Actor Sherman Hemsley — best known as George Jefferson from “The Jeffersons” — died at his home in El Paso, Texas Tuesday (Jul 24).

Hemsley first became famous after making a couple of appearances on “All in the Family.” The show’s spin-off “The Jeffersons,” was a mega hit, and lasted 11 seasons with a total of 253 episodes.

Hemsley also also starred in the TV show “Amen” and has also made numerous TV and film appearances over the years.

His TV wife Isabel Sanford (who played Louise “Weezy” Jefferson) preceded him in death in 2004.

El Paso police confirmed the sad news of Sherman Hemsley’s death to TMZ with no other details on how he died. The 74-year-old also reportedly had no wife and no kids.
