Still nameless, the Royal Baby made his first appearance on Tuesday on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, where he was just born the day before, weighing in at 8 lbs., 6 oz.
As Gawker hilariously put it, “He looks like a baby.”
Cradling her newborn in her arms, Kate Middleton said to the media outside the hospital, “It’s very emotional and it’s such a special time. I think any parent probably knows what this feeling is like.”
Prince William added, “I’ll remind him of his tardiness when he’s a bit older, ’cause I know how long you’ve all been sat out here.”
For nostalgic purposes, here’s a side-by-side comparison, including the first photo of Prince William with his own parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, taken in June 1982 after he was born:
Notice how it was done in the same manner that William and Kate’s was, and you’ll also see that Kate is wearing a polka-dotted gown just like her late mother-in-law. Was it planned that way? Probably.
As far as The Royal Baby’s name is concerned, his parents are believed to have drawn up a shortlist of possible names, like James, George and Henry, though it could be a minute before the baby’s name is revealed to the public. It took a week after his birth for the royal family to announce Prince William’s name, and a month for them to announce Prince Charles’ name.
