LL Cool J made a song about knocking people out, and he did just that early Wednesday morning when somebody thought it would be a good idea to break into his home.
According to multiple confirmed reports, the rapper turned actor took down a would-be burglar with his own bare hands in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
The Los Angeles Times reported that LL was upstairs asleep in his Studio City, CA home when he heard a noise downstairs in the kitchen. After going downstairs to investigate, he found the intruder, who reportedly “came at him,” which lead to the fight.
Using some of those killer “NCIS:Los Angeles” moves, the 44-year-old struggled with and subdued the intruder until police arrived.
Los Angeles police Sgt. Frank Preciado told the Associated Press that police got a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. local time from the LL Cool J’s daughter, who said an intruder was in their home, and her father was holding him downstairs.
“A physical altercation occurred between the suspect and the victim, James Todd Smith, also known professionally as LL Cool J,” Preciado said. “My understanding is he just had him in custody with his physical strength.”
While the L.A. Times, citing police sources, said that the 58-year-old suspect — described as a transient (fancy word for “homeless person”) — received a broken nose and jaw in what they described as a “knock-down, drag-out” fight, early police information said that the man only received minor cuts and bruises.
LAPD spokesman Richard French said he had no knowledge about the suspect’s injuries or how he may have gotten into the home, which is surrounded by a huge wall and gate, and is located in a wealthy section of the San Fernando Valley.
The suspect was booked for burglary, and police say LL Cool J will not be facing any assault charges.
“LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern,” a statement released to AP by his publicist read. “As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter.”
No word just yet from LL Cool J’s mama, who said “knock you out!”
