Pop icon Madonna’s latest album has bombed terribly on the charts. Her 12th studio album “MDNA” which debuted on top of the Billboard charts last week after selling an amazing 359,000 copies has plummeted to a mere 46,000 in the second week.

That’s an 88% drop in sales!

And not only that, but no other No. 1 debuting album has had a sales drop that massive since Nielson Soundscan started tracking sales in 1991.

The percentage dip surpasses the record set by Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way,” when it fell 84.27% in its second week on the charts last June.

In its debut week, “Born This Way” bowed at No. 1 with 1.11 million copies sold, and then sold 174,000 in its second week at the top of the chart.

Speaking on Madge’s latest studio effort last week, her manager Guy Oseary confidently said:

“People are really digging it. We feel good about the album. It’s her 12th album and the same story she had 30 years ago. That’s an amazing accomplishment.”

Maybe Oseary should have waited for the reviews to come in, as the L.A Times was quoted as saying:

“MDNA more than anything sounds like an album made by someone who’s lost touch with the desires of today’s popular music… the Madonna of today has lost the art of surprise.”

Ouch!
