NeNe Leakes spent the bulk of season 5 on “Real Housewives of Atlanta” celebrating her “arrival” on the Hollywood scene since “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy gave her a starring role in his NBC sitcom “The New Normal”. But NeNe might’ve celebrated a little too soon since the show has now been cancelled.

Rumors of “The New Normal’s” death have been brewing for some time since the ratings were lakcluster to begin with. And while the show didn’t wow critics or viewers, it did achieve a milestone as a broadcast TV series with a homosexual couple as the main characters.

“The NBC executives get a lot of critique from the press, but they should be applauded for putting us on the air in the first place, because we still have a long way to go with equality in this country and around the world,” actor Justin Bartha said in a She Knows article. “When we started the show, we had a very specific conversation that our goal was to portray a homosexual couple in a realistic matter on network television, and I think we achieved that goal.”

For her part, NeNe did acknowledge the cancellation on her Twitter feed.

I can’t help but think NeNe knew that this show wouldn’t last, which is why her sneaky ass smartly kept one foot firmly planted in her reality TV roots. Thank god for Bravo!
