If Jennifer Hudson wasn’t proof that some of the best talent from “American Idol” is left out in the cold, season 7 contestant Syesha Mercado is exhibit B.
The talented singer finished in third place behind David Cook and David Archuleta (we know … WHO?) but she wasn’t offered a lucrative recording deal like most other Idol finalists. Instead, she’s been forced to eke out an existence through theater roles.
But in an attempt to drum up some interest around her independent recording career, Syesha released this stunning cover of Adele’s Oscar-winning Bond theme “Skyfall.” To say that she nailed it would be an understatement. She MURKED that shit.
While we won’t go as far to say that it trumped Adele’s version completely, it definitely stands on the same level as the original. Syesha brings all of the pain, hauntedness and vulnerability as Adele but in her own unique way.
Can this YouTube hit put some wind in the sails of Syesha’s fledgling career? We hope so. Cause it’s hard out for ex-Idol kids. Right, Justin Guarini?
