Miley Cyrus // Jay-Z

Miley Cyrus’ hit single “Party in the U.S.A.” includes the following lines:

This is all so crazy, everybody seems so famous / My tummy’s turnin’ and I’m feelin’ kinda homesick / Too much pressure and I’m nervous / That’s when the taxi man turns on the radio / And the Jay-Z song was on…

But this teen pop princess claims to have never heard a Jay-Z song. Why? Because she also claims to not listen to pop music … even though that particular song was in the Top 40 across the U.S. pop charts. So does that mean she doesn’t listen to her own music?

“I’ve never heard a Jay-Z song,” the 16-year-old said during a recent interview. “I don’t listen to pop music.”

Wait, so how did the bit about Jay-Z (which is said 3 times in the song) get in there?

“I don’t know, I didn’t write the song, so I have no idea,” she said of the tune. “Honestly, I picked that song because I needed something to go with my clothing line. I didn’t write it and … I didn’t expect it to be popular, originally. It was just something that I wanted to do, and I needed some songs and it turned out for the best.”

Miley went on to say that the tune, written songwriters by Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly and Jessica Cornish is “not even my style of music” but she is definitely thankful for its quick success and the position God has put her in.

“I’m really blessed for it to have done as well as it has. Totally blessed,” she said. “God has definitely put me in an amazing position with amazing people.”
