As we know, rapper Ja Rule has been behind bars for the past two years for illegal gun possession. But many have wondered whether or not he and his long time collaborator Ashanti were still at odds after she was dropped from Murder Inc. back in 2009.

Well, wonder no more, because since Ja Rule’s incarceration, Ashanti says that she has kept in touch him throughout his bid.

“I have written letters. We’ve communicated…. we’ve written each other letters,” she told The Grio. “I’ve sent cards and things like that.”

Ashanti also believes that the time behind bars won’t hamper her old friend and former collaborator’s creativity at all. Not even a little bit.

“I think Ja Rule is super duper talented,” she added. “When I got into the studio with him… and just his melodies, his lyrics, and how he puts a record together and how he can make it catchy. So many people have… I don’t want to say copied… but Ja has a swag that a lot of people came in after him doing. So I definitely think that Ja has what it takes to make a hit record.”

With Ja Rule having approximately six months left in his sentence, should we expect another Ja Rule/Ashanti collaboration, maybe sometime near the end of the year, or at the top of next?

Every single they had together was a hit, so that just might not be a bad idea. What do you think?
