The white police officer in Fort Worth, Texas who fatally shot a black woman in her home own while she was babysitting her nephew over the weekend has been arrested and charged with murder.

Jail records show that former officer Aaron York Dean is being held on $200,000 bond at the Tarrant County Correction Center for the shooting death of Atatiana Jefferson.

His arrest comes just hours after he resigned from the Fort Worth Police Department before he could be formally charged.

“Had the officer not resigned, I would have fired him for violations for several policies, including our use of force policy, our de-escalation policy and unprofessional conduct,” Fort Worth Police Chief Ed Kraus said at a press conference Monday.

Dean still could face further criminal charges as well as possible civil rights violations, Kraus added.
