Instead of spending the Fourth of July in the United States, Nicki Minaj jetted to her native country of Trinad, and shot a carnival-themed music video for her new Eurodance single “Pound the Alarm.”
Drassed head-to-toe in colorful carnival attire, the Young Money rapstress looked right at home as she paraded down the streets of Trinidad last Wednesday (Jul 4) and performed with Soca king Machel Montano and his HD dancers.
Director Benny Boom says that Nicki’s “Pound the Alarm” video will open up the eyes of everyone overseas to what there is in Trinidad and Tobago.
“I think Trinidad is a challenge sometimes, tourism wise, because in the (United) States at least people don’t know it as a location for beaches and that sort of thing, so I think that in that regard, you gotta get people to look at the island for what it offers,” he told Trinidad Newsday.
During the 12 hour plus video shoot, Nicki Minaj tweeted:
The heat in Trinidad is on another level. O-o The girls in the vid are drop dead gorgeous & I’m not just saying it cuz I’m from here! :p

And afterwards, she tweeted:
