According to reports published by Entertainment Weekly, famous movie director Bill Condon is currently shopping around an idea for a new biopic about the life of the late Richard Pryor. Actor/comedian Eddie Murphy has been hand picked by Condon to portray the Pryor, who died of a heart attack in December 2005.
Writer/director Bill Condon, who just completed his debut run as producer of the 2009 Academy Awards, is shopping his script Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? to the studio subsidiaries and independent distributors around town. Eddie Murphy is attached to star. Sources tell EW.com that Fox Searchlight, the studio behind this year’s big Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, is interested in the film. The studio, which declined comment, has a relationship with Condon, having partnered with the director on his 2004 feature Kinsey.
Condon, who most recently wrote and directed Dreamgirls, had the Pryor biopic set up at The Weinstein Company but was able to pull it out when the indie outfit put it into turnaround. He initially was hoping to secure $30 million to produce the film, but that number, sources say, has dropped down to $25 million. Murphy, who has featured Pryor impersonations in his act as far back as the 1987 concert movie Raw, seems a likely choice for this role.

It definitely sucks to be Eddie Murphy right about now. The 47-year-old actor/comedian was ordered by a judge in a Los Angeles courthouse to pay out $51,000 per month in child support to former girlfriend, Melanie Brown until their now 22-month old daughter, Angel Iris, turns 18 years old.
It’s also being reported that he has agreed to see his daughter for the first time since she was born. A friend of Mel B said that the former Spice Girl was happy about the court’s decision in the case.
“Mel is delighted that the case is over as she just wanted what was right for the girl. It was never about the money – it was Mel’s way of asking Eddie to show consideration for Angel.”
It’s good that Eddie finally decided to step up to the plate and take care of his child. And it only took 22 months!
MARY J. BLIGE & JAY-Z SUED OVER HIT SONG » R&B soul singer Mary J. Blige and long-time rapper friend Jay-Z are being sued over Mary J’s hit single, “Enough Cryin’” According to the federal lawsuit, which involves allegations of song theft, Jermaine Jumpp and MIchael C. Adams claim they dropped off a CD at Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins’ office, and that CD had a song on it caleld “On My Grind.”
Despite not hearing back from the megaproducer, they say the track appeared on Mary J. Blige’s album, The Breakthrough, as a song titled “Enough Cryin’.” The song, which was produced by Darkchild, later went on to become a single and had a fairly successful run on the Billboard charts. Adams and Jumpp claim MJB’s song sounds awfully familiar to their “On My Grind” song.
No amount in damages has been specified, but the duo is likely to request something to the tune of millions of dollars since the album went multi-platinum. Jay-Z wasn’t featured on the track vocally, but he received album credit as the co-writer of the song. No trial date has been announced yet.

Actor/comedian Eddie Murphy has made it clear to the public that Melanie Brown (aka Mel B or “Scary Spice”) deliberately tricked him into getting her pregnant. According to The Daily Mail, the former Spice Girls singer stressed to the actor that she was on birth contol, and Eddie claims that the former couple only had sex 3 times. And although he accepts the fact that Angel Iris Murphy-Brown is indeed his daughter, a source close to Eddie says that he will not see her until she’s 18 years old. Why?
