Rumors are running rampant on the internet insisting that Jay-Z was the force behind Chris Brown not being able to pay homage to Michael Jackson at the 2009 BET Awards. A rapper just doesn’t have that kind of power. It was the BET execs, and more importantly the Viacom execs, who decided it wouldn’t be good for their “image” to let Chris Brown perform. Believe what and who you want to believe, but our sources can confirm that Jay-Z had NOTHING to do with Chris Brown being axed from the show at the very last minute.
Janet Jackson Speaks on Her Family’s Behalf at the 2009 BET Awards
In what had to have been one of the most difficult moments in her life, the late Janet Jackson took the stage at the 2009 BET Awards to thank everyone for their prayers and support in honor of her big brother, Michael Jackson.
“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful … To you, Michael is an icon; to us, Michael is family and he will forever live in all of our hearts.”
Her unexpected appearance was met with applause and a standing ovation from the teary-eyed crowd. And we’re very proud of her for being strong enough to walk out on stage, speak to millions of people and keep her composure. We know how close she and Michael were. After Janet left the stage, Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx closed out the show with a beautiful rendition of “I’ll Be There.” Continue reading for more photos and video.
2009 BET Awards: Show – Jamie Foxx, Soulja Boy, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Monica and Others
Here Jamie Foxx can be seen paying tribute to Michael Jackson (comedically, of course) as the host of the 2009 BET Awards, which aired live from Los Angeles Sunday night (Jun 28) on BET. Jamie Foxx is probably one of the few people who can make light of a sad situation and have everyone laughing and crying at the same time. The BET Awards was supposed to dedicate the entire show to Michael, per the press release sent out Friday, but failed to impress.
The show itself was pretty good, but they should have never mentioned dedicating the show to MIchael if they didn’t have the time to do it right. That said, we really hope they put together an entire special to honor the late King of Pop so they can at least try to save face. But for now, continue reading for photos of Soulja Boy, Jay-Z, Monica, Beyonce, Ne-Yo and many more celebrities who participated in this year’s BET Awards.
2009 BET Awards: Red Carpet Arrivals – Kanye West, Amber Rose, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Tyrese, Soulja Boy and Others
Here’s a shot of Kanye West and his girlfriend Amber Rose on the red carpet of the 2009 BET Awards, which went down Sunday (Jun 28) in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium. The show itself pretty much sucked. And that’s us being nice. But for the most part, everyone looked good on the red carpet. Continue reading for 80+ pics of celebrities like Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Tyrese, Soulja Boy, Ciara, Mario and tons more!
2009 BET Awards: Press/Media Room – Day 26, Trey Songz, Alicia Keys, Ciara, Drake and Others

Joe Jackson at the 2009 BET Awards + Video of Him on the Red Carpet with CNN
Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family, gave his first public interview since Michael Jackson‘s shocking death to CNN on the red carpet of Sunday’s (Jun 28) 2009 BET Awards. Between him having other people speak for him, referring to his family losing “the biggest superstar in the world” and plugging his new record label at the end, we just think ol’ Joe Jackson was there to show face, instead of honoring his SON. It’s kind of weird how he referred to Mike as “the biggest superstar in the world” instead of his son. He just seems so indifferent to it all. Everything is just business with this guy and the entire interview gives off an awkward vibe.
CNN: I know the last couple of days has been tough for you guys…
Joe: And?… Yeah, it has. It’s been really tough. Remember we just lost the biggest superstar in the world, so it’s been tough…

The Real Reason Why Chris Brown Didn’t Perform in Honor of Michael Jackson at the 2009 BET Awards
BET needs to be ashamed of themselves for using Michael Jackson‘s name to hype up ratings. Because that’s EXACTLY what they did. If you didn’t catch the 2009 BET Awards, trust us … you didn’t miss much. The show was obviously thrown together at the last minute, and they should have left MJ’s name out of it if they weren’t going to deliver.
On Friday, via their official website, they put out a story saying that they would be “shifting gears” to honor Michael Jackson and his contributions to the world of music and the entire world in general. The final result? A sloppy mess that looks like it was put together in an AOL Instant Messenger chat room the day before. Now we’re not going to knock Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo for their tributes, because they were on point. And even Ciara did her thing too. But no one would have done a tribute like Chris Brown…
The Jackson Family Releases Official Statement
Michael Jackson‘s family have taken a moment from this emotional time in their lives to release an official statement regarding the death of their son and brother:
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives we find it hard to find the words appropriate to this sudden tragedy we all had to encounter. Our beloved son, brother and father of three children has gone so unexpectedly, in such a tragic way and much too soon. It leaves us, his family, speechless and devastated to a point where communication with the outside world seems almost impossible at times.
Usher and Sean Garrett Working on Divorce Track for New Album
Usher‘s new forthcoming album Monster has been receiving a lot of attention lately and with a new song about divorce and filling out papers slated to be on it, the entire album itself is bound to turn heads. Producer Sean “The Pen” Garrett apparently wrote a track about filling out divorce papers before he knew of any drama between Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster and had the R&B singer lend his vocals for the song, which holds no official title as of yet.
“[Songwriter] Sean Garrett called me to the studio,” producer Zaytoven, who’s worked on songs for Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman, told MTV News last week in Atlanta. “He called like, ‘You’ve got to come hear this song. I’ve got a hit.’ ” Zay went to the studio and heard Garrett’s reference vocals on the track, and soon after heard the finished version with Usher’s vocals.
Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” Tour to Become a One-Show Tribute Concert!
According to recent reports, Michael Jackson‘s “This Is It” tour will now become a one performance tribute show to Jackson. The concert will be held in September, will include many high-profile singers and will be a replica of the original “This Is It” tour, scheduled to kick off in London just weeks after the King of Pop passed away. The tour would have also been his last tour, as implied by the press release held in March 2009.
You should definitely expect singers from Beyonce to Chris Brown to pounce on this as it will definitely be the must-see concert of the year. But with one show, you have to wonder how they will handle tickets. We think the thousands that already paid to see him should be able to buy tickets first but then again, it’s not up to us. What do you think about the tribute concert and those already holding tickets?
Missy Elliott Scores her Own Biopic
Rapper Missy Elliot is in the works to produce a film that accurately portrays her life; from her traumatic past to her rise to fame in the 1990s.
“It’s happening; I’ve just got to find a great writer because I wouldn’t want my story watered down,” she tells Elle Magazine. “I went through a lot, and I accomplished a lot, and I want people to know how it all went down.”
Missy, born Melissa Arnette, was repeatedly raped by an older cousin from the age of eight and also witnessed her father abusing her mother. During the 1990s, she became a star and is the only female rapper to have six certified platinum albums.
Hopefully this means a new Missy album soon. She’s been gone for too long. Would you go see a Missy biopic?
Scott Storch Ready for a Comeback! // Reality Show Coming Soon
Big time producer Scott Storch has signed on to to star in a reality show about his comeback to the music industry.
Storch, who has cooked up hits for singers like Beyonce, Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Danity Kane, etc., fell off the radar earlier this year when he missed payments on his $10 million Miami mansion, became a wanted man for owing the IRS almost $1 million in back taxes, and above all … started using cocaine.
The show will be produced by Bunim/Murray Productions (Real World, Road Rules, Project Runway, etc.). It will most likely air sometime next year.
We’re definitely excited for this. Storch has never really allowed cameras to detail exactly how his hits are made. Not to mention how interesting it will be to see if he can really make a comeback. Will you be watching when it airs?
Rihanna’s Dad Speaks: “[Chris] should be in jail!”
Rihanna‘s father, Ronald Fenty, is furious at the sentencing that Chris Brown received for assaulting his daughter. The “Take You Down” singer was assigned six months community service and five years of probation for his felony assault. But Rihanna’s father thinks he should have received more.
“He should be in jail. Chris should have been sent to jail for what he did to my girl. He’s got off lightly. Chris put her through hell.”
Both Chris Brown and Rihanna are expected to appear at tonight’s BET Awards and according to his sentencing, he is to be no less than 10 yards away from her.

Quincy Jones: “I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don’t have the words. Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80’s. To this day, the music we created together on Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all…talent, grace, professionalism and dedication.
