Heavy D, known as one of the most influential rappers in the early stages of Hip-Hop, unexpectedly died today.
According to TMZ, the rap legend was found passed out outside of his Beverly Hills home at around 2:30 PM EST and someone called 911.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, Heavy D (real name: Dwight Arrington Myers) was conscious and speaking. He was then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later.
He was pronounced dead at 1 PM Eastern time. He was 44 years old.
Heavy D’s shocking death comes after the rapper performed with LaToya Jackson at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Wales on October 8th.
A week before that, he performed a medley of his chart-topping hits at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, dancing up a storm and looking pretty healthy.
