One of the stranger things that has happened in the film industry over the past few years is that movies that weren’t good to begin with (cough “Ghost Rider,” “GI Joe”) are getting sequels. Now “Kick-Ass 2” has joined that list.
The film follows “Hit Girl” (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) as she — well … I’m not really sure, because the plot isn’t clear from the trailer. There just seem to be a lot of ridiculous people doing ridiculous things. If that doesn’t deter audiences, the uninventive shots of people getting hit in the nuts will.
Basically, it’s a lot of explosions and people walking in slow motion while a cool club track plays, just like every other action movie trailer ever.
Also, the studio probably thought it would be really shocking to show a 14-year-old say things like “game on cock suckers.” It’s not.
As unwatchable as the first film was, for me at least, it had a unique concept. Nerdy teens — and one child — fight off bad guys while making chuckle worthy mistakes. “Kick-Ass” also has the luxury of having great trailers that stood out from most film promos.
Even with that, the movie failed to do well. The 2010 flick, which cost $30 million to make, only grossed $48 million at the box office.
Since “Kiss-Ass 2” has none of that going for it, it’s safe to call it a dud even before its release. It’s only hope of generating an audience is the fact that Jim Carey has a role in it. But unfortunately, Carey hasn’t sold a movie in some time.
Anyway, here’s the trailer for “Kick-Ass 2”:
