Who cares about health & safety measures when your favorite star is willing to tattoo you with a homemade tattoo kit?

Ke$ha reportedly used a needle and a pen to draw her famous $ sign on a fan’s ankle backstage during a recent meet-and-greet session.

Details and video footage from the … “unique” procedure are below:

According to Pop Eater:

The singer, who just turned 24, is confident and upbeat during the backstage encounter, during which she told her superfan, “OK, it might hurt,” while branding him with small, dark blur (that’s actually a dollar sign symbol). With the new tattoo a done deal, Ke$ha sealed the procedure with an affectionate hug.

But where on earth did Ke$ha get the “brilliant” idea of using a pen and a needle to create on-the-fly tattoos?

“A friend of mine told me you can [make a tattoo] with pen ink and a safety pin, and I was like, ‘That’s amazing,'” she told Paper Magazine last year. “I saw this hot dude recently and I gave him a tattoo sitting in the lobby of the hotel. I was just like, ‘Can I borrow a pen and a sewing kit?’ I think I got an admirer out of that one.”

Uhm, no thanks Ke$ha. That does NOT sound sanitary … at all. We’ll just stick to letting licensed professionals do our tattoos!
