Following her success as a member of Danity Kane and Diddy-Dirty Money, R&B singer Dawn Richard is stepping out on her own as a solo artist, and has a released her debut music video.

“S.M.F.U. (Save Me From U),” produced by Druski, is dedicated to Dawn’s loyal fans, who she affectionately calls “Hearts,” and is set to appear on her upcoming debut solo album “GoldenHeart.”

The New Orleans native and Hurricane Katrina survivor explained the concept behind the song during a recent appearance on BET’s “106 & Park.”

“I was going through something really, really bad and instead of me trying to keep things private, I like to give my vulnerability, make it strong, and put it out there,” she said. “And I feel like there’s a lot of people who pretend to be a hero, but they really are the villains in this story.”
