During an interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” actor Michael Douglas disclosed that his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones had no choice but to speak out about her recent mental health issues.

“I must say, Catherine’s being quite open about it because she was outed, you know,” The 66 year old Hollywood actor explained to Oprah. She went to go get some help and some other patient probably in there said, ‘Hey, you won’t believe who’s in here now.’ And, so, once that happens, I think she felt it best to kind of get out the story.”

Zeta-Jones recently sought medical treatment for bipolar II disorder after feeling depressed. Douglas was diagnosed last year with stage 4 cancer of the throat but after aggressive treatment he beat the disease in January.

“My oldest son is in federal prison, my ex-wife is suing me and I got cancer,” Douglas said. “It’s kind of hard for the wife to say, ‘I’m depressed.’ ” He added, “I’m so proud of her for analyzing it and taking care of it . . . She’s relieved that she has a much better understanding.”
