Paparazzi-favorite and tabloid-mainstay Lindsay Lohan briefly appeared in court earlier this week with a new attitude. Well…not so much a new attitude, more like a new lawyer, a new trial date. But it’s a start, right?

Lohan has been telling the world that her personal life is on the mend and that she’s finally ready to make smart choices, however, if her appearance Wednesday (Jan 30) at a Los Angeles court house for violating her probation by lying to the cops is anything to go by, Ms. Lohan still has a long, long way to go.

Wearing a slinky black dress and the makeup from the day before, Lohan, who showed up nearly 10 minutes late, told L.A. County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner (who previously sent Lohan to jail and sentenced her to house arrest) that she would no longer be represented by Shawn Holley in favor of her new attorney, Mark Heller.

Lohan was required to attend the pretrial hearing where she answered to three (count ’em, THREE!) misdemeanor counts — lying to police, reckless driving and willfully obstructing police officers from performing their duties — filed after a car crash last summer, all of which she pleaded not guilty to. In addition to her newer charges, Lohan also faces probation violation in a jewelry theft case from 2011.

The “Liz & Dick” actress’ next hearings are scheduled for March 1st and March 18th, though she isn’t required to attend either since this is a misdemeanor case.

Also, Judge Sautner, who previously sent Lohan to jail, placed her under house arrest and ordered her to serve her community service at an L.A. County morgue, is reportedly retiring next month, so another judge — yet to be determined — will preside over the actual trial.

So with her new attorney and a brand new judge, it will most certainly be interesting to see what happens with Lindsay Lohan’s legal issues from here.

After the hearing, during a brief chat with the press, Lindsay’s lawyer was asked why he had a rabbit’s foot on his briefcase. “That’s for good luck,” Mark Heller said. “Lindsay Lohan is a great beauty with tremendous talent and I believe that all she really needs in life is a little bit of luck.”

We don’t know about all of that “great beauty with tremendous talent” stuff … but that last part is VERY true!
