Oprah Winfrey opened about her painful childhood last night on the premiere of “Piers Morgan Tonight.” The talk show host revealed that she contemplated suicide after getting pregnant at the age of 14.

Peep the video footage from the revealing interview, along with her quotes, below:

Winfrey explained:

“Getting pregnant was a result of bad choices, not having boundaries, sexual abuse from the time I was 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. […] I thought, ‘Before the baby was born, I’m going to have to kill myself.’

After her mother found out about her pregnancy she was immediately sent to live with her father in Nashville……who had no idea she was with child. Oprah recalled:

“My father, as a part of his decree about what’s gonna go on in this house… said to me… ‘These are the rules of the house, you are gonna obey the rules you have a 10 o’clock curfew and I would rather see a daughter of mine floating down the Cumberland River than to bring shame on this family and the indecency of an illegitimate child.'”

This left her feeling like suicide was the only other option she had.

“He’s saying that to me, and I know that I am pregnant. So I’m thinking, well, I’m just going to have to kill myself.”

However Oprah never took such action….and later was given a second chance after she lost her baby.

“But this is my 14-year-old self. I don’t even know what I thought the plan was going to be. You’re having a baby out of wedlock, your life is over. So when the baby died – the baby was never brought home from the hospital – when the baby died, I knew that it was my second chance.”

WOW Oprah! We’re glad you didn’t go through with that decision and realized that you had a purpose in store for your life. Check out the video footage from the interview below.
