The manner in which Cory Monteith‘s untimely death will be dealt with on “Glee” has been revealed.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Monteith’s character Finn will be written out of the series. Kevin Reilly, Fox’s Chairman of Entertainment, made the announcement Thursday at the Television Critics Association press event in L.A. and said that the episode will deal with the dangers of drug use head on.
“The third episode will write Finn out of the show,” Reilly said. “That episode will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory’s passing and the drug abuse in particular. Ryan [Murphy] will shoot some PSA’s with the cast, who will speak directly to the audience,” he added.
Proceeds earned from the music featured on the episode will reportedly go to developing a foundation in Cory’s memory.
The news comes just days after the show’s executive producer Ken Ehrlich revealed to Deadline that a tribute to the actor will run during the Emmy Awards next month.
Cory Monteith was found dead on July 13 in a Vancouver, Canada hotel. An autopsy revealed that his death was caused by an overdose of alcohol and heroin. The 31-year-old actor had battled drug addiction in the past and had recently gone through a rehabilitation program.
