Rapper Big Boi, one half of the hip-hop duo known as Outkast, has confirmed that he’s jumping ship and making a big move from Jive Records to Def Jam Records, where he will finally get a chance to release his long-delayed solo album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.
“The lawyers just have to finish their lawyering,” Big explained, and added that he was happy to be working with LaFace co-founder and current Island Def Jam Chairman and CEO LA Reid again, since “he’s been with us since the beginning.”

The Beastie Boys will have to hold off the release of their new album and cancel some upcoming gigs due to a shocking announcement that one of the group’s members, Adam “MCA” Yauch, has been diagnosed with cancer. The hip-hop pioneer made the announcement via a video on YouTube, alongside bandmate Adam Horovitz, saying that doctors recently found cancer in his parotid gland (located in the throat) and in a lymph node. According to Yauch himself, in most cases if spotted early on (which it was), doctors are able to completely get rid of it.
The video announcement was remarkable for its informality and immediacy. As it begins Mr. Yauch says “This is crazy” and the two men laugh. Mr. Horovitz quickly says, “It’s not funny,” and Mr. Yauch agrees: “It’s not funny. It’s dead serious.” He then says “I have some pretty heavy news” and begins a rambling description of his symptoms, delivering the news of the cancer diagnosis a minute into the video.
Rocking a fresh pair of Air Yeezy’s, rapper Common took the stage Sunday afternoon (Jul 19) in Wantagh, New York as he performed in front of thousands of fans at the 2009 Rock The Bells concert at the Nikon a Jones Beach Theater. Fellow hip-hop artists Method Man, Nas and Big Boi also performed at the annual concert.

Rapper Gucci Mane is known to be in and out of prison and when rumors sparked of him being sent back to the clink, we couldn’t help but think there was SOME truth to them. But fortunately for all of you Gucci fans out there, you can rest easy because his lawyer is shooting down claims that his client, Radric Davis (Gucci’s gov. name), is in jail:
“Gucci Mane is not incarcerated. His attorneys are addressing all pending issues through the courts,” his attorney Dwight Thomas said in a statement.

Gucci Mane, who started out his career as an underground mixtape rapper, has seen a bit of mainstream success recently with him being featured on the remix to Mariah Carey‘s “Obsessed” track, of which a video was shot and is set to premiere sometime this month or early next month. He was also a featured artist on Mario‘s “Break Up” track, which also features producer-turned-singer Sean Garrett. So we’d advise Gucci Mane to play nice and keep his azz out of jail so that he can make some of this money. It’s kind of hard to do that behind bars…

It’s been nearly half a year since Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna, and Monday (Jul 20) his people released this video of him publicly apologizing for the first time since the altercation took place. In the video, he states that at the advice of his lawyers, he’s remained quiet until the legalities of the situation were straightened out, but he expressed that he deeply regrets the fight and added that he “accepts full responsibility.” Check out the video after the cut!

Joseph Simmons Jr., best known as “JoJo” on MTV’s Run’s House, plead guilty to disorderly conduct after being popped by the police back in May after they caught him rolling up a joint while he was in a car along the Upper West Side. He was sentenced to serve just one day of community service.
Police accused Rev. Run’s son of backing up and attempting to evade the cops when he was caught with the rolled marijuana joint, which tacked on another charge: resisting arrest, in addition to his other charges of drug possession, reckless endangerment and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
But a few days after his arrest, he scored a plea deal with prosecutors and most of the serious charges mentioned above were dropped. The plea deal included him admitting to the disorderly conduct charge.
So Young Simmons got off pretty easy! Someone should definitely be counting their blessings right about now…
Last week reports surfaced that Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri had ended their seven-year relationship but according to Pop Tarts, the two are just on a little break and will “be back together in full force very soon.”
“Jermaine has decided to take a step back and cool things off but they aren’t totally broken up,” said an insider, adding that keeping his distance from the press and Jackson family is his way of dealing with death and tragedy.
We’re told Jackson and Dupri’s romance turned rocky last September when Janet’s album “Discipline” (produced by her beau) flopped and she was then released from her contract with label Island Def Jam per her request. To make matters worse, at the time Dupri was President of the label’s Urban Music division, although he stepped down in January of this year. But despite the hiccups, the music moguls worked through it and just a few weeks prior to Michael’s death they even enjoyed a getaway together in Monaco along with Jermaine Jackson and his partner Halima Rashid.
