Rock star Bono and hip-hop great Wyclef Jean were honored for their charity work Wednesday night (Nov 18) at the RFK Center Ripple of Hope Awards dinner, held at the Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City.

Wyclef Jean, who also performed at the event, was given the Ripple of Hope Award for his ongoing contributions o the Yele Haiti organization: a non-profit with a mission to inspire change in the country of Haiti, Wyclef’s home country. U2 frontman Bono was given the award due to his work in raising awareness about health issues and poverty in Africa.

The rapper, who has starred in movies including Bones and Hood of Horror, professes his love for the hit drama in the lyrics of his new single Gangsta Luv, and now he’s hoping producers and casting agents can find him a part in the series, starring Anna Paquin and her real-life fiance Stephen Moyer. Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince Michael (12), Paris (11) and Prince Michael aka “Blanket” (7) were not inside the vehicle that was involved in an accident in Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon (Oct 21). Reports previously stated that the kids were on their way to a Karate class when the car they were riding in was rear-ended by a thirsty paparazzo.

But after further investigation, the LAPD are saying that the car that was hit was a security vehicle, and not the car the Jackson kids were in. The unidentified photographer who rear-ended the Jackson security car was charged after he reportedly fled the scene without exchanging insurance information. He was charged with a hit-and-run misdemeanor.

The damage done to the security vehicle was reported to be minor and the kids’ grandfather Joe Jackson told reporters that the kids and his wife Katherine, who was also in the vehicle, were okay.

In a move that surprised damn near everyone, Lil Kim and Cyndi Lauper performed “Time After Time” on stage together Saturday night (Jul 18) at the Mandela Day 46664 Celebration Concert … and Lil Kim sang! Albeit, Kim didn’t do very well with her vocals but we give her credit for being bold enough to do something like that in front of so many people. Will.i.am, Quincy Jones, Omarion, Akon, Wyclef Jean, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Pharrell Williams talk about their influence with Michael Jackson and his Best Selling-album to date Thriller.

And here we thought steroids were just for athletes! Some of music’s biggest names like Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Timbaland and Wyclef Jean came up in connection with an Albany, New York based steroid investigation, The Times Union of Albany reported. They even named playwright/director Tyler Perry!

Citing unidentified sources, the report alleged that the above-mentioned music stars, along with award-winning author and producer Tyler Perry, may have received or used performance-enhancing drugs. Grammy-winning singer Blige blasted the report when reached for comment by the New York Daily News. “Mary J. Blige has never taken any performance-enhancing illegal steroids,” the singer’s spokeswoman Karynne Tencer told the News. Ken Sunshine, a spokesman for Perry, declined to comment to the Associated Press.

Law-enforcement officials have said evidence does not indicate the celebrities broke the law. For now, at least, officials are focusing on the doctors, pharmacists and clinics providing the drugs. Albany District Attorney David Soares launched his investigation into steroid trafficking last year. Soares has declined to comment on or confirm the identities of the stars who came up in the probe. His multistate investigation has focused on Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, Fla. So far, 10 defendants have pleaded guilty and some professional athletes have been linked to the probe in news reports.

Records shared with the Times Union and information from several cooperating witnesses on Long Island indicate the celebrities received prescribed human growth hormone or steroids. In some cases, aliases were used for their delivery. Former Sen. George Mitchell released his report last month on performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. Hearings are set to begin this month in Congress on the Mitchell report.

Well … I’ll be damned! The outcome of this will be quite interesting.

Black Hollywood showed up and showed out at the first ever BET Honors, which were held in Washington D.C. Saturday night. The ladies glammed it up on the red carpet, and the fellas got their GQ on. Honorees included R&B star Alicia Keys and supermodel Tyra Banks, Time Warner board chairman Richard D. Parsons and Princeton professor Cornel West. “For me, I’m just a girl still from Harlem, and here I am,” Keys said. “It’s a tremendous feeling to do what you love and for people to love what you do. … People are honoring me for doing what my heart tells me to do, (and that is) so fulfilling.” Actor Blair Underwood presented Keys’ award, while her musical idol, Stevie Wonder, performed a special rendition of of “As” especially for her. John Legend, Wyclef Jean, Gladys Knight, Brian McKnight, Jill Scott and Raheem DeVaughn also performed. The show is set to air sometime in February. Check your local listings for more details.
