SEAN LEVERT AT THE 2008 NAACP IMAGE AWARDS THIS PAST FEBRUARY

According to WKYC in Ohio, R&B singer Sean Levert, who was the younger brother of the late Gerald Levert and a former member of R&B group Levert, was pronounced dead just before midnight Sunday at Lutheran Hospital. The Cuyahoga County Coroner’s office said Sean LeVert’s body was taken to the hospital from the Cuyahoga County Jail. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed sometime today.

Sean Levert, who was sent to prison for failing to pay child support, had only been in jail for less than one week. He owed $85,427.68 in back support for his three children – ages 11, 15 and 17.

While it is known that he suffered from an illness before being sent to prison, it is unknown whether or not the illness caused his untimely death. He was only 39 years old. His brother, who preceded him in death, was 40 years old at his time of death.

Our condolences go out to the Levert family at this time.
