Lisa Benson Cooper: Fast Facts About Black Reporter Fired for Sharing Article About White Women Using Their Tears As Weapons

Lisa Benson Cooper—a black, award-winning broadcast journalist in Kansas City, Missouri—was fired after 14 years with the same company after she shared an article to her personal Facebook page that offended her white co-workers.

The article, titled “How White Women Use Strategic Tears to Silence Women of Color,” is about how black women are often mistreated in the workplace, but are afraid to speak up because white women too often accuse them of being combative.

When Lisa shared the article to her personal Facebook page, two of her white co-workers thought it was problematic and took action, which eventually led to her getting fired.

Here’s what you need to know:

1Lisa Benson Cooper was fired after she shared a “controversial article” on her personal Facebook page about white women using their tears as weapons.

Lisa Benson Cooper shared an article from May 2018 written by Ruby Hamad titled “How White Women Use Strategic Tears to Silence Women of Color.”

Ironically, Cooper sharing the article prompted a flood of white tears that carried two women to HR resulting in her getting fired from her job after more than a decade of working there.

When Ruby found out that Lisa’s sharing of her article caused her to lose her job for allegedly making “unfair characterizations about white women,” she decided to use her platform to help bring Lisa justice and bring awareness to the issue at hand.

“Just to cap off a great weekend, I have just been informed a WoC got fired for sharing my white tears article,” Hamad tweeted on Sunday, August 19th. “So there you go.”

The next day, Hamad tweeted:

“I’ve been feeling sick about it all day. I’m not sure yet the best way to respond but I will out the employer and try to crowdfund her legal costs as soon as she gives me the okay … Let me recap: two white women got a black woman fired from her journalism job she had for 14 years because she shared my article about how white women claim victimhood to silence women of colour. They won’t get away with it … I’m crap at fighting for myself but I can still fight for others.”

2Lisa filed a lawsuit against KSHB-TV in December 2016 for racial discrimination.

Lisa Benson Cooper has worked as a broadcast journalist at KSHB-TV in Kanas City, Missouri for nearly 14 years.

She filed a lawsuit against the news station’s parent company in December 2016, alleging that she’d been discriminated against multiple times because of her race. In her lawsuit, Benson stated that her race was “constantly used” as a deciding factor as to what she would cover as a reporter.

Her lawsuit claimed that she was “consistently” being sent to urban areas for all of her stories. She even recalled being forced to cover a story that required her to go to the home of a Ku Klux Klan member for an interview.

According to the Kansas City Star, a trial was scheduled for August 13th. Benson’s suit seeks an unspecified amount in actual and punitive damages.

3Ms. Benson Cooper was suspended without pay in 2015 for “combative behavior.”

Lisa Benson Cooper being fired from her job at KSHB-TV in Kanas City, Missouri (where she had worked for nearly 14 years) was not the first time she’s been punished by her superiors for seemingly no reason at all.

Since being hired in 2004, Lisa actively pursued promotions within the news station, but claimed they were “consistently rewarded to white employees with far less experience.”

In 2015, after voicing concerns about the way she was being treated and asking her supervisor why she hadn’t seen the promotions that others had, she was told her behavior was “combative” and her co-workers accused her of fighting with her supervisor. She was subsequently suspended without pay for two days.

Another black reporter by the name of Demetrice “Dee” Jackson, who also works for KSHB-TV filed a racial discrimination lawsuit as well, claiming that he was twice passed over for the position of sports director after management led him to believe he would get the position.

“We stand by our commitment to diversity and inclusion in our workplace,” said KSHB news director Carrie Hofmann.

4Lisa is an Emmy Award-winning journalist with over 20 years worth of experience.

Lisa Benson Cooper won an Emmy Award for her journalism and lists her reporting on Barack Obama’s inauguration among her most treasured work.

When she announced her departure from KSHB this past June, she wrote on her Facebook page: “From covering the inauguration of President Barack Obama to becoming an Emmy award-winning journalist, I will forever cherish my work here in Kansas City!”

She continued: “I’m not sure what’s next for me careerwise, but I’m excited about spending more time with my family, especially my two little boys! Thanks again for your support and let’s keep in touch as I navigate my next chapter!”

5Lisa’s lawyer is working to prove that she was unfairly dismissed, her sharing the article wasn’t discriminatory, and the conversation the article presents is a point of discussion in many other mainstream and academic platforms.

Lisa Benson Cooper’s lawyer is working hard to prove to the court that Lisa was not being discriminatory or offensive when she shared Ruby Hamad’s article, and the points within the article are being discussed all over the world on many platforms.

Lisa’s lawyer also hopes that the court understands that Lisa was unfairly dismissed from her job.

Hamad has called on her readers and social media followers to support Lisa and help bring her to justice by spreading the word of Lisa’s mistreatment while at KSHB.

Hamad is also encouraging her supporters to stand up against any discrimination they might face at work or anywhere else.

On August 22nd, Benson wrote on Facebook: “I hate that sharing The Guardian article cost me my career at 41 Action News – KSHB-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, a city that I love. But I think Ruby Hamad’s article provides an interesting basis for discussion and dialogue.
We should all be willing to talk to one another, right? Thanks for the support guys! I truly appreciate it.”

Woman Accuses 40-Year-Old Boyfriend of Sleeping With Her Teenage Daughter

What would you do if you found out your 40-year-old boyfriend and your teenage daughter were (allegedly) going behind your back and having sex with each other? One woman from Selma, Alabama says she found herself in that position recently, and let the whole world know via Facebook.

In late July, Tresa Murphy took to Facebook to expose her boyfriend “Boomane” for allegedly sleeping around with her now 18-year-old daughter Brionna.

According to Murphy, Brionna and Boomane had been having sex since she was 17 years old, and she had her suspicions, but didn’t want to publicly speak on it until she knew it was 100% true. Once she found out, she decided to “put them on blast” via Facebook, and she said no longer has a relationship with her neither the man nor her daughter.

“Thank God for putting me in the right place at the right time. I said when I found out about the situation with Boomane (the guy I was seeing) and my daughter I would confirm it on FB,” Murphy wrote. “Well I just ran into some people that have been seeing them together all along. They didn’t know she was my daughter until after the post. So YES FB it was true!”

She continued, “His 40-year-old a**, soon to be 41, was dating me and sleeping with my daughter when she was 17. SMH, but I’m over it. Just wanted to put them on blast and as far as I’m concerned, they can have each other. I just thank God for removing both of them out my life!”

WHEW, CHILE … THE GHETTO!!!

When Brionna found out her mom had put her “on blast,” she responded with her own Facebook status, saying that what her mother said was all lies:

“I really said I [wasn’t gonna] post no status, cause I AIN’T GOTTA POINT TO PROVE TO NO MFN BODY! Don’t none of y’all miserable messy mfs know wtf going on so all y’all can stfu and die y’all b**ches/n****s just want some to talk about. Y’all live for sh** like this cause y’all mfs ain’t got sh** going for y’all self, but brionna gone live her best life still. DON’T NOBODY KNOW WTF I GO THROUGH, and them lies y’all can kill and die with.”

“Only reason I’m so pissed is because this sh** coming from MY OWN F***ING MAMA. I could never see myself putting my child through the sh** she put me through. But God ain’t sleep, and neither am I. I’m off this sh**.”

Brionna reiterated her statement in a Facebook Live video and apologized to the man for her mother’s actions.

“That man could’ve really went to jail for some sh** like that,” she said. “That sh** ain’t no sh** that you can go around and blame somebody on. That sh** ain’t nothing to play with, but I just leave that sh** in God’s hands ’cause how I feel about the situation, I’ll beat a hoe up.”

After Brionna went off on her, Tresa fired back with another post:

“I could care less what anyone has to say about my post yesterday. Irrelevant people who don’t know jack about me running they di*k suckers like they know me personally. But FYI…I was a damn good mother and if you knew me ‘personally’ you would know that. Some may not agree with how I handled the situation (not like I GAF) but I don’t regret it and it would still be up if my sister didn’t talk to me. Regardless of how good of a mother you are it takes two to raise a child. So until you know my entire situation… just like you… your opinion about me will always remain IRRELEVANT! I’m not explaining sh**! I’m just clearing that up.”

According to Alabama’s age of consent laws, individuals aged at least 16 years old are legally old enough to consent to participate in sexual activity.

So while it isn’t against the law for a 17 or 18-year-old to have sex with a 40-year-old old, it is still considered to be morally wrong, especially when that teenager is the child of your significant other.

As for the accusations, it sounds like the mother is a real messy bitch who lives for drama … because even if this were true, why would you take something like that to Facebook, of all places?

Lisa Fleming From “My 600-lb Life” Dead at 50, Cause of Death Not Related to Weight

Arleasher “Lisa” Fleming, a woman who once weighed over 700 pounds and was featured on TLC’s “My 600-lb Life,” has died at 50 years old.

Deadline reports Fleming died at her home in Texas Thursday (Aug. 24) of unknown causes. Fleming’s daughter, Danielle, announced the sad news on Facebook Thursday evening, noting that she’d held her mother’s hand for four hours that morning “knowing nothing I could’ve done would bring you back to me.”

When Lisa Fleming started out on the show, she weighed more than 700 pounds, but Danielle said her mom’s cause of death was not related to her weight. Danielle told TMZ that her mother had been sick, but didn’t specify the illness. She said Lisa had lost more than 200 pounds since her appearance on “My 600-lb Life,” and was actually able to stand on her own.

Danielle told TMZ that her mom was sick before the show, and the various illnesses had just eventually taken their toll. “At the end she was sick and her body was tired and her body just gave out,” Danielle said.

Lisa was featured on the show’s sixth season back in February. She said on the show that her struggles with weight began when she was a child, and it got worse after her parents divorced and after her brother was murdered. She also said her weight problems got worse after she got pregnant four times back-to-back.

While on the show, Lisa was bedridden and unable to care for herself. She was in such bad shape while filming her episode that seven paramedics were needed to remove her from her bed to take her to the hospital. After she complained about having a pain in her leg, her daughter checked and saw that she had maggots in the fold of her skin.

While hospitalized, Lisa lost almost 90 pounds, but had trouble maintaining her diet after leaving, gaining nearly 30 pounds after she was sent home, Radar Online reported. According to Radar, she was kicked out of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan’s weight loss program and never underwent the weight loss surgery.

Lisa is the third person from “My 600-lb Life” to die within the past 12 months. Last November, 41-year-old Robert Buchel (who weighed 842 pounds) died of a heart attack before his episode aired on television, and earlier this month, 30-year-old James “L.B.” Bonner—an amputee who underwent gastric bypass surgery on the show—was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Robin Leach, Host of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” Dead at 76

Robin Leach, famed TV host and celebrity columnist, has died at the age of 76.

The journalist, who rose to fame in the 1980’s as host of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” died Thursday night (Aug. 23) at a hospital in Cabo San Lucas, according to a statement by his family. His cause of death was a stroke.

“Despite the past 10 months, what a beautiful life he had. Our Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and friend Robin Leach passed away peacefully last night at 1:50 a.m. Everyone’s support and love over the past, almost one year, has been incredible and we are so grateful. Memorial arrangements to follow,” Leach’s son Steven said in a statement, which was also attributed to his other sons Gregg and Rick.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Leach had been hospitalized since November 2017 after suffering a stroke while he was vacationing in Cabo San Lucas. He suffered a second stroke this past Monday (Aug. 20), which he, unfortunately, did not recover from. He was placed in hospice care soon after.

After suffering a mini-stroke last year, he spent several weeks recovering in a hospital in Las Vegas. Leach’s son arranged for a private plane to take his father to Saint Rose Dominican Hospital when he realized his dad couldn’t eat or walk, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

“I started rehabilitation on my right side,” Leach told Daily Mail. “I need my right hand to type!”

Robin Leach was born in London during World War II. He started working as a journalist when he was still a teenager, including a stint at the Daily Mail. He moved to the United States in 1963 and would go on to write for the New York Daily News, Ladies’ Home Journal and People magazine, where he wrote their first 11 cover stories.

Leach transitioned from written journalism to television journalism at the start of the 1980’s, with appearances on CNN’s “People Tonight” and helping launch the syndicated program “Entertainment Tonight.”

He teamed up with producer Al Masini on the show he’d become best known for, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” which went to become a wildly popular syndicated series that ran from 1984 to 1995. The show took viewers inside the lavish homes and vacation spots of well-known international celebrities, and is credited for helping to pave the way for what would go on to become reality TV. He would sign off each episode with his signature catchphrase: “Champagne wishes and caviar dreams.”

Leach moved to Las Vegas int he 1990’s where he worked as an entertainment columnist at the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas-Review Journal, the latter of which was the first to report his death. He spent the next two decades there chronicling the city’s celebrity and dining scenes. He went on to host VH1’s “The Surreal Life: Fame Game” in 2007.

Leach’s 77th birthday would have been next Wednesday, August 29th.

Bow Wow Says His Son Died Earlier This Year: “I Lost My Son, I’m in So Much Pain Bro!”

Summer 2018 hasn’t been very kind to Bow Wow, and unfortunately for him, it seems like things haven’t gotten much better.

Not even a month ago, he went on a highly publicized Twitter rant, in which he went off on his critics, threatened to quit rap to work at GameStop and gave away money to random fans on Cash App.

And now, he’s venting to his Twitter followers again about being crucified by the media, suffering heartbreak from his former relationships, and his father’s alcoholism, which has resulted in an undisclosed illness.

The rapper also revealed that he “lost” a son earlier this year, and even though he doesn’t go into much detail about this loss, we can only assume that his girlfriend Kiyomi Leslie was pregnant with a boy and she had a miscarriage.

“I’m over everything,” he shared on Twitter. “Mentally I feel detached I’m in so much pain bro…”

Next, he vented on Instagram, revealing that he had been drinking and pushing away any critics who plan on judging him for sharing his feelings on social media.

“I’m off henny ANYBODY CAN GET IT TONIGHT! F*** EVERYBODY IF THEY ON THE F*** SH**! F*** YOU! Y’all don’t know what I go thru. Y’all have no clue!” he wrote. “These women, this life… I feel like mafukkas after me. LORD WHY CANT I JUST HAVE SUM PEACE SUMBODY HELP ME. I’ve already lost my mind but got damn!”

He continued: “I don’t know why folks play [with] me like I’m not crazy! I just hold back but if I start using this social media sh** and talking how I feel lno one will ever get a headline because they will be [talking] about the stuff that came out my mouth!”

It’s obvious Bow Wow needs some help, and hopefully, those around him can get him to on the path to getting that much needed help.

Annie Are You OK? Taraji P. Henson Compares Herself to Michael Jackson in Hilarious Makeup Selfie

When Taraji P. Henson shared a post-makeup selfie on Instagram on Wednesday (Aug. 22), fans (like me) immediately noticed something was “different.” She looked like Michael Jackson!

I’m not sure if it was the hair, the makeup, the lighting, her eyes, or a combination of all four, but she looks VERY King of Pop-ish in this photo.

Fortunately, Taraji thought the same thing, hence her hilarious caption:

“Uuuuuuummmmmm kinda Trippy NO? Hair and make up is something huh? I think it’s the lighting. If not I was supposed to be the 6th of the 5.”

It’s good to see Taraji can laugh at herself. She even took some time to laugh at some of the comments on her post:

Of course, 50 Cent, the internet’s most notorious troll, also chimed in:

And comedian DC Young Fly roasted her as well, telling her to “bring [her] Michael Jackson looking a** here girl”:

Meanwhile, Taraji’s makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff, was NOT here for the jokes and slander against her work, and she let that be known via her own Instagram post:

“Today I got roasted by social media @theshaderoom @dcyoungfly and fans let me have it and even told @tarajiphenson to fire me… well same hair and makeup same day in these two pictures but let me explain to the novice #makeupartist out here in the social media world. Lighting makes a major difference in how your makeup appears.

“Taraji has a yellow undertone and in her trailer the lights are fluorescent. Where as in the #makeuptrailer the lights are natural light bulbs. Anyone who is a pro knows that fluorescent lighting will turn your skintone green and make you appear ashy.

“I’ve done Tarajis makeup for many many years in fact many celebrities and I was reluctant to address this but I decided it was necessary to teach you novice makeup artist and people who don’t know lighting whatsoever that it does affect how your makeup looks. Furthermore makeup for TV, red carpet, editorial, film etc are all different mediums and makeup reads differently depending on the format used, cameras, lighting, background, hair color, clothing etc.

“I’ve been doing this over 20 years so imma say this don’t come for my job or my talent cause the work speaks for itself. I’m so damn tired of people throwing stones and don’t even understand the technicalities involved when it comes to #makeup #hair or #fashion and be so quick to judge people’s work without knowing all the technicalities involved.

“We all have bad days but just so you trolls know this wasn’t one of them. Judge my work when you stand next to her in public and if she look ashy or green then come get at ya girl… f#&? Outta here… but @dcyoungfly you were funny we did laugh and thanks for treating the queen with #respect #tarajiphenson #KnowYourSh$$1st #clownasspeople #socialmediaamesssometimes #doyouhaveacareerNadontthinkso #20plusyearsinthegame #googlemebitches #blessed”

Sky From “Black Ink Crew” Shares Photos With Both of Her Sons on Instagram

On last season’s “Black Ink Crew,” we all watched as Sky attempted to reconnect with her two sons Des and Genesis after giving them up for adoption years ago when they were little boys.

While her relationship with her youngest son, Des, has grown a lot since then, we all saw what happened when she tried to make things right with her oldest son, Genesis, on multiple occasions. It was bad, real bad, Michael Jackson.

When things didn’t work out, and after lots of tears and hurtful words, Sky decided to let Genesis heal on his own before trying to be a part of his life, which obviously was a hard decision for her.

But it looks like everything is all good with them now because Sky posted a series of photos on Instagram of her with her two boys in the “Black Ink” shop in New York City. “Complete… #UsNevaThem,” the proud mama captioned the photos, along with a heart emoji.

Des also shared a couple of photos of him with his mother and brother, as did Genesis.

I’m so happy for Sky and her sons, especially Sky and her “twin” Genesis. I had a feeling they would mend their broken relationship off camera, which was probably for the best.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see more from their family reunion when Black Ink Crew premieres next month on September 19th!

Beyoncé & JAY-Z Honored With Key to City of Columbia, SC Ahead of “OTR II” Concert

Beyoncé and JAY-Z pictured at their "On The Run II" concert in Columbia, SC at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Moments before Beyoncé and JAY-Z hit the stage at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina Tuesday night (Aug. 21) for their “On The Run II Tour” concert, the couple was presented with a gift from the city’s mayor.

Recognizing the couple for their humanitarian and cultural contributions, Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin honored Hip-Hop’s royal couple with a key to the city.

The mayor (pictured above with JAY-Z), who got to spend some one-on-one time with the couple before the big show, said he also proclaimed the day “Beyoncé Knowles Carter and Shawn Carter Day” across Columbia, according to a post on his Twitter account.

“Late night but what an incredible show at #OTRII in @ColumbiaSC !” he wrote in the post. “It was wonderful to have a chance to recognize the humanitarian & cultural contributions of Mr. & Mrs. Carter. August 21st was officially ‘Beyonce Knowles Carter & Shawn Carter Day” in @ColumbiaSC @Beyonce @S_C_”

The sold-out concert drew about 40,000+ fans to the stadium where the University of South Carolina’s Gamecocks plays football games.

Gossip On This attended the show, and it was a sight to see. Backed by a gigantic, stage-length video screen, the pair, collectively known as “The Carters,” ran through a 40-song setlist that included solo hits from both of their extensive music catalogs, as well as their multiple duets.

According to stadium officials, Tuesday night’s concert was only the third at Williams-Brice in the last 20 years, and the first since Kenny Chesney back in 2008, which was 10 years ago. Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s concert was also a historic moment because it was the first time an R&B and Rap act played at the venue.

XXXTentacion’s Mother Reveals His Unborn Child Is a Boy

XXXTentacion’s mother has revealed the gender of the rapper’s unborn child, and “It’s a boy!”

XXX’s mother, Cleopatra Bernard, has been keeping his fans in the loop when it comes to anything related to him, and shortly after his death, she revealed that X “left us a final gift” by posting a sonogram of his unborn child on Instagram just a few days after his shooting death.

Today, Bernard took to Instagram to provide X’s fans with yet another update: The rapper’s girlfriend is pregnant with their son.

https://instagram.com/p/BmyZo7SBRqB/

“It’s a boy; baby x,” she wrote in the caption of a photo showing the mother’s stomach. Bernard still has yet to reveal exactly who the child’s mother is, likely for privacy reasons.

X was shot and killed June 18th outside a Deerfield Beach-area motorcycle shop. Four men—Dedrick Williams, Robert Allen, Michael Boatwright and Dedrick Williams—have since been arrested and indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges, including first-degree murder.

All four of X’s alleged killers have since entered non-guilty pleas, and one of them is reportedly begging the judge to release him on bail so that he can be with his pregnant fiancée.

At the time of his death, XXXTentacion was awaiting trial on a number of charges including witness tampering and the alleged abuse of a pregnant woman. However, due to his death, the charges have since been formally dropped.

Man Shot During Argument Over Who Should Play Aretha Franklin in Her Biopic

Police say an argument over who should star as Aretha Franklin in a movie about her life led to a shooting at a barbershop in Suffolk, Virginia.

According to WTRK-TV, last Thursday (Aug. 16), two men—44-year-old Michael Hatton and 47-year-old Tony Lundy, had a disagreement about whether or not Halle Berry played or would play Aretha Franklin in her upcoming biopic.

The fight turned physical, and once the two men were outside, Hatton pulled out a gun and shot Lundy at least once, police said.

Witnesses inside a business near the barbershop recalled hearing someone shouting “No, no, no!” before hearing about 4-5 gunshots. Both men were reportedly taken to local hospitals, with Lundy in critical condition.

Police said after Hatton was released from the hospital, he was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where he was held without bond. Lundy had surgery that night and was said to be “recovering and resting in the ICU” as of Friday (Aug. 17).

According to Hatton’s arrest report, he was charged with discharging a firearm in a public place resulting in injury, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, assault during the commission of a felony, and malicious wounding with victim permanently impaired.

Aretha Franklin died on Thursday, August 16th following a private battle with pancreatic cancer.

Halle Berry was the “Respect” singer’s first personal choice to play her in her biopic, but Berry reportedly turned down the role because she didn’t think she was the right fit for the role due to her lacking the ability to sing.

“I can’t sing!” Berry said in 2011. “If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice.”

The role eventually went to Jennifer Hudson, but the Queen of Soul made it clear that she wanted Berry to play her.

“[Halle Berry] was my first choice. Everything’s subject to negotiation, and she shouldn’t underestimate her own talent,” Franklin said. “There are a number of other leading ladies out there that can definitely handle the role. I never expected Halle to sing. She’s an actress, not a singer. Many actors have portrayed vocalists by lip-synching to the artists’ original recordings.”

XXXTentacion’s Alleged Killer Reportedly Begging Judge to Let Him Out of Jail

One of the men allegedly involved in the murder of XXXTentacion wants to be allowed to post bail so that he can take care of his pregnant fiancée.

All four of the suspects in XXXTentacion’s murder case have been apprehended by police, and although all four men have pleaded not guilty to the crimes they’ve been charged with, they’re still being held in custody without bail. One of the suspects is reportedly begging the judge to allow him to post bail and be released from jail until the trial begins.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Robert Allen wants the judge to let him post bail because he claims that there is no proof he committed a crime. The reason he wants to be released from jail, according to TMZ, is because his fiancée is currently pregnant with their child and he wants to be able to take care of her.

Allen reportedly told the judge that if he’s let out of jail, he promises to go back to work for a lawn care business in Broward County, Florida where he has lived with his mother his whole life.

Allen was the third of four murder suspects arrested in July after U.S. Marshals tracked him down at his sister’s house in Eastman, Georgia. He was originally wanted by police as a person of interest after he was spotted on surveillance footage outside of the motorcycle dealership with XXX was shortly before he was gunned down.

It’s interesting that this Robert Allen guy wants to be released from jail so that he can take care of his pregnant fiancée, considering XXX’s girlfriend was about four months pregnant when he was killed.

Lamar Odom Recalls Having 12 Strokes & 6 Heart Attacks While in Coma After 2015 Drug Overdose

Lamar Odom says it was a “miracle” he survived his infamous 2015 drug overdose. Why? Because he nearly died after he had 12 strokes and six heart attacks while he was in a coma that lasted nearly a week.

Odom was a guest on Kevin Hart’s popular YouTube series “Cold as Bells,” where he shared intimate details about his near-fatal drug overdose, which left him in a four-day coma.

“It’s a good day to be alive considering the alternative. All my doctors that see me say I’m a walking miracle,” he told Hart in the 11-minute clip. “I had 12 strokes and six heart attacks when I was in a coma.“

Odom was reportedly found unconscious at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch in Crystal, Nevada (outside Las Vegas)—which was recently shut down permanently after the owners failed to renew their license and fix health and safety violations at the property.

According to reports around the time of Odom’s highly publicized incident at the brothel, blood tests showed the former Los Angeles Lakers star had cocaine in his system when he overdosed. During his conversation with Hart, he went on to recall how his history of battling anxiety issues and reports from TMZ contributed to his mental breakdown.

“Anxiety has always been real bad for me. And it’s crazy because I made a living playing in front of 20,000 people, he said before later adding, “They [TMZ] f**cked up my head, bro. Made it tough to go outside. Everyday waking up, watching TMZ to see if you’re gonna be on there for the wrong reasons. It’s not a comfortable feeling America.”

Now that he is fully recovered and over his addiction to drugs, the 38-year-old hopes his forthcoming 2019 autobiography will help others who are dealing with addiction. “I think my book will let anybody know that they can overcome anything,” he said. “Anybody dealing with addiction or any type of problems that they’re going through.”

Later in their discussion, Hart commended Odom for his bravery to overcome his drug addiction. “I had no idea that it was that extreme. I had no idea that it was that bad,” the comedian said. “I love the fact that you’re talking about the bad and that you overcame the bad, and you’re standing here now saying that ‘I’m a walking miracle,’ but saying I’m so blessed to be living and now is the road to greatness.”

Are Beyoncé and JAY-Z (aka The Carters) Performing at the 2018 MTV VMAs Tonight?

Tonight is the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, and there are a number of performers who have already been confirmed to take the stage. But a certain due has neither confirmed nor denied whether they will be in attendance and whether or not they’ll take the stage, and their names are Beyoncé and JAY-Z.

Although the couple, known collectively as “The Carters” are nominated in eight categories, they have yet to make an announcement about appearing at this year’s VMAs. While they are currently on tour, there is still a slight possibility that they could perform tonight.

The Carters, who are approaching the end of their “On The Run II Tour,” appear to have a few off days that would be perfect for rehearsing for a quick VMAs performance. They just wrapped a show in Buffalo, New York on Saturday (Aug. 18) and their next show isn’t until Tuesday night (Aug. 21) in Columbia, South Carolina.

With the VMAs set to air live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Monday night (Aug. 20), it’s possible that they could take the stage tonight, but as some fans are pointing out on social media, their performance would have to be just the two of them because Beyoncé’s dancers are already in Columbia.

This could all be wishful thinking from hopeful BeyHivers, however, Beyoncé has become known for her surprises. Plus, she typically performs at the VMAs anytime she has an album to promote, and she and JAY-Z just released their first joint album Everything Is Love in June, so the VMAs would be the perfect place for them to make a debut TV performance of one of the songs from the project.

So to answer your question about whether or not Beyoncé and JAY-Z will be performing tonight at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, we’ll just have to wait and see.

As for names of performers who have already been announced and confirmed, those include Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, Panic! At The Disco, Rita Ora, Logic and Aerosmith, as well as Video Vanguard recipient Jennifer Lopez.

Fingers crossed The Carters decide to grace the VMAs stage with their presence too!

UPDATE: Beyoncé’s publicist just posted photos of herself on the red carpet! It’s looking like the possibility of The Carters performing just went up exponentially.

WATCH: White Man Yells “You’re” Treating Me Like a Black Person!” During Arrest

A Florida man was captured on cell phone video last week showing his whole entire A-S-S before being taken into police custody inside a busy airport.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that 59-year-old Jeffrey Epstein—who is a licensed medical doctor in Lakeland, FL—was confronted by police at Orlando International Airport early Thursday (Aug. 16), and when he refused to cooperate, he was thrown to the ground and pepper sprayed.

While police attempted to restrain Epstein, who is white, he could be heard shouting: “You’re treating me like a f***ing black person!”

A bystander recorded the entire incident from the moment police arrived, which you can watch below:

Police responded to a call from OIA airline employees just before 6 a.m. about a disorderly traveler, who was allegedly yelling obscenities while standing in a ticket line.

When Epstein noticed the officers approaching him, he “threw his hands in the air” and yelled that “police had come to arrest him,” his arrest affidavit stated. Police said Epstein refused their orders to leave the airport, and he “continued to yell and say to arrest him.”

Epstein can be heard shouting “do not hurt me, you understand? Do not hurt me” several times in the video as police tried to restrain him. He was eventually taken to the ground and pepper sprayed after refusing to be handcuffed, police said in the affidavit.

After Epstein was taken into custody, he ended up in the hospital after complaining about chest pain. While en route to the hospital, Epstein said he “created a very big disturbance and I did it on purpose,” according to the affidavit. While searching him, police said they found a “baggie” of marijuana on his person.

Once Epstein arrived at the hospital, he refused to speak to a doctor, so he was then taken to the Orange County Jail, police said. He was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, trespassing after warning and possession of cannabis of less than 20 grams. He was briefly booked and released on $1,800 bail.

The video made its rounds on social media and was shared on Facebook and retweeted on Twitter thousands of times, with many users expressing outrage that he would shout about being “treated like a black person.” Many users pointed out that if he was really being treated “like a black person,” he would be dead right now.

“If he were really being treated like a black person his name would be followed by a hashtag today!” one Twitter user wrote. “I said the same thing… he wasn’t shot dead and left in the streets,” echoed another.

Another Twitter user wrote: “I won’t go as far as stating the obvious, but if this is [deemed] ‘treating me like a black person’ then please treat us like this. I think I speak for the majority of us when I say we’d prefer this method of treatment over death.”

“If he were black or brown he would’ve been sprayed [without] warning and I’m not talking about pepper spray either,” said another Twitterer, alluding to the man being “sprayed” with bullets.

Epstein spoke with local news station WESH 2 outside the Orange County Jail after he was released and said he created the disturbance on purpose to “prove a point” about police brutality.

“If you’re going to do this to a white doctor, who’s 59-years-old, for doing nothing, then why would black people trust you?” he said. “I’m a conservative Republican, I’m a Trump guy. But until the police fix this problem, I don’t blame black people for being upset when they get arrested.”

Epstein said he was also trying to teach airlines a lesson about customer service.

“I was no danger. I was being loud because I wanted everyone to see,” he said. “I wanted everything to be out in the open. Big companies have to take care of their customers, and when they call the cops in, they got to deescalate, not escalate.”

Fox News Apologizes for Using Patti Labelle Photo to Honor Aretha Franklin

Fox News was forced to issue an apology after the network mistakenly showed an image of Patti LaBelle during a segment that was supposed to honor the life of Aretha Franklin, who died Thursday (Aug. 16) at the age of 76.

The segment featured a composite image showing Franklin in the foreground and LaBelle in a faded, smaller image in the background.

This is a huge deal not only because it’s pretty racist for white people to confuse one famous black woman with another famous black woman, but also… Aretha wasn’t really that fond of Patti, so say the least.

Social media was quick to point out Fox News’ gaffe, which not only was posted on the internet but also aired on television:

https://twitter.com/YourMomResists/status/1030212414099390465

While social media immediately noticed the error, it took Fox News several hours to own up to their mistake.

“We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends,” Jessica Santostefano, Fox News’ vice president, media desk, said in a statement. “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”

But wayment. Aretha Franklin was NEVER in that photo, to begin with. So what’s the real issue here?!

DO BETTER, FAUX NEWS.

Kodak Black Released From Jail After Serving 7 Months (VIDEO)

Kodak Black is a free man after serving 7 months in Florida’s Broward County jail.

He was all smiles as he was seen greeting two men who met him at the jail right after he was sprung from prison. His first stop after leaving prison was going to his mother’s house to see his son, Local10.com reported.

The 21-year-old rapper, who legally changed his name to Bill K. Kapri earlier this year, was arrested in January on charges including grand theft of a firearm, possession of a weapon or ammo by a felon, possession of marijuana and neglecting a child.

Kodak’s arrest, which resulted in two probation violation charges, came after he filmed himself on Instagram Live while having marijuana near his son while on house arrest.

The child neglect and grand theft of firearm arm charges were later dropped, and Kodak pled “not guilty” to the marijuana possession and felony firearm possession charges.

Kodak was originally facing 12 years behind bars, but after those charges were dropped, he was scheduled to be released in October, and fortunately for him, the judge trimmed some time from his sentence even more last month.

“All I can say is, I work very hard to try and give all of my clients a second chance,” Kodak’s attorney Bradford Cohen told Pitchfork in July regarding the shortened sentence. “We were lucky that the matter concerning […] Kodak was resolved in a way we felt was extremely fair by the prosecutor handling the matter. He looks forward to getting out and creating new music and spreading his charity work.”

Kodak changed his legal name from Dieuson Octave to Bill K. Kapri back in May so that he could have a “fresh start,” his attorney Bradford Cohen said. While in jail, he took steps to better his life, including getting his GED and taking parenting classes.

Including his January arrest, Kodak Black has been arrested at least five times since 2015. He still has a pending sexual assault case in South Carolina.

Ohio State Coach Surprises Players With Tickets to Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s “On The Run II” Concert in Columbus

Ohio State’s football coach surprised players with free tickets to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s concert in Columbus Thursday night (Aug. 16).

Hip Hop’s royal couple brought their “On the Run II” to Ohio Stadium on the campus of Ohio State in Columbus, OH, and after Thursday’s practice, the Buckeyes’ acting head coach Ryan Day told his team that they would be attending the show later that night.

A video posted on the team’s social media pages shows the Buckeyes’ football team when they heard the good news. Day tells players that if their kicker makes a field goal, there will be “no meetings tonight.” When senior PK Sean Nuernberger makes the field goal, the team erupts in cheers. But not having meetings that night wasn’t the only gift the players would be receiving that night.

“You guys are going to the concert tonight!” Day told the team as they erupted into even bigger cheers. “JAY-Z and Beyoncé!” Freshman Dominic DiMaccio, also a placekicker for the Buckeyes, then did his best JAY-Z and basically nailed it, tbh.

“Ay HOV’s in the building,” DiMaccio said to his teammates as they laughed. “So tonight we gone have some fun baby. Y’all gone see my wife, ya’ll gone see me perform, ya’ll gone see me sing some throwback music. Y’all gone enjoy yourself. Aye, don’t ask my girl if she want cheddar, she want cheese.”

According to ESPN, Live Nation provided Ohio State with 500 free tickets to the concert. The football team’s tickets were purchased through the NCAA student opportunity fund, Ohio State’s associate vice president for university communications Chris Davey said.

With Beyoncé, JAY-Z and DJ Khaled literally performing on their turf, it’s only right the Buckeyes get free tickets to the show.

Davey said that those tickets were purchased at general public price and that student-athlete opportunities like these are paid for through a “special discretionary fund that comes from donors to university athletics and sometimes the NCAA student opportunity fund.”

State tax dollars and tuition dollars are not used, Davey said.

Ohio State’s women’s volleyball team will join the football team. Last year, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were sent to the Kendrick Lamar concert at the The Schottenstein Center.

NCAA Bylaw 16.7 allows an institution to provide reasonable entertainment to student-athletes while they are in their playing season.

“Since football’s playing season begins with preseason camp, we meet the requirements to provide such entertainment either through budget or using the NCAA Student Assistance Fund,” Davey said.

The team even got to hang out backstage with DJ Khaled, who shouted them out during his show-opening set.

Ryan Day was named acting head coach on August 1st after the school announced that head coach Urban Meyer was being placed on paid administrative leave for his alleged involvement in former Buckeyes coach Zach Smith’s 2015 domestic abuse incidents.

Smith’s ex-wife Courtney Smith said Meyer, along with his wife Shelley and many other people involved in the Ohio State football program knew about the incidents when they occurred and did not act on them. For his part, Meyer said he had no prior knowledge of the domestic abuse incidents, which were confirmed by several police reports obtained by Cleveland.com.

Ohio State president Michael Drake said the school’s investigation into the claims against Meyer would be completed this Sunday, with a decision on whether or not he will get to keep his job to follow shortly afterward.

Jeremih Got Kicked Off His Own Tour After Teyana Taylor Called Him Out for Being “Selfish,” “Jealous” and a “Diva”

Teyana Taylor says she’s sick and tired of being “extremely mistreated” by Jeremih, so she announced Wednesday (Aug. 16) that she had pulled out of their co-headlining “Later That Night Tour,” which only kicked off two weeks ago on August 3rd.

“I’ve been extremely mistreated on this tour so on that note I will NO longer continue to stay on the #LaterThatNightTour because if I do [I’m gonna] end up knocking this n***a out,” she tweeted. “I’m sorry to all who has already purchased tickets to see me I will make sure everyone gets refunded!”

Teyana didn’t mince words either as she explained why she couldn’t go on with the tour, tweeting directly at Jeremih: “Lazy, sneaky, jealous, conniving, [selfish], lame ass n—a! Don’t ever try to play me Petunia! They come to see me then 80% of the room leave after MY SET! [I] work my ass off every city, every night! You’ve done nothing this whole tour but act like a DIVA in ya princess chair.”

Teyana went into more detail on her Instagram story, accusing Jeremih of sabotaging her set and thanking her for opening for him while they were in Boston even though they were co-headlining the tour.

The next day, in a hilarious plot twist, Taylor tweeted that Jeremih had been “removed” from the tour, an upcoming date in Toronto would be rescheduled, and she would be performing the remaining dates as a solo act and keeping Dani Leigh as her special guest.

“#LaterThatNightTour will now be the #KTSEOnAlseVII TOUR,” she wrote on Twitter. “Toronto will be rescheduled for later this week & All other dates will remain the same. I will also keep @DaniLeigh on as my special guest. I promised y’all I would work it out regardless. #womenempowerment #LevelUp”

After a fan asked for clarification about whether or not Jeremih was removed, Teyana confirmed: “He’s been removed from the tour.”

So, basically, homeboy got kicked off his own tour. Dayum.

Aside from a shady Instagram post, Jeremih remained mum on the beef, but he broke his silence today in an interview with Hot Rod from Power 92 Chicago.

He denied Teyana’s allegations of him being a sneaky and conniving person and explained why most of the crowd leaves after Teyana’s set. According to Jeremih, Teyana would ask her fans to go backstage for the meet and greet, which would leave a very thin crowd for him.

Jeremih also accused Taylor of exhibiting her own “diva” behavior when she allegedly “got mad over some chicken wings one night.” In the end, Jeremih said it’s “all love” and he has no problems with Teyana.

Jeremih followed up with a tweet Friday night (Aug. 17), saying that he holds “no resentment or vengeance in [his] heart” despite him being “extremely pissed about the disrespectful comments and name calling” from Teyana.

WATCH: Janet Jackson’s “Made For Now” Video Feat. Daddy Yankee

It’s been three years since Janet Jackson has released new music, but that changed Thursday (Aug. 16) when the pop icon dropped a hot new single called “Made For Now,” a collaboration with reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee.

The uplifting anthem, produced by Harmony Samuels, was inspired by Janet’s love of music from around the globe. The Dave Meyers-directed visual sees Jackson and a bevy of dancers from all around the world taking to the streets of Brooklyn for a huge dance party.

Jackson and her longtime creative director Gil Duldulao handpicked the international dance crew, who hail from Ghana, Nigeria, Trinidad, Ghana and the U.S. The dance party moves from the streets, to a rooftop, an apartment, and various other locations.

“Made For Now” is Janet’s first music release since her 11th studio album Unbreakable in October 2015 and will serve as the first single from that project’s highly anticipated follow-up.

Janet is currently on the second leg of her “State of the World Tour,” which wraps on October 2nd in Atlantic City. She and Daddy Yankee are scheduled to perform “Made for Now” for the first time Friday night (Aug. 17) on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin Dead at 76

Aretha Franklin, best known as the “Queen of Soul,” died Thursday (Aug. 16) following a lengthy battle with advanced pancreatic cancer.

According to TMZ, Franklin passed away around 9:50 a.m. in her Detroit home where she had been under hospice care, her publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told the Associated Press.

The “Respect” singer had been in failing health for several months and was down to 86 pounds, TMZ reported. Sources close to the family say that they were informed over a week ago that Aretha could pass at any time.

Franklin’s family had asked for prayers on Sunday after it was first reported that she was “gravely ill” and near death.

“Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute” in Detroit, Quinn told the AP in a statement from Franklin’s family.

“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

Aretha Franklin was 76 years old and is survived by her four sons and longtime partner Willie Wilkerson.

More from TMZ:

She was surrounded by friends and family when she passed. Her family released a statement, saying, “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

She had appeared incredibly frail in recent years, and rarely performed live. Her most recent appearance was last November for Elton John’s AIDS Foundation 25th Anniversary Benefit.

Aretha’s career is just incredible. Born in Memphis in 1942, her family eventually relocated to Detroit where she began singing in her father’s church. She was such a powerhouse gospel singer, she landed a Columbia record deal in the early ’60s.

Her string of chart-topping hits began with her Atlantic Records deal in 1967.

Aretha’s achievements in the late ’60s were remarkable for any artist, but especially so for a black woman in the midst of the Civil Rights movement. She held the record for the most entries on the Hot 100 list of any female artist for nearly 40 years, only to be dethroned in 2017 by Nicki Minaj.

She won 18 Grammys and was the first woman ever inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Aretha delivered a powerful rendition of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” — while wearing that unforgettable hat — at Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration.

Throughout her career, Aretha was known for delivering incredible one-off live performances, including at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors show where she sang ‘Natural Woman’ in honor of the song’s co-writer, Carole King.
