For the first time in Idol history, Fox is lowering the age requirement to audition for “American Idol” from 16 to 15-years-old. The executive producer of Idol believes that the scope of the industry is changing and talented, younger artists are becoming more popular (like Justin Bieber for instance), and they’re anxious to tap into that pool of talent.

“A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, executive producer of “Idol.” “Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.”

Though the minimum age has changed, the maximum age hasn’t, remaining at 28. As time goes on, expect more announcements for the reality show including Simon Cowell’s replacement and a new music director.
