Drake and Wale // 14th Annual GQ Men of the Year Party in Hollywood

GQ Men of the Year Wale and Drake attended the party celebrating their honor at the Chateau Marmont Wednesday evening (Nov 18) in Hollywood. According to the popular men’s magazine, Wale, Drake and Kid Cudi have “killed” gangsta Hip-Hop, earning each of them the “Man of the Year” title.

GQ says: Have you been listening to hip-hop this year? If not, we’ve got good news: The gangster persona is finally dead, and these are the kids who killed it. One song at a time, they build a new era in which duct-taped kilos, exotic firearms, and freaky girls are out and real life is the focus. … Wale is as famous for his live shows as for the slick-witted lyricism of his debut Attention Deficit. Kid Cudi is the cut up who scored with the stoner anthem “Day N Nite” and his album Man on the Moon. And then there’s Drake, who found himself turning down multimillion-dollar offers after his single “Best I Ever Had” exploded. (It helps that the girls like Drake. A lot.) Drake’s debut, Thank Me Later, is easily the most anticipated album of 2010.

So what do these underdogs think about being cast as gangster slayers? “The dope boy is going to be a fixture of black culture as long as ‘thug’ is a legitimate option alongside ‘job,’” Drake says. “But I’m not going to rap about how much crack I’ve sold.” Cudi also laughs at the idea of talking tough. “Anybody from Cleveland will tell you I wasn’t in the streets,” he says. “Ask them, They’ll say. ‘Scott was the goofy class clown.’”

The celebrity guest list for the 14th annual GQ Men of the Year Party also included Kobe Bryant, Gabrielle Union, Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian and more. Continue reading for the rest of the pics!

Lloyd & Nicki Minaj on the set of Young Money & Lloyd's new "Bedrock" music video

“Call me Mr. Flinstone, I can make your bed rock!”

Young Money and LLoyd teamed up for YM’s second single “Bedrock.” The artists that make up the track, other than Wayne and Lloyd, are Drake, Nicki Minaj, Gudda Gudda, Tyga and Jae Millz. Sidebar: Wayne doesn’t actually “rap” on the song, but at the end he shouts out just about everybody in Young Money.

The original version of the catchy track featured former Young Money member Omarion. But he was replaced by Lloyd shortly after the former B2K member and the Lil Wayne headed label/group parted ways. And we wouldn’t be surprised if Lloyd and Young Money were working out a deal of some sort seeing as Lloyd is currently a free agent. And he and Wayne are good friends and we believe he’d be a perfect fit for the team.

Anyway, the video for the Kane Beatz produced track was shot last Thursday (Nov 5) at an undisclosed location and above is a pic of Lloyd an Nicki chilling on the set. And you can check out more behind the scenes pics from the set of the clip, which should be premiering soon, when you continue reading!

Chris Brown // Vibe Magazine December 2009 Re-Launch

It sounds like R&B/pop entertainer Chris Brown and the iconic hip-hop magazine we all know and love as VIBE Magazine are teaming up to resurrect each other. Chris will cover the magazine’s official “come back issue,” out December 8th. ]

Hip-hop newcomer Drake will also have a shot at being a part of VIBE history as he has the alternate cover of the winter issue.

In the meantime, VIBE has released this one picture of Chris and no, this is not his cover shot. That should be making its way to the front pages of all the blogs shortly though.

Jay-Z

(01.) Jay-Z was given the honor of being the top emcee in the rap game for the year 2009, according to MTV. They give most of the credit due to his recent success with his latest album, The Blueprint 3.

Blueprint 3 is another Hov tour de force — and it destroys the myth that there’s an age limit on being a dope MC. At 39 years old, Jay is arguably still better than anybody on the mic today, rhyming with precision and grace. He throws buzzsaws right from the gate on the intro “What We Talking About,” where he raps about what he deems to be nonsense, like dwelling on rap beef.

DrakeHere’s a new track titled “Fear” from Young Money Ent. rapper Drake! This song is kinda deep…

Drake raps: “I never cried when Pac died, but I probably will when Hov does/And if my tears hold value/Then I will drop one for every single thing he showed us/And I’ll be standing in a puddle/I stay away from n*ggas that can land me in some trouble…”

The former Degrassi star told MTV: “I did this song that no one has ever heard before, ever. It’s a song called ‘Fear’. I recorded it when I did [EP] So Far Gone – the first verse and half of the second verse I had gotten through. But then I just stopped because it was getting eerie. It was getting where I didn’t know if I could finish it. And then the other night I had a moment and I finished the song. That’s gonna be the last song on the retail version of So Far Gone. And the third verse transitions into [album] Thank Me Later. So the last line of the third verse is gonna be the first line on my album.”
