When it comes to serving hot, steaming shade to her fellow divas, Mariah Carey is a master chef.
She’s tangled with Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and now, more recently, Nicki Minaj. The two have been publicly squabbling ever since Nicki was added to the “American Idol” judges’ panel, a decision that Mariah did not agree with, as she wanted to be the only female judge.
The fire, as they say, is still burning and in an interview with Barbara Walters, Mariah gave Nicki Minaj 50 shades of shade when Barbara pulled out the lyric to her Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up song “Hell Yeah” when Nicki said, “I’m quick to check a bitch if she’s out of line” and asked Mariah if she was the “bitch” Nicki was “singing about.”
Mariah sighed heavily, rolled her eyes, looked away and said, “Don’t know. Don’t know what she’s saying. I didn’t know she sang, I thought she rapped, or whatever.” (Watch below)
NOTE: shade is thrown at around the 4:30 mark
Now the original faux pas here was Barbara’s for saying Nicki sang the diss when she actually rapped it, but Mimi knew what she was doing with her facial expressions and throwing that Mean Girls-like “whatever” at the end.
And what kind of interns does Barbara have feeding her this research? Cause we know Miss Walters isn’t sitting around listening to Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up for research.
MiMi also referred back to when Nicki allegedly threatened to “shoot that bitch” if she had a gun. While Nicki denies saying this, and though Mariah never really confirmed or denied whether or not that was actually said, she did admit to beefing up her security detail in order to maintain a “safe work environment” for herself.
“Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment,” Carey told Waters.” She added, “I just felt it was the appropriate thing to do. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not going to take any chances.”
Mariah says that she and Minaj have now “made up” (or can at least stand to be in the same room together), and she’s trying to make the best of the situation. “For all the drama, I hope it helps the show,” Carey said. “I think it’s a classic, classy show and it didn’t need this.”
Yes it did, Mariah. Yes it did!
