In a recent interview with UK newspaper The Guardian, Jigga reflected on shooting his drug-addicted brother at the age of 12 over a stolen ring, an incident that is detailed in his soon-to-be released book “Decoded.”
“I thought my life was over,” Jay-Z told The Guardian. “I thought I’d go to jail forever. It was terrible. I was a boy, a child. I was terrified.”
Luckily, his brother survived the incident, apologized for his drug addiction and never pressed charges. But it definitely was something that always left an impression on Jay and later led him to write “You Must Love Me”.
“Saw the devil in your eyes, high off more than weed, confused, I just closed my young eyes and squeezed,” he says in the song.
