John Dye, who starred alongside Della Reese, Roma Downey and Valerie Bertinelli in the long-running TV series “Touched by an Angel,” was found dead Monday (Jan 10) in his San Francisco home.

A cause of death has yet to be determined, however the actor’s relatives say he had a heart attack.

John Dye was 47 years old.

“Dear, sweet John Dye, rest in peace,” co-star Valerie Bertinelli wrote Tuesday on Twitter.

John Dye played the angel of death on “Touched by an Angel,” a show where heavenly messengers helped people get through rough spots in life.

He was on the CBS show from its second season in 1995 until it ended in 2003. Dye also appeared in the “Touched” spin-off “Promised Land” and had regular roles in other shows like “Hotel Malibu,” “Jack’s Place,” and “Tour of Duty.”

A memorial service is planned for January 22nd at a church in Dye’s hometown of Amory, Mississippi.
