The 11th season of Dancing with the Stars premiered Monday night (Sep 20) and everyone is talking about how well Jennifer Grey did on the show!
The “Dirty Dancing” star hit the stage in a blue dress and wowed the judges with her performance, which earned her the highest score of the night: 24 out of 30.
“Baby is back where she belongs,” judge Bruno Tonioli said before adding: “I know somebody up there is going to be very proud of you.”
That “somebody” is most likely Grey’s good friend and “Dirty Dancing” co-star Patrick Swayze, who died a year ago after a 2-year battle with cancer.
Just before making her big debut on “Dancing with the Stars,” Grey revealed in an interview that Swayze inspired her to go on the show. And when a song from she and Swayze’s movie “Dirty Dancing” was played during rehearsals, it all became too much for Grey, who broke down in tears as she practiced with her partner Derek Hough.
According to Britain’s Daily Mail, after she composed herself and returned to rehearsal, she told Hough:
“It took me back in a time capsule, and I was with Patrick. I just missed him. He was like you, young and gorgeous.”
