Buju Banton is guilty!

The reggae artist, who won a Grammy Award last week at the 53rd annual ceremony, appeared in court on Tuesday (Feb 22) and was convicted of conspiring to set up a cocaine deal in 2008.

An undercover sting was conducted by the DEA where a confidential informant video- and audio-taped Banton testing cocaine in a warehouse in December of ’08, although he wasn’t present during the actual drug deal that took place two days later. That informant went on to make $50,000 as commission for his role in the deal.

After going into deliberation for 11 hours over two days on Banton’s fate, the jury returned their guilty verdict. Banton was found guilty of three of the four charges he faced and now faces 15-20 years in prison.

It is expected that Buju will make bond until his official sentencing, which has not been scheduled
