Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger are engaged to be married, after just six months of dating, Lavigne’s spokeswoman confirmed with People Magazine this week.
According to People, unbeknownst to many, the 27-year-old pop singer and 37-year-old rocker first got together in February to co-write a song for Lavigne’s upcoming fifth studio album.
“A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together,” a friend of Avril said.
Six months later, on August 8th, Kroeger reportedly popped the question, and presented his new fiancee with a 14-carat diamond sparkler. She, of course, said yes.
“He makes her so happy,” a family source told People. “Both of their families could not be more excited.”
Though this will be Kroeger’s first marriage, this is marriage number two for Lavigne, who filed for divorce from her first husband, Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley, in 2009 and finalized the split in 2010.
Avril and Chad have so far managed to keep their relationship seemingly under the radar, although the couple were photographed in May getting cozy during a lunch/shopping date in Paris.
