Despite being a billionaire who only makes more and more money every single year, Oprah Winfrey still has to contend with stupid, racist white people who don’t even make a fraction of what she makes in an hour and their elitism.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Oprah recalled that during a recent solo shopping trip:
“I was in Zurich the other day at a store, whose name I will not mention, and I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karan skirt and my little sandals and all that on, but obviously The Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich. This doesn’t happen to me unless somebody obviously doesn’t know it was me.”
Oprah said that she then asked the clerk to show her a luxury crocodile bag by Tom Ford that was worth about $40,000.
“She says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive.'” She asked again, but the clerk kept at it going, “‘No, no, no. You don’t want to see that one. You want to see this one because that one will cost too much and you will not be able to afford that.'”
Winfrey tried a third time and said, “‘No, I really did want to see that one.’ And she refused to get it!”
The clerk proceeded to show Mother Oprah “these other little bags.” Oprah, realizing she’s a top notch earner and the person speaking to her was a dimwitted lesser continued, “One more time, I tried. I said, ‘But I really do just want to see that one.’ And she said, ‘Oh, I don’t want to hurt your feelings.’ I said, ‘Okay, thank you so much. You’re probably right. I can’t afford it.’ And I walked out of the store.”
Gayle told her that she should’ve gone back in that store and bought the whole place out. However, Oprah noted, “I could have had the big blowup thing and thrown down the black card and all that stuff, but why do that?”
I have seen Oprah Winfrey in person, and trust, she looks like a bag of money.
In a statement, Trudie Goetz, head of the Swiss luxury chain Trois Pommes, told Us Weekly:
“Any sales person would love to sell a crocodile bag. She simply explained [to Oprah] that the bag she wanted to look at was beautiful but in a very high price range and suggested lower priced models in leather, ostrich and so forth. It was a misunderstanding. The staff member who welcomed Oprah is one of the hardest working and regularly deals with VIP clients. There was no discrimination.”
Lies you tell. And by VIP clients, she meant white ones. Tuh.
The Swiss Tourism Office isn’t as stupid and have offered Oprah an apology. “We are very sorry for what happened to her,” Daniela Baer, a spokeswoman for the tourism office, told the AP. The tourism office went further, tweeting that the salesperson “acted terribly wrong” in this case.
Damn right they did.
