman’s nude ESPN and Sports Illustrated swimsuit photoshoots to victim shame her. Raisman responded to the criticism explaining that the way a woman dresses is irrelevant to sexual assault/harassment. “STOP VICTIM SHAMING,” she wrote on Twitter.

Cue America’s darling (in 2012) and Raisman’s 2012 and 2016 Olympic teammate Gabby Douglas, with the victim shaming. In a now-deleted Tweet, Douglas responded to Raisman’s post stating women have the responsibility to “dress modestly and be classy.”

Oh, Gabby! That is the absolute worst statement to make, especially when sexual assault victims are banding together and finally finding the courage to speak out against their abusers.

The comment caused Douglas to be the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter. Fellow “Final Five” member Simone Biles quickly responded to Douglas’ tweet and expressed her shock and disappointment.

Douglas deleted her original tweet and apologized. She conceded that sexual assault is never OK or warranted and that she stands by her teammates. She even utilized the #MeToo hashtag, but it’s unclear if she, too, has had a similar experience.

This story honestly pains me to write, because: (1) Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles are the epitome of Black Girl Magic. (2) Victim sharing is always wrong. And (3) I am a true fan of artistic gymnastics (and not just during the Olympics).

Douglas is the first black woman to win the all-around Olympic gold medal and she passed the baton to Biles, who is now considered to be one of the greatest gymnasts in history. Unfortunately, the two have not been as close as we would all like.

Douglas notably faced heavy criticism during the 2016 Olympics for not placing her hand over heart during the national anthem as The Final Five won the gold team medal. During this controversy, it seemed her team did not rally around her.

She faced more criticism days later for not standing when Biles won the all-around gold medal, an event Douglas was unable to defend her title in due to a 2 per country/team rule, despite placing third in the world (behind Biles and Rasiman) during the qualification round in Rio.

Douglas has since separated herself from The Final Five team and has noticeably been absent from several major group appearances.

Gabby Douglas is my girl, but I also have to call it as I see it. And, unfortunately, she was terribly wrong in this situation. Hopefully, this sparks a conversation between her and Raisman (and maybe Biles) so that she better understands sexual assault and the problems of victim blaming.

Tyrese Granted Joint Custody of 10-Year-Old Daughter, Ex-Wife Denied Permanent Restraining Order

Tyrese’s emotional plea for the court not to take his daughter away has officially been granted. A judge has denied the actor’s ex-wife a permanent restraining order and has awarded him joint custody of their child.

After several weeks of a messy custody battle, Tyrese was granted 50/50 custody of his 10-year-old daughter Shayla on Friday (Nov. 17). The shared custody will begin in January, while Tyrese and ex-wife Norma Gibson agreed on an arrangement for him to see Shayla during the holidays.

The judge also denied Norma’s request for a permanent restraining order against the Fast & Furious star. She claimed the actor abused their daughter to the point where she was unable to sit. Norma also claimed he had physically abused her and others in the past.

However, the judged ruled that there was not an ongoing pattern of harassment by Tyrese against Norma, reports The Blast. The site also says Tyrese was seen crying after the judge’s ruling.

Child services was also unable to find sufficient evidence that Tyrese abused his daughter after conducting an investigation.

Tyrese suffered an emotional breakdown on video earlier this month because of the stress caused by the custody battle and a bad reaction to anti-depression medication. The video went viral and caused many to worry about his mental health.

Hopefully, with the case finally settled, Tyrese will get better.

Usher Herpes Accuser Laura Helm’s $20 Million Lawsuit Dismissed At Lawyer’s Request

Usher has mostly played it cool regarding his herpes scandal. And now there’s one less accuser to worry about, at least for now.

According to TMZ, Laura Helm’s $20 million lawsuit against Usher has been dismissed at her lawyer’s request. It’s unclear why the lawyer made the request, however, the case was dismissed without prejudice, “with intent to refile,” meaning Helm may sue the singer again.

The move comes just weeks after Helm’s original lawyer, Lisa West, formally filed a motion to withdraw from the case because she could no longer “effectively represent” Helm. But sources tell TMZ Helm fired West and it was her new lawyer who immediately requested the lawsuit be dismissed.

Though it’s not confirmed, Helm’s case may have fallen apart due to a leaked phone conversation in which she tells a friend she only had protected sex with Usher and had no plans to sue him. The conversation was recorded just two days before she filed her $20 million lawsuit.

She previously claimed that she had unprotected sex with the singer and he infected her with herpes. Explicit details of their two alleged encounters were revealed in the legal documents.

Usher’s lawyer did not comment to TMZ regarding the case being dismissed. However, in October, Usher requested a judge drop the case because Helm “assumed the risk of contracting an STD” by having unprotected sex and could not prove she contracted herpes from him.

Jennifer Hudson Files Protective Order Against David Otunga After He Got Physical & Taunted Her With a Gun

The recent split between Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga is about to get really messy. The singer has filed a protective order against Otunga, claiming the former pro wrestler has become “aggressive” and “threatening.” He’s been ordered to stay away from his ex-fiancée and their 8-year-old son.

Stating Otunga exhibited “aggressive, threatening and harassing behavior toward me,” Hudson obtained a protection order against him. “I am now living in fear of further action David might take,” she said.

After nearly 10 years together, the couple reportedly broke up several months ago. However, Otunga remained in the couple’s home (which is owned by Hudson) and provided “residential care” for their son, David Jr., while Hudson constantly traveled for work (like Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Booby” Gibson).

However, with each fighting for full-custody of the 8-year-old, the split has become contentious and a custody battle is brewing. Things came to a head on Wednesday night (Nov. 15) when Otunga became physical after accusing Hudson of dating a producer and getting his son involved in the matter.

Hudson described the frightening details in legal documents obtained by TMZ:

She claims on Wednesday she was at a recording session in Chicago with their son, David Jr., and David made a series of phone calls to reach her. When he couldn’t get her, he asked their son to record the scene. Hudson says David wanted their son to show she was dating one of her producers … something she denies.

She says when she got home David was visibly angry, grabbed David Jr. by the hand and physically pushed Hudson out of the master suite. She claims their son, a makeup artist and an assistant all witnessed the incident.

Hudson also detailed a separate incident in which she claims Otunga taunted her with a gun. He left a gun and holster on the kitchen counter, but claimed it was a movie prop.

“David knows that I am and have been very sensitive to firearms after my mother and my brother were murdered,” Hudson stated. “I believe that he left it out to taunt, intimidate and frighten me, which he absolutely accomplished.”

Cops arrived at Hudson’s Chicago home on Thursday and removed Otunga from the residence. He’s been ordered to stay away from Hudson and David Jr.

David Otunga denies these allegations. His lawyer, Tracy M. Rizzo released a statement to People magazine:

“As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in the WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award-winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

Rizzo also described the order of protection as “meritless” and accused Hudson of trying “to gain an unfair advantage in the custody dispute.”

TMZ also confirmed that Chicago police had opened a domestic battery investigation in the matter, which is classified as a misdemeanor.

Kenya Moore Undergoing IVF Treatments in Barbados in Hopes of Finally Becoming a Mother

It’s no secret that Kenya Moore is as desperate to be a mother as she was to be a wife. Now that she has the husband, she’s wasting no time in trying to get pregnant. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star has even gone out of the country for fertility treatments.

Earlier this week, Kenya was spotted in Barbados and entering a building where the renowned Barbados Fertility Centre is located. Reps for the Kenya confirmed to TMZ that the 46-year-old is, in fact, undergoing IVF treatments.

TMZ reports Kenya may remain in Barbados for several weeks because the process could take that long. Kenya’s husband, Marc Daly, is not currently with her, but is expected to arrive in the Caribbean on Friday (Nov. 17).

Kenya imagined the joy children will bring in a video post of her “twins,” King and Twirl and asked fans for prayers.

“My twins #kingsandtwirl they bring so much fulfillment in my life, calm, happiness and purpose. I can only imagine what children do. Please pray for me.”

Real Housewives of Atlanta cameras were also missing. However, Kenya is expected to talk about IVF and her experience with wanting to become a mother during the reunion taping next year.

Kenya does not have any children, while her husband has at least one. She wished him a Happy Father’s Day on social media earlier this year.

RHOA airs Sundays on Bravo.

Lil Peep Dead: Fast Facts to Know About the Rising Rapper & Internet Sensation

New York-based rapper Lil Peep (born: Gustav Åhr), who was gaining traction online from his buzzworthy songs like “Benz Truck” and “Awful Things,” has died at age 21. His death was reportedly the result of a drug overdose and happened before he was set to perform a concert in Tucson, Arizona Wednesday night (Nov. 15).

UPDATE: Lil Peep Took a Nap Before His Concert and Never Woke Up, Police Report Reveals

Peep’s manager, Mikey Cortez, confirmed the sad news on Instagram early Thursday morning, writing, “I’m completely heart broken and lost right now. I can’t even feel it’s not real. I love you and I’ll miss you always. One of the realest. Please someone tell me this isn’t real.”

According to a thread on Reddit, the emerging rapper/singer/Internet sensation was found dead on his tour bus from an apparent drug overdose.

Here are some things you need to know about Lil Peep’s life and death:

Lil Peep was found dead on his tour bus from an apparent drug overdose before his concert in Tucson, Arizona.

According to a fan who attended the concert in Tucson, Arizona Wednesday night (Nov. 15), the rapper was found dead on his tour bus (seen in video footage above) from an apparent drug overdose.

“LiL PeeP died from a drug overdose at estimated 22:00 (10 p.m.) local time,” the fan shared on Reddit. “For those of you that don’t know, Lil Peep was a soundcloud rapper who blended alt rock with rap. His music helped alot of people through depression and other hard times.”

Another fan wrote, “Bus is caution taped off, fire and ambulance left, cops guarding bus, staff telling people not to record, threatening to take people’s phones, saying recording is disrespectful. Bexxy (one of PeeP’s best friends) is outside the venue crying saying this ain’t happening and he doesn’t want to be alive.”

Peep’s best friend Bexey unknowingly shared video footage showing the rapper after overdosing on his tour bus.

Amid breaking news reports of Lil Peep’s death came shocking video footage showing rapper immediately after overdosing on drugs. The video was recorded by Peep’s best friend Bexey, who seemingly was unaware that the rapper was either dead or dying from a drug overdose.

Watch below (WARNING: GRAPHIC FOOTAGE):

“Apparently Peep’s in the back of the bus doing press-ups, sit-ups, working on his six pack, his muscles. I’m gonna see it for myself,” Bexey jokingly said to the camera before turning it around to show an obviously unconscious Peep with his mouth wide open.

The footage was initially shared on Bexey’s Instagram story before it was quickly deleted, likely after he found out his friend was actually dead and not just sleeping off a drug high.

“My brother just died in my arms, man,” Bexey said in a subsequent video posted on his Instagram page. “I’m done with this sh*t, man, forever. F**k this sh*t.”

Lil Peep was a high school drop-out who quickly built a huge following online with his music via YouTube and SoundCloud.

Lil Peep was born in Pennsylvania and was raised in Long Island, New York by his mother Liza after his father left the family when he was much younger.

Speaking about his absent father in the past, Peep said, “Yeah, yeah. I haven’t spoken to him since either. I don’t really f**k with my dad.”

Peep attended Long Beach High School, but soon dropped out and finished his schooling at home with his mom, who was a first grade teacher.

The rapper, who had a large internet following in the millions (nearly 900K Instagram followers, over 200K Twitter followers, 235K Facebook likes and more than 300K YouTube subscribers), had a promising music career ahead of him.

After dropping out of high school, Lil Peep began recording music and posting his work online via SoundCloud and YouTube, which is how he built his huge internet following.

On YouTube, a number of Peep’s music videos had racked up millions of views, and his SoundCloud account boasted a following of more than 300K. His most popular videos were “Benz Truck” (11M+ views) and “Awful Things” (10M+ views).

His debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, was released on September 1st.

The rapper’s drug-infused anthems and his social media accounts offered a glimpse into his lifestyle, which often included him drinking heavily and abusing prescription drugs. His album included numerous references to his use of cocaine, molly, Xanax, ecstasy and other drugs.

Within 24 hours of his death, he posted photos of himself taking Xanax and talking about dying, saying, “When I die You’ll love me.”

He wrote in another post:

I just wana be everybody’s everything I want too much from people but then I don’t want anything from them at the same time u feel me I don’t let people help me but I need help but not when I have my pills but that’s temporary one day maybe I won’t die young and I’ll be happy? What is happy I always have happiness for like 10 seconds and then it’s gone. I’m getting so tired of this

Lil Peep suffered from depression and anxiety, and previously said, “Some days I wake up and I’m like, ‘f**k I wish I didn’t wake up.'”

Highsnobiety interviewed Lil Peep last month, and wrote of the star: “The Lil Peep hype is a no brainer. Between his music, his look and his attitude, he’s a triple threat-perfect package for instant intrigue and controversy.”

During the chat, the confident rapper said of his fame, “I always knew that it was going to happen, and it happened so quick because it just comes very easily to me. Not to be that guy but it’s just so easy, I can do all this stuff in my sleep, it just comes naturally.”

Lil Peep was very open about his drug abuse and battles with mental health, which included severe anxiety and multiple suicide attempts.

In the interview, when asked about the last time he cried, he said, “I cry a lot, I get stressed out, I get overwhelmed. There’s no point in getting a bunch of attention and you know, wasting it. You got to do something important with the attention you get.”

Earlier this year, in a separate interview with Pitchfork, Peep revealed that he was not medicated for depression and insisted that he doesn’t like to pay for drugs, but he would take any drug that “comes my way.”

He said, “I’m not (medicated for depression). Everyone always begged me to, but I don’t want to do it. I just like smoking weed and whatever other drug comes my way. Most people usually have to set out to find drugs. I don’t like to pay for it. I just like to get it for free.”

He continued, “I suffer from depression and some days I wake up and I’m like, ‘f**k I wish I didn’t wake up.’ That was part of why I moved to California, trying to get away from the place that was doing that to me, and the people I was around. I realized it was just myself—it’s a chemical imbalance in my brain.”

Here’s how the internet sensation, who had the words “Get Cake Die Young” tattooed on his forehead, was described by Pitchfork:

“He sings from his throat in half-rapped ruminations about guzzling drugs, suicide, and ex-girlfriends, all facets of his real life.”

Lil Peep attended Paris Fashion Week in June 2017 and performed at the Day N Night Festival in September.

Lil Peep’s massive internet following provided him with a ton of publicity. In June 2017, he was photographed attending the Balmain Menswear and Haider Ackermann Menswear shows during Paris Fashion Week.

And in September, he was invited to perform at the Day N Night festival (video footage above).

At the time of his death, the rising rap star was on tour in support of his debut album. Lil Peep’s “Come Over When You’re Sober” tour was scheduled to end on Thursday (Nov. 16) in Santa Ana, California.

Lil Peep recently came out as bisexual and previously dated actress Bella Thorne.

Back in August of this year, Lil Peep took to Twitter and opened up about his sexuality to fans.

“Yes I’m bi sexual,” he tweeted. “Who wants a kiss.”

Back in September, it was rumored that Lil Peep was dating actress Bella Thorne, however, the two were no longer together at the time of Peep’s death.

Thorne appeared heartbroken as she posted an emotional Instagram story as she grieved over Peep’s sudden death. The Famous In Love star was seen lying in her bed crying as she spoke briefly about the rapper.

Talking to the camera, a clearly emotional Bella said: “I just wanted to say anybody out there who’s a Lil Peep fan, you guys know how talented he was, you guys know how great he was. Well he was even more f**ing great as a person.”

She added on Twitter: “Peep you deserved more out of life. Life didn’t do your greatness justice.”

Bexxy (one of PeeP’s best friends) is outside the venue crying saying this ain’t happening and he doesn’t want to be alive.”
