R&B Diva Mariah Carey is hoping to erase “Triumphant“ from the mind’s of the music buying public with her brand new single, “Almost Home.”
The Grammy Award-winner recorded the track for the upcoming Sam Raimi directed film, “Oz The Great and Powerful” and it’s also set to serve as the lead single for her new album. The song is expected to be a power ballad with big soprano vocals reminiscent of Carey’s 90’s vocal heyday.
At this point in Mariah’s career she has two options. She can either:
A.) Continue to complete with the new wave of pop stars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga by releasing juvenile R&B/Hip-Hop tracks like “Triumphant” that fail to highlight her voice and instead bog her down underneath trendy production, auto-tune and a hodgepodge of unnecessary rappers, OR…
B.) Give the people what they want and make a timeless collection of R&B/Pop music. Forget about what’s “hot” and relevant — instead go back to the soulful R&B from her first few albums which brought melismatic singing, memorable melodies and heartfelt songwriting to the forefront.
“Almost Home” will be released as a single by Carey’s label, Island Def Jam, on February 19, 2013.
“Oz The Great and Powerful” stars Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and James Francis and is set to hit theaters on March 8th.
