The picture on the far right is the result of a crazy old bat “with good intentions” who took it upon herself to restore a 200-year-old painting of Jesus “without asking permission,” and totally ruined it.
The image on the left is how the painting looked two years ago, and the one in the middle is how it looked back in July, when it was photographed for a catalog.
Cecilia Gimenez, the Spanish woman who “restored” the fresco on the walls of the church of Santuario de Misericordia, apparently noticed that things had “gotten out of hand,” and she didn’t have the skill required to actually do the job properly (uhh … ya think?). So she was left with no choice but to fess up to what she had done.
Professionals are now said to be assessing the damage to see whether or not the painting can be salvaged.
Watch Cecilia attempt to explain her side of the story below:
“Everybody who came into the church could see I was painting.”
