The 2016 BET Awards featured a number of Prince tributes, and while Jennifer Hudson may have blew the house down vocally with her rendition of “Purple Rain,” Janelle Monae and her impeccable stage presence tore the roof off with her tribute performance.
Running through a handful of songs from the Purple One’s catalog of hits, including “Delirious,” “Kiss,” “Pop Life” and “I Would Die 4 U,” Monae gave the night’s most energetic Prince tribute, and she did it all while dressed in the music legend’s iconic “assless chaps” look he wore to the 1991 VMAs.
The chaps with the butt out weren’t immediately noticeable, but you could definitely see it at the end of the performance when she dropped her cape and spun around to show off the look:
