Singer Kelly Rowland attended an exclusive screening of Notorious, which premieres in theaters nationwide this Friday (Jan. 16th 2009) in Miami. Dallas Cowboys player Terrell Owens had some free time also (since Dallas won’t be in the play-offs this year because they suck … haha) so he hit up the screening in Miami too, while actress Keisha Knight Pulliam attended a screening in Atlanta.
Lebron James, who’s known to take great pride in his wardrobe, is featured on the cover of the February 2009 issue of GQ Magazine. But he can’t credit himself solely for his impeccable style. A few years ago, he hired a personal stylist who helps him out in the fashion department, and in the interview with GQ, he mentioned NBA commissioner David Stern, thanking him for instituting the rule where players have to get dressed for the game.
“I have to thank David Stern,” James said. “Ever since he put in the rule about having to get dressed for the game, I had to get dressed.”
The 24-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers player also mentioned how excited he was to be featured on the cover of GQ magazine.
“It’s great. It shows that I’m fashionable. I never thought I would be on the cover of GQ. But I’ve done some things I never thought I would do.”
According to reports published by The Associated Press, T.I. will have an MTV camera crew following him, in an effort to set teens straight, as he prepares to go to jail this March. Crews have already been following the Atlanta rapper since June 2008, and will continue to follow him after the show, “T.I.’s Road to Redemption,” premieres next month.
He’s already logged over 864 hours of community service, and must complete 136 more before March when he goes behind bars. According to reports, this show will only be in addition to, and not count towards his community service hours, but he hopes that it will scare teens straight.
Jermaine Dupri has made it known that he isn’t speaking out about his abrupt departure from Def Jam records because he’s bitter. In an exclusive interview with Essence, the rapper said that he owes it to his fans that see him every day on the Internet. He also mentioned how he feels as if Def Jam is one big clique and the fact that he hasn’t spoken with L.A. Reid in over 3 months.
ESSENCE.COM: The blogosphere has been abuzz recently about your exit from Island Def jam Records as president of urban music. Why did you leave the label?
JERMAINE DUPRI: It was a situation where it felt very stagnant to me. As a person who is used to putting out new records and continuing to do that, it just wasn’t turning over as being that place to me where I should stick to it and see if it was going to turn around.
ESSENCE.COM: What would you say was your biggest problem with the label?
JERMAINE DUPRI: It wasn’t giving me the open door that I thought it was going to. It wasn’t aggressive enough and it was a big letdown for me. I thought I was going to a place that understood the times we were in as a music business and how aggressive we needed to be with putting out new projects and records. This is the reason I’m speaking out; not because I’m bitter, but because I owe it to my fans that see me every day on the Internet. I wanted to let them know because they’ve left a lot of comments on my YouTube saying, “JD, you talk about everything else; why aren’t you talking about this [label] situation?”
Fantasia figured out a way to get her $1.1 million home back from the company she owed $58,000 in unpaid loans to. According to TMZ, the American Idol winner borrowed the money from Broward Energy Partners to pay taxes. The auction, which was set to go on yesterday, was called off at the last minute by the Charlotte native after she struck a deal with the company to keep her home.

President-elect Barack Obama plans to order the closing of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay as early as his first week in office. The closing of the prison will show a break from the Bush administration’s approach to the war on terror. Officials say it would follow Obama’s campaign promise to shut down the prison through executive order.
Obama on ABC’s “This Week”:
“It is more difficult than I think a lot of people realize and we are going to get it done, but part of the challenge that you have is that you have a bunch of folks that have been detained, many of whom who may be very dangerous who have not been put on trial or have not gone through some adjudication,”
The military prison at Guantanamo Bay is a major issue because it has become a symbol of mismanagement and overreach in the war on terror.
R&B singer R. Kelly and his wife of 11 years, Andrea Lee Kelly, are officially divorced, according to a statement released from his lawyers last Thursday (Jan. 8th). While details haven’t been really made clear, the singer/songwriter/producer and his ex-wife will have joint-custody of their three children.
“The parties have reached an amicable resolution concerning all issues related to their marriage and will share joint custody of their three children,” the announcement said. “The details of this agreement will remain confidential and the family requests that their privacy be respected during this time.”
R&B singer Jill Scott is expecting her first child with her fiancee of 7 months Jon Roberts. The singer, due to give birth in April 2009, found out she was expecting shortly before she took a trip to Africa to film her new HBO TV series, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.
She tells People.com, “The first trimester I spent in Botswana. That was one of the biggest challenges of my life. First trimester! You’re sick every morning. It was seven hours time difference, the heat, the bugs, the 14 hour days. My doctors gave me a clean bill of health and said you can do this (continue working), so I did it.”

Ciara songs from Fantasy Ride are leaking like crazy. This “Roll Call” track is ATL styled up CRUNK featuring Lil’ Jon and Lil’ Wayne. This song is definitely for the lovers of CRUNK. I’m a little disappointed though in all the tracks we’ve heard thus far from Ciara’s project. They all are rather lackluster and are missing something that the last albums delievered. Hopefully, Ciara picks up the notes and brings it but she always does.

A&E publicists have announced that actor Patrick Swayze who has been battling with pancreatic cancer for the past year has checked himself into the hospital due to pneumonia. Swayze was set to present his latest project entitled The Beast at Friday’s Television Critics Association press event in Universial City, California but because of his sudden sickness he did not attend.
“As we arrived here this morning we have some news,” A&E President Abbe Raven said. “Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today’s panel. We wish him the very best with his recover.”
The Beast is scheduled to premiere Jan. 15 at 10pm on A&E.

One of our favorite MCs, Kanye West, will we be the face of the February 2009 issue of VIBE Magazine. In the issue, Kanye talks about his recent incidents with the paparazzi and even talks about the album, 808s & Heartbreaks, of which he feels was his greatest yet. I personally don’t feel that 808s & Heartbreaks was better than Graduation but according to the issue, Kanye thinks otherwise.
Kanye Vents On The Paparazzi:
“I haven’t done anything violent. They make it seem like I actually went and hit the paparazzi. I haven’t. I was restrained. I’m good at restraining myself from committing violent acts. I know how to control my temper. That one paparazzo made it a bigger deal. I just put my hand up and he felt like he had more right to my personal space than I did. I put my hand up to stop him from shooting me.”
Kanye on 808s & Heartbreaks:
“I do think it’s my best album to date. No, I actually know this is my best album to date. Do I think it will be my best album ever? No, Ill improve. Do I think there are mistakes in it? Yes.
