The Williams sisters obviously love tennis, but apparently they love them some football too! Venus and Serena Williams have purchased a stake in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. The duo joins the likes of Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Glori and Emilio Estefan in becoming limited ownership partners in the Miami team, making them the first female African-American to hold an ownership stake in an NFL franchise. The Dolphins’ owner and managing partner, Stephen Ross, made the announcement Tuesday (Aug 25).
“I am so excited to be part of such a renowned organization,” says Serena. “Having spent so much of my childhood in the area, being involved with a staple of Miami culture is a huge honor. We look forward to many championships and much success together with the Miami Dolphins.”
Agrees Venus, “I am honored to be a partner in the Miami Dolphins franchise and thankful to owner Stephen Ross for allowing Serena and I to be part of Miami Dolphins history.”

The 2008 Finals was a great event in itself, but the final long awaited match-up between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics was nail biting, to say the least, until the final buzzer. The past rivalry between these two team is legendary. For the 11th time, they battled head to head for the championship title. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce were known as the ‘Big Three’ all up against a one man stampede, Kobe Byrant. The Los Angeles Lakers showed their teamwork in the 2008 Finals, but the Celtics lead the series victoriously. Although the Boston Celtics took the 2008 Championship title, it was still very interesting watching every game they played against one another, making it the best moment in sports.

Did you know that because the Williams sisters are Jehova’s Witnesses, they are not allowed to involve themselves in political affairs, mainly voting? Serena was quoted as saying:
“I don’t really get involved in political affairs because of the way I was brought up, and, being a Jehovah’s Witness, but it’s exciting to see someone like Barack Obama have a chance to lead one of the world’s biggest nations. It’s good. It makes my heart smile.”
Hey, at least she still supports him! Click here for a little info on why Jehovah’s Witnesses do not vote.
