Tyrese and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas heat up the screen together in Tyrese’s new video for “Nothing On You,” a single from his new album “Open Invitation.”

“There’s only so many women out here that have this natural beauty thing going on. I think Chilli’s beauty and her innocence and energy is timeless,” Tyrese told Global Grind. “She has a very sweet and a very reserved energy about her that’s just really, really special. I’ve known her for years but, we’ve never done anything together.”

He continued, “I was just sitting down and it hit me. Chilli! I want to use her for my video, and I moved on it and she showed up, you know. She showed up in a major way.”

Congratulations are in order for R&B singer Tyrese, whose new album “Open Invitation” debuted in the top 10 of Billboard’s 200 album chart this week!

The album, his first in five years, is also the #1 R&B album on iTunes and the #2 R&B album in the country.

“For Tyrese to return five years since his last release with a #1 record at radio and a Billboard 200 top ten album is a testament,” said Jeff Robinson, founder of MBK Entertainment. “Along with stellar album reviews Open Invitation is truly inspiring everyone who believes that uncompromising great music can still rule the charts.”

Unbeknownst to many, “Open Invitation,” preceded by the impacting first single “Stay” (the video of which featured Tyrese’s “Baby Boy” co-star Taraji P. Henson), is Tyrese’s first independent album, which means he didn’t have the support of a major label backing him.

He just had himself, his team and his promotional tour that saw him appear on a variety of TV outlets, like the “Wendy Williams Show,” Spike TV’s “Spare Time,” Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” VH1′s “Morning Buzz” and “The Rachael Ray Show.”

Featuring guest appearances from R. Kelly, Ludacris and Rick Ross, “Open Invitation” puts an end to a 5-year gap between studio albums for Tyrese, who spent much of the time pursuing his interests in various fields of entertainment: film (“Transformers”), literature (his self-help book “How to Get Out of Your Own Way”) and even comic books (“Mayhem”).

The Washington Post writes, “Tyrese is a New York Times bestselling author, a blockbuster actor and, thanks to this latest album, once again an R&B force to be reckoned with.”

Snoop Dogg turns 40 years old today, and the rapper celebrated the momentous occasion with a party at The Rolling Stone Lounge this past Tuesday night (Oct 18) in Hollywood with his wife Shante and some of his Hip-Hop friends, including Dr. Dre, Warren G, Tyrese and Bootsy Collins, as well as Rihanna’s ex boyfriend Matt Kemp (of the L.A. Dodgers) and a couple of other athletes.

The legendary Chaka Khan was also in the building and sang “Happy Birthday” to the birthday boy.

As a collective, Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson will always be known as “Jody and Yvette from Baby Boy” … and if new reports are anything to go by, it looks like the pair are to re-unite for a second time in a new John Singleton movie!

Though details about the film (including a possible title or who else will be in it) have yet to be released, Tyrese recently revealed that it will most definitely NOT be a sequel to “Baby Boy,” which was released in 2001.

Tyrese tweeted:

“Official.. Me and my girl Taraji are doing another classic together soon.!! John Singleton will be directing us. And not it’s not BB2.”

Tyrese recently sat down with an interview with Ace Showbiz, where he spilled the beans about the upcoming John Singleton flick:

The first single “Stay” was made available for purchase in August, and was written based on a relationship he had years ago. “I was in a relationship with this girl and I wasn’t making her priority. I did what I had to do to get her love me and like me and get her in a relationship with me and I basically at the time, which was years ago, … started to focus more on my career,” he shared. “So things got extra bad and I was begging her to stay.”

The love story was visualized in a beautifully-shot music video which sees Tyrese reuniting with his “Baby Boy” co-star and longtime pal Taraji P. Henson. “I love her [and] she loves me. She’s a beautiful person, very humble, funny as hell. Even though it’s been ten years [since 'Baby Boy'] you can’t really put a timeline between magic,” he gushed. “I think she’s really special, beautiful and I was honored that she wanted to do my ‘Stay’ video.”

Talking about reunion with Taraji, Tyrese spilled further that he has been in talks with “Baby Boy” director John Singleton to team up with her again in a new movie. The rumor started swirling when “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” actress tweeted about her meeting with the two guys, and it was later confirmed by Tyrese himself. “John singleton is on a mission to get me and Taraji to do it again,” he stated.

Rap veteran Heavy D took it back to the old school days of Hip-Hop with his BET Hip-Hop Awards performance, which closed out the 6th annual show.

Dressed in all black, a svelte Heavy D did some smooth, choreographed dance moves as he performed a medley of his chart-topping hits, including “Nothin’ But Love,” “We Got Our Own Thing,” and “Somebody for Me,” making the audience feel like they were on a time machine that took them back to the early 90′s.

And in the middle of his set, Heavy D was joined by R&B crooner Tyrese, and the duo performed Heavy D’s 90′s club anthem “Now That We’ve Found Love.”

The 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards, hosted by comedian/actor Mike Epps, were held on October 1st in Atlanta, GA at the Civic Center, and aired on BET Tuesday night (Oct 11).

The 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards just went down over the weekend (Sat. Oct 1) in Atlanta, and the black carpet posted up outside the Civic Center was littered with rappers and other celebrities.

Hip-Hop figures like Big Sean, Rick Ross, Tyrese, Nelly, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Da Brat, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J and tons more all posed for pictures as they arrived at the show, hosted by comedian Mike Epps.

Tyrese got into it with a local radio station in Delaware — and was eventually KICKED OUT — after he made a statement about how he didn’t like how he saw a liquor store directly across the street from an elementary school on his way to the station.

It all happened at WJKS KISS 101.7 in Delaware — when Tyrese, who was invited on the show to promote his album, made a PASSIONATE statement about how liquor stores SHOULD NOT be allowed near schools … after seeing one on his way to the station.

During his rant, Tyrese told the DJ, “Get them cats out of here … selling alcohol right across from your kids school, homie — put the pressure on them homie … you know how to put pressure on dudes selling in your hood.”

But when the show went to commercial, Tyrese was asked to leave the building — and the owner of the radio station confirms to TMZ that it was because he felt Tyrese was “disrespecting” the Delaware community.

After the incident, Tyrese tweeted, “I just kicked out of a radio station frm a [program director] who had a problem w/ me speaking on liquor stores that are by elementary schools in Delaware.”

He later added, “If you don’t STAND for something.. You will damn near fall for Anything.”

Author is another title that sexy actor and R&B singer Tyrese Gibson can now add to his list of titles.

The “Transformers” actor has recently penned a self help booked titled “How To Get Out of Your Own Way,” where he draws on his own life experiences to help steer the reader into the right direction – and he thanks his mentor Will Smith for believing in him more than he believed in himself.

In a recent phone chat with our buddies over at PopEater.com, Tyrese explaned how Will helped shape and change his life. Check out the excerpts below:

Will Smith really changed your life?
One would easily assume that once you become an actor you start hanging out with other actors, especially those more prominent and successful and that would be the reason to hang out with them. But what ended up being revealed was he changed my views and perspectives on life and my surroundings and my characteristics. I was completely caught off guard. It’d be like if you showed up for a main course meal and you ended up getting desert and appetizers and all this other stuff.

Is he your mentor?
He is every bit my mentor and friend. He always makes time to talk about whatever I’m thinking about or what I can’t figure out on my own. I can’t really compare him to anybody else in my life. He believes in me more than I believe in myself. It created another level of belief in myself that wasn’t there before.

Can you share some of his bits of wisdom?
The first thing he dropped on me was you can often tell how far your life and career will go based on the five people you spend the most time with so I had to really sit back and really marinate on that. So I said, ‘So if I have a problem with my life I should have a problem with the people in my life.’ He was like, ‘Yes, exactly.’ So that’s when the mission began to better my surroundings and keep everybody around me sharp because it’s very easy to get lackadaisical and have people that work with you and for you to just go through the motions.

In this week’s episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” R&B singer Tyrese confesses that he was once “gonged” while performing on his high school stage.

“My music teacher would do these ‘gong’ [talent] shows, and basically, if you got up [onstage] to sing and you were horrible, then somebody would run up and hit the bell,” the star explains. “I remember I was in the middle of singing this Brian McKnight song, and somebody ran up and hit that sh– loud and it went gong!”

Brandy, who’s a good friend of Tyrese, jokes “I think Tyrese’s natural reaction was, ‘Are you serious?!’”

Ty’s reaction to the sound provoked much laughter from the audience. And even though the gong meant the soon-to-be singer was supposed to get off the stage, because of the support he received from the girls in the crowd (no surprises there!), he kept on going.

“I finally had a conversation with the girl who hit the gong. I was just like, ‘Yo, man, why did you do that?’ And she was like, ‘Don’t get mad at me! Everybody told me to hit the gong, so I ran up and did it!’ ” Tyrese recalls.

Tyrese was clearly not impressed with her answer.

“I remember I gave her a dirty look, like, ‘Don’t you ever hit the gong again, OK?’ And I walked off.

The R&B singer/actor was spotted over the weekend about to open a serious can of whoop a** on the paparazzi for snapping shots of his little sweet heart. We guess the photog who took the pics wasn’t too familiar with “Waist Deep” or “Baby Boy”. You don’t f**k with Tyrese! (LOL).

Stars took to the Kennedy Center in celebration of the 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington, DC on Sunday (Dec 5).

The event takes place to honor five individuals who have spent most of their lives inspiring and enriching the cultural vibrancy of the nation. This year, Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney (the Beatles) were among the five chosen ones. President Barack Obama gave a speech with the honorees present at the East wing of the White House before they all headed to the Kennedy Center to join celebrity guests.

Chris Rock and his wife, No Doubt, Tyrese and Jennifer Hudson were some of the many that walked the red carpet.  The event will be televised on CBS on December 28th.

Actor/singer Tyrese Gibson and his ex wife Norma Michell took their daughter 1-and-a-half year-old daughter Shayla out for some frozen yogurt in Hollywood early Wednesday (Mar 10).

Here’s the worldwide premiere of the most highly anticipated music video of the year (so far). Lady Gaga and Beyonce‘s “Telephone” video leaked to the Internet a few hours ahead of its big world premiere so here it is! Watch it while you can because there’s no telling how long this is gonna stay up.

The 9 minute short film/music video opens with Gaga in a prison yard swapping spit with some (chick who looks like a) guy. She hears her name on the intercom telling her she has a telephone call from Beyonce and that’s when the actual song begins (this is about 3 mins in… lol). Later in the clip, a mysterious person breaks Lady G out of prison. We later find out that person is Beyonce and she’s waiting outside in the “Pussy Wagon” (from Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” movies). And the story just goes on from there.

In the end, Beyonce and Lady Gaga end up killing everyone at a diner they stop at (where singer Tyrese and rock group Semi Precious Weapons make their cameos) and flee the city.

We are getting word that pop superstar Lady Gaga will be extending her critically acclaimed “Monster Ball” tour to meet high demand. Following her sold out dates in the UK, Australia and Japan, Gaga will return to Europe to perform shows, beginning May 7th in Sweden, followed by dates in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France before returning BACK to the UK (Lady Gaga sure does love the UK!)

As far us over here in North America are concerned, she’ll be touching down over here for a 30-city arena tour beginning in June. Those dates haven’t been released just yet, but continue reading to peep the new European tour dates…

The music video for “We Are the World: 25 for Haiti” debuted Friday night (Feb 12) during the opening ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

This version of the song, featuring vocals from Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Lil Wayne, Janet Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, T-Pain, Usher, Wyclef Jean and much more, is much more contemporary than the original but it fits today’s music era. The song’s original writer and singer Michael Jackson also appears in the song and video (his sister Janet sings the first chorus with footage of Mike thrown in). They also kept one of MJ’s original parts and show footage of him singing it (Nice!).

The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti.

Lady Gaga and Beyonce shot the music video for their big collaboration single “Telephone” last week in California and here are a few pictures straight from the set!

Bey and Gaga filmed acting, performance and dancing scenes inside a diner on the side of the road in the desert, then filmed scenes inside a truck named the “P*ssy Wagon,” which just so happens to be the same truck used by actress Uma Thurman in the two-part epic film “Kill Bill.” The vehicle is now owned by Quentin Tarantino (who wrote “Kill Bill”) and the writer/director was generous enough to loan it to Beyonce and Lady Gaga for the video shoot. Actor/model/singer Tyrese was also seen on the set during the diner scene. He confirmed via his Twitter page last week that he was the love interest in the clip.

According to New York Magazine, the video for “Telephone” is a continuation of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video and includes scenes of Beyonce rescuing Gaga from prison.

The concept for the video reportedly involves Gaga getting imprisoned and Beyoncé rescuing her. As for their costumes, which are what’s really important here, the divas are said to be wearing “destroyed denim pieces” by designers Franc Fernandez and Oscar Olima. Spring’s denim explosion has been tough to accept, and downright weird much of the time, but if anyone can do the opposite for the material of what Jessica Beil did for it on the cover of Vogue, it’s Gaga and her friend Beyoncé, who owes it to the world to explore just how skimpy cutoffs can get.

According to early reports, Beyoncé may not dance in the video. At first this seems like a crime against humanity, but it’s probably only fair. Lady Gaga respectfully put her masks and crazy body stockings aside to wear a plain white leotard in Beyoncé’s “Videophone” video. Gaga has said she told Beyoncé prior to shooting, “I don’t want to show up in some frickin’ hair bow and be fashion Gaga in your video … I want to do you.” Because fashion is where Gaga outshines Beyoncé … and pretty much everyone. Shaking it is where Beyoncé outshines Gaga … and pretty much everyone. (Review the scene in “Video Phone” where they dance side by side if you doubt us.) So perhaps she owes it to Gaga to let her hips lie just this once.

Feb 1) in Hollywood to record “We Are the World 25 Years for Haiti,” a remake of Michael Jackson‘s famous “We Are the World” song, which raised at least $30 million for African humanitarian programs 25 years ago.

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie came together and rounded up folks like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jennifer Hudson, Wyclef Jean, Jamie Foxx, Justin Bieber, LL Cool J, Usher, Keri Hilson, Brandy and a ton of other celebrities to lay down vocals and instrumentals for the charity single.

Is it just us or is hip-hop getting old?!

Rapper Fabolous turned 32 years old Wednesday (Nov 18) and everyone in New York City, including Rick Ross, Diddy, Amber Rose, Ryan Leslie, Adrienne Bailon and more, came out to party with him at the Hotel on Rivington that night.

Bossip says Fabo and Adrienne were extra close throughout the evening.

Adrienne Bailon appeared to be Fab’s right hand. Even with all of NY in the building, it appeared that the two were in arms reach of each other the whole night. Our spy didn’t see the two leave together but that’s normally what happens when you’re trying to keep things under wraps.

The paparazzi snapped some pics of actor/R&B singer Tyrese Gibson as he filmed a few scenes in Hollywod for a new show Tuesday morning (Sep 22).

He’s also currently working with Quincy Jones and his son QD3, along with Operation Hope, to launch an initiative called the “5 Million Kids National Education Campaign,” which aims to help get over 5 million students excited about education and getting rich the legal way.

“Operation HOPE believes the best way to break the high-school drop-out epidemic is to tie education to aspiration in life, showing young people how they can get rich, or simply how to do well in life, legally,” the Web site says. “That’s financial literacy, the language of money, that’s teaching them ‘silver rights’ and the rules of free enterprise and capitalism, and how to become entrepreneurs and self-employment projects too.”

The 5 Million Kids Campaign is set to kick off September 29th at a private event in South Central Los Angeles. Jones, his son QD3 and Tyrese will all be joined by hundreds of community leaders, educators, businessmen and fellow entertainment leaders and celebrities, including Ambassador Andrew Young, LAUSD School Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines and John Hope Bryant, Operation Hope’s Founder and CEO.

The couple had been married since November 2007 and in January of 2009, Tyrese filed for divorce in January 2009, citing irreconcilable differences following a mere 10 months of marriage.

Both Norma and Tyrese signed a prenuptial agreement, which stated that if the two were ever to divorce, Norma wouldn’t ever get a piece of Tyrese’s possessions. The only thing she would get is a lump sump of $50,000 for every year they were married, for up to 10 years. Only thing is, the couple would have to had made it to a year, but Tyrese filed for divorce 10 months after they said their “I Do’s.” So in other words, besides the mandatory $6,000/mo child support, she can’t get anything unless Tyrese gives it to her.

Here Jamie Foxx can be seen paying tribute to Michael Jackson (comedically, of course) as the host of the 2009 BET Awards, which aired live from Los Angeles Sunday night (Jun 28) on BET. Jamie Foxx is probably one of the few people who can make light of a sad situation and have everyone laughing and crying at the same time. The BET Awards was supposed to dedicate the entire show to Michael, per the press release sent out Friday, but failed to impress.

The show itself was pretty good, but they should have never mentioned dedicating the show to MIchael if they didn’t have the time to do it right. That said, we really hope they put together an entire special to honor the late King of Pop so they can at least try to save face.
