Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family, gave his first public interview since Michael Jackson‘s shocking death to CNN on the red carpet of Sunday’s (Jun 28) 2009 BET Awards. Between him having other people speak for him, referring to his family losing “the biggest superstar in the world” and plugging his new record label at the end, we just think ol’ Joe Jackson was there to show face, instead of honoring his SON. It’s kind of weird how he referred to Mike as “the biggest superstar in the world” instead of his son. He just seems so indifferent to it all. Everything is just business with this guy and the entire interview gives off an awkward vibe.

CNN: I know the last couple of days has been tough for you guys…

Joe: And?… Yeah, it has. It’s been really tough. Remember we just lost the biggest superstar in the world, so it’s been tough…

I feel bad for Don Lemon, Mr. Jackson seemed so out of the interview and he really wasn’t even looking at Don Lemon.

I was shocked that Joe Jackson took this opportunity to highlight his record label during an interview regarding the death of his son. I met Mr. Jackson last year at his 80th birthday party which was given to him by Rick Neville, his then business partner. I find the behavior of Mr. Jackson during the interview at the BET Awards to be what I acknowledged when I met him…self-centered and insensitive.

Joe Jackson, with “his best interests at heart”, three days after Michael Jackson’s death, didn’t waste any time to be at the red carpet at BET Awards.
Quite frankly, he seemed fairly detached to me.
With all due respect that I reserve for elderly people, that promoting business was out of proportion, out of order, despicable and inappropriate.
Every article coming out about Michael’s life and death does not hide the fact that his father was a brutal disciplinarian, and that Michael’s childhood was an abusive one.
That episode alone showed the whole world what Joe Jackson is about it.
Callous, disrespectful and greedy old man. He is 80 years old for Christ Sake! It was horrifically to watch the detached and abusive old-fart, switching gears, without shame to promote his record company. As I watched it, words fall me.
Michael Jackson-Peaceful be your Next Journey.
