Back in February, Jay Z purchased a music streaming service called “TIDAL” for $56 million from Swedish tech company Aspiro, and on Monday (Mar 30), the Hip Hop mogul officially announced TIDAL’s relaunch as the first-ever global music entertainment platform owned by artists during a star-studded press conference in New York City.

Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Madonna, Kanye West, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Usher were among the dozen or so well-known artists who not only showed up to press conference, but also updated their social media pages to reflect their involvement with the company.

During the press conference, Alicia Keys spoke briefly on behalf of the artists up on stage.

“We come together before you on this day, March 30, 2015 with one voice in unity in the hopes that today will be another one of those moments in time, a moment that will forever change the course of music history,” she said.

“Our goal is simple. We want to create a better service and a better experience for both fans and artists. And that is our promise to the world. Our mission goes beyond commerce. It goes beyond technology. Our intent is to preserve music’s importance in our lives.”

She added, “We believe that it is in everyone’s interest — fans, artists, and the industry as a whole — to preserve the value of music and to ensure a healthy and robust industry for years to come. Today is the day that we begin that journey together, all of us as one.”

At the end of Keys’ speech, each artist went up to a table in the center of the stage and signed a “declaration of independence.”

The purpose of Jay Z’s acquisition of TIDAL is to compete with popular streaming media services such as Spotify, Pandora, Vevo, iTunes and the Apple-owned Beats Music. TIDAL considers itself the first music streaming service that combines high-fidelity sound quality, HD music videos and expertly-curated editorial.

The service will cost $20/month (compared to Spotify’s $10/mo and Vevo’s $0/mo) and it will also pay artists up to twice as much as its rivals. Oh, and did we also tell you how the artists involved with the company each hold a 3% stake in the company?

At this point, you might be asking yourself, “Now why on earth would I pay TWICE as much for the same thing I can get on Spotify, making already super rich people even richer in the process?”

No one really knows how to answer that question, but with names like Jay Z, Beyonce, Madonna, Kanye West, Rihanna, Coldplay, etc. involved, it won’t be hard for them to find a user base.

Jay Z explained in an interview with Billboard why he and his millionaire musician friends decided to get into the streaming business.

“We didn’t like the direction music was going and thought maybe we could get in and strike an honest blow,” he said. “And if, you know, the very least we did was make people wake up and try to improve the free vs. paid system, and promote fair trade, then it would be a win for us anyway.”

Ohio Woman Stabbed Boyfriend Because He Ate All of the Salsa

A woman in Akron, Ohio allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the stomach because he ate all of their salsa.

Cleveland.com reports that on an otherwise quiet Sunday evening, 50-year-old Phyllis Jefferson and her 61-year-old boyfriend were enjoying some chips and salsa when Phyllis noticed that her boyfriend was eating up all of the salsa.

It didn’t take long for Jefferson to get pissed off and stab her selfish boyfriend right in the hip with a pen for not sharing. She then knocked over his TV, and as the man jumped up to catch the TV before it hit the ground, the woman allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the man right in the stomach.

Someone (most likely the boyfriend) called the police, and when they arrived, they found the boyfriend holding his stomach with his hands and shirt covered in blood.

Jefferson had already left the scene, but police eventually found her on a nearby interstate and arrested her. She was charged with felonious assault and one misdemeanor count of criminal endangering.

Jefferson’s boyfriend was taken to Akron General Medical Center, and Jefferson admitted that she stabbed the man.

A woman who clearly had too much to drink had to be rescued from her locked car after she fell asleep behind the wheel on a busy San Diego freeway, and the whole thing was caught on tape.

The woman, later identified as 25-year-old Amber Dlaine McKinney Morgan, was stopped in the middle of I-805 with cars speeding by early Friday when a local news cameraman noticed and called 911.

While waiting for police to arrive, 10News’ Paul Anderegg ran out to the woman’s car and tried to wake her up, but she was passed out drunk with the doors locked.

“She was out there for about 27 minutes,” Anderegg reportedly told Inside Edition in a later interview. “Cars coming at full freeway speed.”

California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Flores eventually showed up and tried to get her attention by banging on the window with his flashlight and yelling “wake up!” but he didn’t have much luck either.

Within moments, Morgan’s car began to roll as her foot came off the brake, which prompted Flores to run around to the passenger side and smash the window open.

“Stop your car, you’re going to crash!” he yelled at the woman, who still was oblivious to what was going on, even though her window had just been busted wide open.

Officer Flores was eventually able to throw the car in park before removing Morgan from the vehicle and walking her to a safe location alongside the freeway. She was then handcuffed and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A large bottle of alcohol and other drinks were found on the floor of Morgan’s car, and she was booked into jail with a $2,500 bail.

Morgan, who is reportedly a student at San Diego State University and an aspiring journalist, posted bail at the Las Colinas Women’s Detention facility and was released Friday.

Woman Shot Up McDonald’s Drive-Thru Because Her Bacon Cheeseburger Was Missing The Bacon

A Michigan woman was so mad at a McDonald’s employee for failing to put bacon on her bacon cheeseburger (for the SECOND time in a row) that she pulled out a gun and shot through the fast food restaurant’s drive-thru window.

Now, she could be facing up to seven years in prison after being convicted of felony use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied building.

30-year-old Shaneka Monique Torres reportedly ordered a bacon cheeseburger at a Grand Rapids McDonald’s during the early morning hours of February 10th 2014, but when she received the burger it was missing a key ingredient: THE MOTHER F**KING BACON.

After speaking with a manager, Torres was offered a free bacon cheeseburger on her next visit, and after clubbing with a friend later that night, she took Mickey D’s up on their free burger offer.

From The Daily Mail:

Sitting in the passenger seat, she headed to the drive-thru at 2am — stopping to chat up a manager at one of the windows before giving him her number, which later helped police track her down. But when she and her friend received their order, she again had no bacon on her burger.

Torres pulled out a handgun and fired once, sending the bullet through the window and out the other side of the restaurant, police said. Her attorney, John Beason, had previously said in court that the gun, which had no safety, went off accidentally.

Torres’ friend, Nydia Ray, who was driving the car, told the court her friend had not been upset by the lack of bacon on her burger. She said she saw the gun after handing the order back and was in the middle of saying ‘What the f*** is going on?’ when it fired.

The server, Essence Lake, had walked away from the window when she heard the shot and saw the hole in the glass, she said, adding the bullet would have struck her if she had still been by the window. “We went back and forth screaming and yelling and then we pulled off,” Ray said.

Torres was arrested at her home about 30 minutes later.

Apparently not buying her story that the shooting was an accident, a jury found Torres guilty of the aforementioned charges after deliberating for just an hour last Wednesday (Mar 25). She’s currently out on a $50,000 bond and is due in court again on April 21st for sentencing.

WTF of the Day: Wendy’s Worker Used Gatorade Instead of Pee in Meeting With Probation Officer

Meet Wendy’s worker Tabatha Coulombe, who was arrested last week after she tried to use “a mixture of Gatorade and warm water” as her urine sample during a meeting with her probation officer back in January.

The 29-year-old Florida woman had been put on probation for a 2013 sentencing for felony animal cruelty. Three weeks prior to her meeting with her P.O. — in which she foolishly used gatorade in place of pee — Coulombe failed a urine test after amphetamines were found in her system.

In late-January, Coulombe met with her probation officer and provided a urine specimen. But due to “the abnormal color (blush)” and the “abnormal test result,” the officer questioned Coulombe about the sample’s source.

“Coulombe admitted that she did defraud the test and…removed a plastic pill bottle that was concealed in her vagina,” according to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office report. Coulombe’s probation officer subsequently “discovered that the submitted solution was a combination of Gatorade and hot water.”

Coulombe’s arraignment on the probation violation charge is scheduled for April 12th.

She obviously used the lemon-lime flavored gatorade considering it’s the closet color to pee. But regardless, what a dumbass … who in the F*CK told her this would work?

One of the biggest highlights from Sunday night’s iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles came when Madonna and Taylor Swift teamed up for an unforgettable performance of Madge’s new single “Ghosttown.”

Taylor Swift rocked out on acoustic guitar as Madonna sang the vocals and the pair — both dressed in thigh-high stockings — collectively brought the house down.

This is how Vanity Fair described the performance:

The duo took to the stage on Sunday night at the iHeartRadio Awards to perform Madonna’s song “Ghost Town” with her Madgesty on vocals and Swift strumming the life out of her acoustic guitar. This isn’t the first time Madonna has enticed a younger pop star on stage with her. Christina, Britney, Miley, etc., we’ve seen it all before.

And, yes, like other young pop stars before her, Taylor went a little edgier with her style in order to keep up with Madonna, mirroring the pop queen’s lace-top stockings and garter look. But since this is sweet pop princess Swift we’re talking about, there was no repeat of the famous 2003 incident with Brit, Madonna, and Christina. The pair opted instead for a more chaste peck on the cheek.

Karrueche Tran Gets Emotional While Opening Up About Chris Brown in Revealing “Iyanla: Fix My Life” Interview

Just weeks after Karrueche Tran found out that her boyfriend Chris Brown fathered a 9-month-old baby girl with another woman, the aspiring model/actress sat down with Iyanla Vanzant for a super revealing “Iyanla: Fix My Life” interview that aired on OWN, in which she opened up about her on-and-off relationship with the singer.

During the one-on-one, Karrueche described how she met Chris about five years ago when she was a stylist’s assistant and what made her fall in love.

“When I first met him, he was nice and charming and I wanted to love him,” Tran told Vanzant. “To be a friend, to be different than all these other girls who would sleep with him in a second or girls who are gonna go crazy, or people who are just gonna use him. I didn’t want it to be that, I wanted it to be different, and that’s how it was.”

For Karrueche, being “different” included making Chris wait before they had sex. “I made him wait a month-and-a-half to two months. That’s not what he’s used to,” she said.

The 26-year-old said she knew Brown was still hanging out with Rihanna, but she was OK with it because she initially thought it was just an innocent “friendship.” She admitted that she knew the type of man she was dealing with, she just didn’t want to believe it.

“I didn’t want to believe it,” she said. “Because I loved him. I’ve never dated a celebrity, I’ve never been in the light that way, so I didn’t know what to expect.”

Tran also revealed that she and Chris had talked about having kids one day, but she said she wasn’t ready for that until he put a ring on it. She told Iyanla she found out about his daughter the same way everyone else did, on the Internet.

“How did you find out he had a baby by another woman, that he’s not married to?” Iyanla asked.

“Honestly, through social media,” Karrueeche admitted. “He wanted to talk in person. Actually, at the moment that I found out, he was texting me saying, ‘I need to talk to you in person.’ Then I got online and I saw that.”

Immediately after catching wind of the news, Tran went on social media to publicly call end her relationship with Brown. “Listen. One can only take so much. The best of luck to Chris and his family. No baby drama for me,” she wrote in a now deleted Twitter post.

Even though they aren’t together anymore, Karrueche said she’s spoken with Chris since their break-up, and he’s been very apologetic. “He said he’s sorry, he’s dropped flowers off and tried to, you know, say sorry and be back in good graces,” she said. “He’s sorry for what he put me through.”

And despite everything she’s been put through, Karrueche said she still loves Chris. “I still love him,” she explained. “I’ve tried to help him. Go to church, pray, yoga, meditate. If he were to change, we’d be in a better place. But that’s the problem. Yes, he is damaged but I’m damaged too.”

A visibly emotional Karrueche Tran made it clear that she has no plans to take Chris Brown back anytime soon though. “Now? It ain’t no making up right now,” she insisted. “There’s no making up. I’m trying to be my strongest and I understand what he’s put me through and I’m fed up with it.”

Rihanna’s Animated Movie “Home” Opens at No. 1 with $54 Million

Last week was pretty big for Rihanna. In addition to debuting her new single “Bitch Better Have My Money,” RiRi was also able to celebrate the release of her new animated film “Home,” which opened at the box office at No. 1 and raked in $54 million.

The film’s opening weekend exceeded expectation by far (it grossed over $100 million worldwide) and clearly beat out Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart’s comedy “Get Hard,” which opened at No. 2 with $34.6 million.

“Home” is the first 3D animated film starring an African-American girl protagonist, voiced by Rihanna, who plays a teenage girl left alone after an alien invasion on earth.

Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin also star in the movie, which marks the best opening for a DreamWorks Animation film since “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” ($60.3 million) in summer 2012, and the third-best showing ever for a DreamWorks title.

Kim, Kanye and North West Totally Photobombed This Rich Lady and Her Baby

How many multi-millionaires can you fit in one photograph? In this case, at least five.

In a photo shared on Instagram last week, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and their daughter North are caught accidentally photobombing a woman and her baby.

You don’t even have to really look that hard to see the famous family right behind the lady — who, according to the Daily Mail, is a British heiress named Alice Bramford whose family is worth over $4 billion and owns JCB farm equipment and Daylesford Organics.

The image was taken outside Nobu, a popular A-list Japanese restaurant in Hollywood, and it’s obvious that Kim and Kanye have no idea that a picture is being taken in front of them.

That, plus Bramford’s apparent lack of awareness (or lack of care) that Kimye and Baby North are literally right behind her is what has everyone on the Internet rolling with laughter.

Whether or not Alice realized the Wests were in the background of her photo before she posted it on social media is anyone’s guess (maybe that’s what the #greatcompany hashtag was for?) but the folks in the comments certainly noticed.
