Funnyman Will Ferrell has the title role in DreamWorks‘ new animated comedy “Megamind,” and to promote his new film, Ferrell and over 1,500 costumed superheroes gathered together over the weekend (Sat. Oct 2) in an effort to break the world record for the largest gathering of superheroes. And they did it!

The event was open to anyone who wanted to participate and was hosted by DreamWorks Animation to celebrate the release of “Megamind,” due in stores November 5th.

The original record was 1,500 so in order to break it, Ferrell had to get 1,501 costumed heroes together; and according to Guinness officials, the actor/comedian managed to get 1,580 eligible participants to set a new record.

“You and you alone have broken the Guinness Book of World Records today, right now, and everyone in a Spiderman outfit wins a new car! No? Oh okay, I was mistaken,” Ferrell said. “It’s very impressive that people would come out and have a great time and it’s a great kick-off for the movie,” Ferrell added. (Source)
