The official nominations for the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards are in … and guess who’s leading the pack of nominees?
We’ll give you a hint: The same guy who sold almost a million albums last week!
Lil Wayne landed a whopping 18 nominations in categories like “Best Live Performer,” “Lyricist of the Year,” “MVP of the Year,” “Track of the Year,” and more.
Following behind Weezy with 9 nods is Kanye West, who is also nominated in a few of the aforementioned categories Wayne is nominated in, as well as a few others, including “Video Director of the Year,” “Producer of the Year” and “CD of the Year.” Hip-Hop newcomer Wiz Khalifa was also nominated in 9 different categories.
Other rappers up for multiple trophies include Nicki Minaj, Big Sean, Jay-Z and Chris Brown, who technically isn’t considered a “rapper,” but definitely made a big splash on the Hip-Hop scene this year with his “Look at Me Now” single. R&B singer Frank Ocean (who has “rap connections” due to him being in shock rap group Odd Future) was also nominated for a few awards.
Hosted by actor/comedian Mike Epps for the third time in a row, the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards will air on BET on October 11th after the show is recorded at the Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on October 1st.
